'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal Deary dear - three months worth! You might want to go get yourself a cup of tea... WORK Work has been interesting as while I was... JOB HUNTING a job became available within the department: PA to the Head of School. I applied for it, and got it! I am now the PA to the Head of School within the School of Languages. I am very happy as it means I can stay working somewhere that I know and don't hate, but get a new challenge and more money. Yay! So over the last month, I've basically been doing both jobs which means I suck at both of them as there simply isn't enough time to do either of them well. However, my replacement in EFL admin starts soon, so I should be able to give you an idea of my new role next month. MONEY Isn't actually that bad right now. I've somehow managing to be a little more sensible over the last few months, and am no longer getting charges for going over my overdraft limits. It's amazing how much of a difference that makes! NINJA I have been very lazy. I really should drag my ass to classes more often, and believe it or not, i am actually starting to put on weight around the gut. It appears that my body has finally given up after years of abuse, and that I will have to actually bother with exercise to stop myself from getting one of those hideous pot bellies you get on slim guys when they eat too much cake. GAH! WRITING I have been very lazy. Have done some research into mags I could write for, but ultimately haven't typed a sodding word for months. I will have to try harder (and can I really write for Chat?). HEALTH Hay fever sucks. There is only one thing that sucks more than hay fever: the fact that antihistamines are a crock of shit. Over the years, I have spent years shelling out a lot of money for various antihistamines (from the potentially fatal heart attack enducing Triludan to the more recent Zirtek), and didn't get round to getting any this year. Lo and behold, I have exactly the same amount of hay fever shittiness. In other words, without the tablets, I get exactly the same amount of crap. Razzafrazza! BOOKS I’ve read The Dark Knight Returns and A Death In The Family: batman graphic novels. I enjoyed The Dark Knight Returns, but thought the other one was full of cliche, bordered on the racist, and the ridiculous coincidences in it were terrible. I have started to read The Da Vinci Code, but haven't got very far. Mainly been reading magazines recently... MUSICA After Lordi wiped the floor with the usual Europoppers in the Eurovision Song Contest, I bought their album, and it's thoroughly enjoyable in a tongue in cheek kind of way. Went to Download and saw GnR, Metallica and Lordi who I expected to be fantastic. They were: I am now proud to be able to say that I have seen an Axl Rose hissy fit live - yay! Standout good bands I'd not heard before were Lacuna Coil and Dragonforce: I shall be investing in some of their new stuff. Rob Zombie's new album is terribly disappointing. FILM So in three months, you'd think I'd have watched a lot of films, right? Prime Got dragged to a chick flick by Rob, and expected it to suck. Not only did it suck, it didn't even have a happy ending. Crapola. * King Kong The 70s version. Inferior to the 30s and 00s versions, but a perfectly watchable film if you ignore the lame plot justifications. *** King Kong Lives Utterly ridiculous sequal to the 70s version of Kong. Hilarious in its attempt to be serious, and the oversized scalpel to operate on the dying Kong is a treasure in itself. Pants. ** Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Thoroughly enjoyable film version of a book I adore. **** Be Cool Fun film, if a little silly. The Rock steals the show! *** Street Fighter Alpha An interesting film for a fan of the games, but ultimately not that good. The previous anime was vastly superior. ** Fantastic Four As is always the case with comic book adaptations, this was horribly rushed trying to fit 50 years into 2 hours, and suffered for it. However, there was some nice humour and good action. *** TELLY Screenselect are still sending me many programmes at once, but 'm getting through them at a rate of knots! Queer As Folk USA - Season 1 Great stuff! Controversial stuff, heavy storylines, good acting, lots of fun, and gay sex scenes! Could you ask for more in a telly series?! This bases its first few episodes on the British ones, and then goes off in another direction and is fantastic (better than the British version!). ***** Babylon 5 - Season 1 I am enjoying this series very much, but have been told that I have only scratched the surface by watching season 1. Well, I enjoyed it anyway and I love Londo! **** Quantum Leap - Season 1 Steeped in nostalgia, I was inevitably going to be disappointed. I adored this in my early teens, and coming back to it, it is still great telly but flawed. And sam Beckett don't do the ninja kick I remember him doing anywhere as near as often as I thought he did... *** Farscape - Season 2 This series continues it's slightly above average Sci-Finess. Good stuff for Sunday night ironing sessions. *** Star Wars - Clone Wars - Season 2 Superior to the previous season, this was a lot of fun for a Star Wars affecionado. **** Charmed - Season 3 This continues to be very watchable culty telly. I am worried that it'll suck without Prue though! **** RPG AND GAMING Ars Magica is still running. Oli has mainly DMed recently, but I've done a little bit here and there. I am still absolutely loving Ars. Amazingly, we have now been playing this chronicle for nearly a year! Looking back at all the characters when we started playing compared to now, it's fab to see how they've got more powerful and how they've developed. It's been over 10 years in game now! World of Warcraft is proving fun on the ally side: Glittergem is level 41 now and has her robochicken. Mages are great fun to play. Have flitted from both the servers I've played on, and have been enjoying WoW a lot. BLOGGING & T’INTERNET After a period on inactivity, I have resolved to blog every day now. So far I've lasted a week! I took a lot of satisfaction from the blog about the fax in the office! Oh how I hate that thing... I have discovered the joy of Youtube, and particularly funny vids you might like are: Harry The Hamster Brokeback By The Bell Dr Who Wasssaaaaap Moonsault off a Fat Guy Gay Boxer Gets Boxed Under'taker' breaks kayfabe - my personal favourite BLOGROLL Like me, the geeks on my blogroll are somewhat erratic (Ian being the notable exception), and those who haven't blooged for over 6 months are gone!
