Today is World Anti-McDonald’s day…
This is just my little contribution to World Anti-McDonald’s day.
In my opinion, McDonald’s is one of the worst things to come out of American capitalism.
FACT: They treat their workers like crap (and have in the past sacked workers for wanting to join a union).
FACT: Their food, including the new salads and stuff like that, is extremely unhealthy and fatty.
FACT: Their marketing is directly aimed at kids for the ‘mither factor’.
FACT: Every meat product they sell comes from battery style farming.
FACT: Their suppliers cut down rainforest to graze cattle.
FACT: They sued two pamphleteers who distributed a leaflet called What’s Wrong With McDonald’s? for libel, and have stolen ten years of those people’s lives.
OPINION (FACT?): The food they serve really doesn’t actually taste very nice!
I quit fast food over two years, and with only three exceptions during that time, I have stuck by that. None of those times was at a McDonald’s. I don’t miss fast food, and the times I’ve slipped have resulting it me furthering my resolve because the food was just simply foul. I find the whole industry sickening and repugnant. Nothing about the industry is good: it’s all about obscene profit and shitty food.
I’m not a militant veggie (I’m not a veggie!), and I’m not a do-gooder hippy. However, I do feel very strongly about the damage that McDonald’s et al do to the world. I do boycott McDonald’s for ethical reasons – it just helps that I also think the food tastes horrible. I was elated to discover that they are doing very badly at the moment after all the controversy.
I’m not going to go out and give out pamphlets today, but I decided that I did want to do something to show support. This blog is it: sorry if I’ve been preachy.
