'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal

13th May, 2005. 12:50 pm. Overanalysis of...

I’m fussing what I want to use my blog to do/ be/ achieve: must be a day with the letter a in…

Okay, I’ve established that, despite the gimmick of monthly reviews, I don’t use my blog in a ‘today I did this, today I did that’ kind of way, because I personally think that type of blog is dull. I’ve also established that, despite the fact I sometimes respond to the more quirky things, this is the kind of blog that responds to current affairs and comments, because I’m just not bothered to well informed enough. I’ve established that, despite the fact I talk about being a Ninja quite often, my blog isn’t a ‘my life as x’ blog, because I don’t have a topic I want to exclusively do that with.

So… Um… What’s it for?!

I know I’ve contemplated the topic of blogs again and again here, but I’ve never actually come up with a satisfying answer about the blog phenomenon. I have however formulated the opinion that there isn’t a clear, precise, ‘correct’ answer to the blog and why they are blogged. The thing is, I like clarity in my life, and however much I love my blog, there is a lack of clarity to it. I find myself thinking ‘is that worth blogging about?’, ‘should I put that in the monthly review or do a separate one?’, &c.

My previous conclusion was that I do my blog for selfish, self-aggrandising, narcissistic indulgence. I don’t defend that that is partially why I do blog. However, I do write for my friends as well. I know who reads my blog, and I know what they might like to read. Beyond this, I also try to make blogs interesting for any random person who I don't know that decides to read my blog. It’s a balancing act.

All this longwinded blither is actually leading somewhere. Basically, I’ve had an idea. I overanalyse; I blog. I thought I might like to overanalyse on my blog. I was thinking that I could write overanalysis posts on various aspects of my life. I then thought that the perfect topics for these overanalysises would be the headings from my monthly reviews. I might do it; I might not… And if I do, will it be interesting or worth a read for anyone other than myself?

Have fun,

M x

PS: Can you tell I'm bored and uninspired?

Current mood: contemplative.
Current music: Quite alarmingly, I have the Sunset Beach theme in my head...
