'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal

31st July, 2006. 12:07 pm. The Mantos Song

Finally, I know what it is!

Manchester’s Gay Village has a bar called Mantos. It’s possibly the most popular venue there in the Summer as it has big open windows, seating outside and a balcony. Beyond this, it is infamous for its 2for1 bar at all times except late Fri, and loud dance music blaring all the time.

Over the past few years, as I’ve been in or passed by Mantos, they have almost always played a certain song. So much so that I christened it ‘the Mantos song’. Whilst drunk, I invariably mention it (or point it out if they play it) and other people have concurred that the track is most definitely deserving of the title of ‘the Mantos song’. A lot of people even already called it the Mantos song themselves.

Everyone knows the Mantos song, yet no-one could tell me what it was called or who it was by. For what must be years now, what the Mantos song is called has eluded me.

Not any more! I was drunk recently with a relatively new friend. Someone who I haven’t actually blithered at about the Mantos song. So, as you do, I blithered about the Mantos song. And James, straight out, said “Oh, you mean Stupid Disco by Junior Jack?” I was flabbergasted.

So, yay, I am now the proud owner of said track downloaded from iTunes. Thank you, James!

I also looked it up on YouTube, and it was there in its video glory too. Strangely, something I associate so heavily with Manchester’s gay scene has one of the most hetro fantasy vids I’ve ever seen: scantily clad [bad] female wrestling. Funny, eh?

So, anyway, if you want to hear the Mantos song in all it’s glory (or indeed, if scantily clad (bad) female wrestling is your thing), here you go:
Junior Jack – Stupid Disco.

Have fun,
