'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal Having been out a few times since it was implemented, I have formulated an opinion... When it first came into fruition, I have to say I was pleased. I didn't necessarily think that it would have any effect of crime involving drunk people, but I did think it would be pleasant for people to not have to rush their pints and I pretty much expected that it'd end up that the extended hours would mostly mean legal lock ins for regulars. The first time I was in a pub after the new laws, I did indeed get a pleasant extra pint in a legal lock in. It was nice, cosy, and made me feel very welcome in the pub. This was good. However, the next few of times I was out, I lost track of all time and just carried on drinking because I was drunk and the bar was still open. I ended up not getting home 'til 5, absolutely steaming, and had a brutal and evil hangover in the morning. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten that I am British. British people queue and follow rules. They also drink a hell of a lot of booze, and have a social culture based around getting drunk. I personally am also terribly irresponsible. Give me a time when I have to finish boozing and I will finish at that time; give me the oppportunity to drink drink drink until silly o'clock, and by George I will drink drink drink until silly o'clock. I don't like hangovers, and since the new laws mine have been considerably worse. I am also a selfish person. Having been in favour of 24 hour drinking, I have now decided that I preferred it the old way. That way, I didn't need to have self-control: it was done for me. Have fun, M x Current mood: Current music: Hazel Eyes by The Darkness. |
