'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal Another one of these must mean another month has gone... WORK I earned a nice little bit from the overtime in Careers – this will fund Rob and my trip to the delightful Download festival. I am considering doing more of the same over summer, but am likely to bail when the weather is nice and sunny and you can go out for drinks during the warm evenings and see the boys with their tops off… The International Evening was a huge success! We made a noticeable amount of money, and it was actually a fun night. Some of the acts were a bit diva and up their own arses, but there were no major problems and we trounced the previous years disorganised attempt. It took a lot out of me though – I was working 9 hours days because of it and that knackered me. Also, my subsequent workload has been rancid: I have seriously struggled to catch up after the International Evening and it’s been three weeks since that. However, it is our busy period for EFL, so it’s not like it was unexpected. JOB HUNTING Played at it again this month. I have applied for a couple of jobs and a promotion at Salford. If I stay at Salford another year, I’ll get an extra 4 days holiday entitlement – I find that a slight incentive to stay/ get promoted. MONEY UGH! LOVE LIFE Having whinged about not having a car last month, I now have a car. I am seeing more of Rob, and I am happy. NINJA I am still failing to get motivated for ninjaness, and I can’t really fathom why. I think that sometimes when you get out of the habit of something, you stay out of the habit. I am hoping that this is not the case with ninja… WRITING This is a new section. For those of you that don’t know, I am on a home study writing course. When I first started it, I was stunned how difficult I was finding it to write articles – you’d have thought that a blogger and internet RPer who is a regular writer would find it easy to start writing proper to get published. This is not the case – blogging and RPing are very different styles of writing to the types of articles that get published. Three assignments in though, I am now getting the hang a little better: my tutor recommended a revision and to send one of my articles to get published. Huzzah! HEALTH Is fine. Nothing to report here… BOOKS I’ve read The Stone Cold Truth, which is Stone Cold Steve Austen’s sort of autobiography. I couldn’t help thinking that it was actually ‘The Stone Cold Wrote What Vince McMahon Told Him To’, but it was an interesting read for a wrestling fan. MUSICA I have been loving the new Gary Numan album and an album nicked off my mate Chris by Children of Bodom. I have been extremely RAH… That’s actually a lie, because I bought Tubular Bells and the best of Nigel Kennedy ‘cos they were on 2 for a tenner. An eclectic month, methinks. FILM I find it difficult to believe, but it’s true: I’ve only watched one film in the whole blooming month! I have added ‘The Animatrix’ as well as it’s film related… The League of Gentleman Apocalypse Mildly funny and watchable outing, but ultimately a disappointment as it wasn’t a patch on the telly series. Worth watching for completion’s sake. ** The Animatrix An excellent series of inspired shorts set in the matrix universe – considerably better than the second and third live action films. **** TELLY Screenselect continue to send me many shows at once, so I am still part way through loads at the moment. Survivors - Series 3 The show changed in concept and design quite considerably for it’s final series. I found myself either really loving it, or finding myself frustrated that I was unable to suspend my disbelief for such lame storylines. The death of a main character really shocked me. *** Alias - Season 4 How can this show be so ridiculously far fetched, yet so fiendishly gripping? I love every minute of this show, and find myself annoyed with myself for it! It got even more ridiculous this season, and I still lapped it up. Can anyone say ‘evil end of season cliffhanger?!’. ***** RPG AND GAMING I’m still running our Ars Magica saga at the moment. I was expecting to run for maybe 2 or 3 weeks: it’s now been 6! My current plotline is everyone in the covenant (including the companions and grogs) having a rough year. The idea being that 1068 was a grim year that everyone came out of looking forward to a more positive future. I’ve got seriously back into World of Warcraft playing the alliance side with my mates from Dungeonworld. My main, Glittergem (Gnome Mage), is a level 23 mage, and I have two alts (Night Elf Hunter - Laurel; Dwarf Paladin - Caffrey) in the early teens. Pixie ran a special online D&D session where the party was split into separate private chat rooms. It was well cool, and I enjoyed it muchly. It’s just a shame that I have found myself being unreliable for Sunday evenings. BLOGGING & T’INTERNET I’ve done nothing but lazy memes this month, and found a grand total of sod all amusing stuff. Bad month on the t’internet front methinks. BLOGROLL Another geek added to the blogroll – Bazzzzzz has entered the blogiverse with a bang and I hope he keeps it up. Meanwhile, there will be cuts next month if people haven’t updated since January. Bad geeks! Blog more! Alley Katt Bazzzzzz Bowch Big Fat Man Experimental Jifflings fishmonger malarky Gribble The Munchkin Monkeys and Pirates Nathaniel Westbury Picture of Flowers Pickled Pixie Prince Gaz Shooting Parrots Vernon Vanderbilt Vyle BLATENT PLUGS Visit these sites – I am plugging my mates. Microsatellite - A friends’ band Wax Planet - Another friends’ band The V - A friend’s musical project GZW - A wrestling RPG run by a mate 5 THINGS THAT I CURRENTLY WOULD LIKE TO EXALT 1) Having a car! 2) A new lease of life in World of Warcraft playing alliance with me mates. 3)The joy that is Ars Magica providing an RPG system that actually makes sense (unlike D&D). 4) The New Gary Numan album being bloody great. 5) Tomorrow People Audios. 5 THINGS THAT CURRENTLY WOULD LIKE TO SMITE 1) Being skint only 5 days after payday. 2) Having to wait for a delivery of two other items because one is taking a while to find by Amazon. BAD policy – fuckers. 3) George W Bush just because. 4) The fact that I am now getting impatient waiting for the new series of Doctor Who. 5) Too many things; not enough time. ANYTHING ELSE INTERESTING? A friend had a delightful cheese and wine party at the start of the month. Also, Alex the Titian Temptress came to visit Manc and we had much hilarity involving Burnley, a three-legged cat, no video bingo, a cowboy themed gay bar, cowboy hats, and a fish tank full of booze (you had to be there). Me ma and pa came to visit as well which was nice – they took Rob and me to Frankie and Bennie’s. THE WHOLE TWO MONTHS IN A FEW WORDS Based around the International Evening, it’s been a hectic one. Have fun, M x Current mood: Current music: Pressure by Gary Numan. Meh - I forgot... What are your Top 5, all-time favorite pizza toppings? 1) Pepperoni (How could it not be?) 2) Mushrooms (My favourite not meat, cheese or chocolate food) 3) Tuna 4) Sweetcorn (Sweetcorn + Pizza = Good combo) 5) Oregano and Black Pepper (Unsung heroes of adding pizza taste to a pizza – trust me) Have fun, M x Current mood: Current music: Fold by Gary Numan. |
