'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal Oh yes, there is plenty more low for this blog to reach… Here are some more ‘delightful’ photos from my trip to Porthmadog with Andy and Tom. These ones being themed. Click here for the photos, or hit the read notes link below. We are so very unPC, and are 41, 25 and 24 going on 12… Have fun, M Current mood: Current music: Power To The Small Massive by Asian Dub Foundation. Here’s another one of these things… Have fun, M *** Leaving Presents They were SO fab! Normally you get wine glasses, or vouchers (or something non-descript, anyway) when you leave a workplace. Of course, when you’re Mark Adams and the place you’re leaving is the Careers Service, this simply aint the case… I got: 12 Chocolate bars A £10 Virgin voucher to spend on an obscure film Barbarella on DVD 'Friends ReUnited' 80s Disco double CD A Spiderman action figure (goodness! He-man never had kneecaps when I was a kid!) A pair of sexy Kelvin Kline (style) underpants ‘Boy Toy’ softcore porn fridge magnets A T-Shirt with ‘F**k Me!’ written on the front How well they knew me… *** Cows “I like the cows!” http://www.cowparade.com Manchester has been invaded by cows. 152 actual size fibreglass cows have been painted by local artists, and put around the city. I like the cows. In fact, I like the cows so much that, in true Dave Gorman fashion, I accepted a drunken bet to get a photo of me and/ or a friend in front of every cow. Did I mention that there are 152 cows? So far, I have done roughly 30 cows. Once I have accomplished my mission, I will post up piccies of me and cows on me blog. Incidentally, I’d probably have accepted the bet even if I’d been sober… *** Amusing Forwards It’s not very often I cut and paste ‘funny’ forwards onto this blog, because they’re generally a bit naff. These two, however, are wonderful exceptions… Cat Story Note: This was not done on purpose (by the pet owner) and the cat is fine and back to normal. "My sister-in law is from Oklahoma and has a slight accent. She has cats and when she lived in the south she would take them to the groomers and have what is called a Line Cut. To her a line cut is when all of the fur hanging down below the cat's tummy is taken off (because it gets matted or snarled). When she moved to Chicago with my brother, one of the cats fur got all tangled up during the move so she took it in for a line cut. She was quite surprised when she heard the price as it was twice as much as it was down south. She confirmed with the groomer that he understood what a line cut was and he said "yes, I know what a LION cut is." It seems her accent came out sounding like LION not LINE and this is how her cat was returned to her.(see PHOTOS). She cried for a week...but not as much as the cat. It was November in Chicago and the cat needed all the fur it had." Gas in car to go to groomers $4.50 Cat car carrier $32.99 Grooming fee $80.00 Getting the look from one seriously p*ssed off cat Priceless ! ![]() ![]() Lionel RichTea ![]() *** Mr. Mark Deals With Chinese Students So cute! One of the sweet things about my new job in EFL is dealing with Chinese students who are just so uber-polite. In China it is considered polite to address someone who is helping you with the prefix Mr or Miss (whatever your sex). I initially thought that it was confused students getting my family name and forename confused, but it’s not true. It’s just them being sweet. As such, more often than not, I am referred to as ‘Mr. Mark’. Another thing I love about my Chinese students is their names. Some of them have great Chinese names such as Ming, Pong, and TingTing. However, Chinese people tend to choose an English name for them to use abroad, and it’s their choice of English names that tickles me. These are names that they get to choose themselves, yet a lot of them are so fabulously comical. At the moment we have a Coco, a Fanny, and a Gertrude. We also have a Bruce Li and a Jackie Chan. I love my Chinese students… *** Current mood: Current music: There's No Other Way by Blur. |
