'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal I can do these things on time, you know! WORK I failed in my New Years Resolution to keep my emails in check. I lasted just over a month and then it all went tits up. And I don’t care. The International Party is certainly keeping me on my toes! I had no idea that there was so much to do when organising an event! It’s great fun though, and I’m more motivated that I think I’ve ever been in a job! Maybe I should think of a career in events management? The overtime work I’m doing is becoming something of a grind. After the first 6 weeks, it becomes very dull as you end up ringing the same people over and over again… and they don't answer. I just keep thinking about the money, and the fact it’s going to pay for a holiday, so it’s worth it. JOB HUNTING I’m somewhat demotivated. I can’t find anything that I really, really want and the stuff I am applying for, I’m not getting interviews. I’ve not even had one interview yet. I can’t let the demotivation get the better of me though, because as much as I may be enjoying my job at the moment, I hate my pissy salary. And that’s more important, right? MONEY Still reeling from the mess I made in January, February was a difficult month financially and I found myself in the same predicament as I was last month. It’s pretty much par for the course: I really do hate my pissy salary. LOVE LIFE I personally think the lack of car and Rob’s ugly working hours is a real problem. I don’t see him as much I used to and as much as I want to, and that hurts. He seems to care less about the situation that I do, and that upsets me. Things aren’t bad in any way with the actual relationship, but I desperately miss him when the shitty circumstances we’re in force me to wait up to 5 days between seeing him. NINJA I don’t know why, but I’m just demotivated with the whole Ninja thing at the moment. There are so many other commitments in my life that seem more important right now. This was never the case before: I always managed to get to Ninja. One thing is that I’m particularly pissed off that as soon as I get anywhere near brown belt level, the ‘brown belts don’t pay for lessons’ boon has been unceremoniously ripped away from the club, and for no good reason! I also deeply resent and loathe the fact courses are on Saturdays. Couple this with big work schedule + overtime, and I’m just not going to classes. I am a bad ninja. HEALTH Apart from feeling generally unfit due to lack of exercise, I feel okay right now… BOOKS Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell has been demoted and has become my ‘bog book’ due to its ridiculous bigness. What little I’ve read, I’ve enjoyed. Perhaps a long train journey’ll get me back into it. I’ve finished the truly harrowing race relations book I was reading, and am intending to write a full blog about it. It was a good general overview, but I found myself horribly upset by it. MUSICA I have mainly been listening to Pandora over the last month, and the ‘current music’ thing at the bottom of blogs has reflected some of the cool new stuff I’ve discovered. I heart Pandora. FILM I love the film! King Kong This had amazing special effects, but thankfully didn’t rely upon them. It took a classic and added colour and depth. It could have been dire, but it was quite, quite lovely. Not perfect, but a great film… and the big monkey was adorable! **** Goodnight, And Good Luck I expected superb stuff. I got an interesting and thought provoking film that, whilst wonderfully acted and very worthy, I just didn’t love as much as I thought I might. *** King Kong – The Eighth Wonder Of The World The original black and white one: flawed, sexist, weakly plotted… But iconic and a lot of fun. *** King Kong Escapes Japanese cash in involving a Mecha-Kong. Plenty of silly Toho monster battles to amuse. *** Friday 13th – Part 4: The Final Chapter More gore and yet another plotless but fun killfest. *** Friday 13th – Part 5: A New Beginning An interesting film in the franchise with the character of Tommy being very interesting. Almost a whodunnit… just with a heavy portion of ketchup. *** Hellboy Surprisingly good sci-fi/ fantasy romp. *** Spy Kids Surprisingly good sci-fi/ kiddie romp. *** The Godfather – Part 2 Cajoled into it, I was somewhat apprehensive about a 3 ½ hour film about gangsters. However, it was a really beautiful piece of cinema that Rob was right about when he said ‘you have to see it’. **** TELLY Screenselect, in their infinite wisdom, have sent me the first discs of four different telly series over the last month. So unfortunately, I haven’t got much to review, despite watching lots of telly. Watch this space for Quantum Leap season 2, Charmed season 3, 6 Feet Under season 4, Desperate Housewives season 1, and Survivors series 3. Shameless - Series 2 For someone who lives in Manchester, this rings so true! Hilarious, provocative, yet strangely sensitive and sweet: this is great, great telly. **** Farscape - Season 1 A somewhat unoriginal concept, but particularly good special effects and characterisation with the odd sprinkling of original ideas made this a fun Sci-Fi series to watch. *** RPG AND GAMING I’m still absolutely loving Ars Magica and our saga. I’ve been running for the last couple of weeks and have particularly enjoyed it. I’m actually running a mini-saga for companions right now, which is proving a fun change. I think that our covenant are slowly progressing into Summer from Spring which is nice. I’ve not played that much World of Warcraft this month which has meant that when I have I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve dinged Santu’s fishing up to a mighty 300, and done a couple of big exclusive to 60s instance runs. I’ve also moved to a different server with Dungeonworld mates to play alliance. I have acute level 8 gnome mage girl with pink pigtails. Due to people finding it difficult to make different sessions, I’ve only played one of Pixie’s Sunday night D&D sessions, but had fun when I did play. BLOGGING & T’INTERNET I don’t think I adequately/ articulately expressed my outrage about the Danish cartoons and the ridiculous reaction to them, but I think it was important to blog about it as I felt very strongly. The memes are, well, just memes (even if Chooseday is a fantastic pun). The flower was pretty, but ultimately, it’s been a bit of a rubbish blog month. For anyone who hasn’t played The Maze, it’s a lot of fun, but other than that, I’ve not found much this month on t’internet. BLOGROLL Look at the geeks! Read their blogs… or throw stones at them! Alley Katt Bowch Big Fat Man Experimental Jifflings fishmonger malarky Gribble The Munchkin Monkeys and Pirates Nathaniel Westbury Picture of Flowers Pickled Pixie Prince Gaz Shooting Parrots Vernon Vanderbilt Vyle BLATENT PLUGS Cool stuff from my friends. Microsatellite - A friends’ band Wax Planet - Another friends’ band The V - A friend’s musical project GZW - A wrestling RPG run by a mate 5 THINGS THAT I CURRENTLY WOULD LIKE TO EXALT 1) David Tennant being utterly fabulous in the Dr Who Christmas special, and the prospect of seeing him in the new series very soon. 2) The joy that is Ars Magica providing an RPG system that actually makes sense (unlike D&D). 3) World of Warcraft. 4) Dr Who audios. 5) Pandora. 5 THINGS THAT CURRENTLY WOULD LIKE TO SMITE 1) Not having a car. 2) The stupid cartoon row threatening my freedom of speech. 3) George W Bush just because. 4) Junk texts. 5) Salford University bureaucracy. ANYTHING ELSE INTERESTING? The Dungeonworld pubmeet was as fun as ever: love seeing the guys, love playing board games, love getting hammered in Blackpool rock club, love dressing up as a girl for a daft play. Huzzah! Probably some more stuff, but I my mind appears to be blank… THE WHOLE TWO MONTHS IN A FEW WORDS 2 months into 2006 already?! Have fun, M x Current mood: Current music: Zeichen Der Venus by Eisbrecher. |
