'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal

4th July, 2005. 12:42 pm. The DDP List

I’m surprised I’ve not seen more of them…

The DPP list was a list of 'video nasties' that were banned during the ridiculous paranoid phase in the 80s whereby everything violent in the world could be easily blamed and scapegoated on violent films, and not the fact that the sad reality is that there are some horrible people out there. In total seventy four separate films appeared on the list at one time or another, and thirty nine films were successfully prosecuted under the Obscene Publications Act! This obscene censorship just over 20 years ago sickens me. However, this isn’t a rant about censorship and how repugnant I think it is, it’s actually supposed to be a light-hearted blog!

I have copied and pasted the list from Wilkipedia, and have bolded and reviewed out the ones that I have seen, and invite everyone else who reads this to do so too.

Absurd/The Anthropophagous Beast

Axe

The Beast In Heat

The Beyond

Bloodbath

Blood Feast
An amusingly cheap horror film with a horribly sinister bad guy cannibal. The gore is impressive and pretty gruesome… apparently, the director used real offal. Ew.
***

Blood Rites

Bloody Moon

The Bogeyman

The Burning

Cannibal Apocalypse

Cannibal Ferox
Like Cannibal Holocaust, but not as good.
***

Cannibal Holocaust
A truly stunning and darkly brutal film. Violent: yes; valid and a bloody good film: undoubtedly.
*****

Cannibal Man

Cannibal Terror

Contamination

Dead And Buried

Death Trap

Deep River Savages

Delirium

The Devil Hunter

Don't go on the House

Don't go In the Woods ... Alone

Don't go In the Park

Don't look in the Basement

Driller Killer
Possibly the worst film I’ve ever seen. Atrocious acting, beyond lame concept, and the drilling was both laughable and hardly gorey at all.
*

The Evil Dead
Wonderful stuff – Bruce Campbell is hilarious.
****

Evilspeak

Expose

Faces Of Death

Fight For Your Life

Flesh For Frankenstein

Forest Of Fear

Frozen Scream

The Funhouse

Gestapo's Last Orgy

The House By The Cemetery

House On The Edge Of The Park

Human Experiments

Inferno

Island of Death

I Miss You. Hugs and Kisses

I Spit On Your Grave
Truly disturbing scenes of rape and an shocking shot over a woman severing a man’s penis off can’t alter the fact that this was a lame film.
*

Killer Nun

The Last House on the Left
Limited, dated and still horribly mutilated by the censors. Shame really, because it was a pretty good horror film for its day.
***

Last Night Trains

Living Dead At Manchester Morgue
An enjoyable zombie movie that is well worth seeing, but I can’t really see why it was banned.
***

Love Camp 7

Madhouse

Mardi Gras Massacre

Night Of The Bloody Apes

Night Of The Demon

Nightmare Maker

Nightmares In A Damaged Brain

Possession

Pranks

Prisoner Of The Cannibal God

Revenge Of The Bogey Man

Shogun Assassin
Okay, I can see why this got banned. No plot, no characterisation, who cares? He has a katana and gets Ninja on the bad guys!
***

The Slayer

Snuff

SS Experiment Camp

Tenebrae

Terror Eyes

The Toolbox Murders

Unhinged

Visiting Hours

The Werewolf And The Yeti

The Witch Who Came From The Sea

Women Behind Bars

Xtro

Zombie Creeping Flesh

Zombie Flesh Eaters
An excellent zombie film that is pretty gruesome, it’s true, but still worth a look.
***

All the ones that are available in the UK are now on my screenselect list, and I fully expect Alex to reply saying that he’s seen them all!

How much do I want to see Killer Nun?!?!

Have fun,
