'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal

19th July, 2005. 1:22 pm. LIVEWRONG

In the mcphee context of the word, definitely; in the wristband context, I aspire…

I recently noticed that mcphee has a black band, and asked him what it was for. His response was LIVEWRONG. I liked the concept, and as regular readers will know, my on and off nickname is Wrong Mark, so I decided that I wanted one. So obviously, it was off to evilbay. Predictably, what I wanted was there (as is usually the case), and I won an auction for my very own LIVEWRONG wristband. This was the blurb:

We party... a little. We may eat red meat. We like extreme sports. We may paintball, snowboard, skateboard, mountain bike, BMX, or may rock climb. We stay out late now and then, get up early, work hard. We like to watch sports more than play them and we love our lifestyle.

We don’t care about fashion.

And we aren't going to apologise for it.

Does this mean we LIVEWRONG?

We are not ashamed of our lifestyle.

This bracelet is sure to be a conversation piece. A unique fashion statement.

All good stuff, and stuff that I either do, or aspire to have a go at. However, when it arrived, I noticed two things.

1) Something is very wrong when the P&P for an item that is plonked in a standard 1/3 A4 envelope with a first class stamp on it is £2. Bloody Ebay swindlers making their money on P&P!

2) On comparison to phee’s band, his has a glossy finish, and mine has a matt finish. Also, his is larger than mine. Sooooo… one of us has a counterfeit.

Seeing as no money goes to charity from this particular band (unlike the other one I currently wear), I’m not arsed from a morale standpoint. However, a counterfeit of something that is anti-fashion? A counterfeit of something that represents a lifestyle that doesn’t care about image and people’s perception of their ‘wrong’ lifestyle? There’s something amusingly ironic in that, don’t you think?

Have fun,
