'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal I’m disgusted! The Guardian has reported about a Blogger sacked for sounding off . I’m stunned! I’d expect this in censorship heavy America, but in Britain? This is a travesty, and a sad day for freedom of speech! The thing that makes it worse is that it’s not a small business or a sensitive company, it’s blood Waterstone’s: don’t Waterstone’s sell books that have much more controversial opinions/ statements of other companies? I see a heavy level of blatent hypocrisy, here. Of course, this is of concern to me, because this blog has somewhat derogative opinions of my place of work. At this point, I’d like to point out that any occurrence of derogatory writings against the University of Salford means that this blog was hacked. I am not Mark Adams. In fact, I am a badger called Bernard and I work for Sfgljsgf Ltd. Have fun, M x Current mood: Current music: Do Ya Do Ya by Samantha Fox (seriously - listen to it!). I feel very strongly about this! I believe that as a citizen of the United Kingdom, that I should have the right of freedom of speech. I also feel that this should apply to any medium, including that of the weblog. Having seen the treatment of a fellow ‘blogger’, I wish to protest and assert my right. First of all, I intend to boycott Waterstone’s, and encourage other people who feel strongly about this issue to do the same. This is a bloody shame as they are good for geeky books, but there you go. I will also be doing as much as I can to support the unfortunate Mr J Gordon of Edinburgh, who I believe to have been unfairly dismissed. I will be writing to Waterstone’s to express my opinion to them, and will read his weblog to see if there is anything else that I can do to support. I am also going to express my opinions about my place of work as I believe that I have a right to do so on this weblog. It is my opinion that: The bureaucracy at my place of work causes wasted staff hours and frustrates clients and potential clients. The network at my place of work is weak, and the updating of programmes is slow. The policies of personnel have dangerous and potentially expensive holes in their armour. The way staff are treated differently in different departments with regards to flexitime causes animosity and bitterness at my place of work. A large amount of money has recently been wasted on flamboyant and overambitious projects that will cost the organisation a lot of money. This money could have been better spent on improving current facilities. There are a number of underutilised and underappreciated members of staff who are dedicated, decent people at my place of work. Certain courses at my place of work are marketed so badly that the numbers suffer. The gentlemen’s lavatories in the building in which I work are a horror to use in the Winter due to no heating and single glazed, old and draughty windows. It is also my opinion and belief that I have done absolutely nothing wrong in posting this entry on my weblog. Have fun, M x Current mood: Current music: Systemaddict by Five Star. |
