'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal

20th May, 2004. 12:22 pm. Insomnia

I want it!

I was talking to a graduate I work with recently, and he has a rare form of insomnia which means he only needs 2 hours sleep a night (and unlike some forms of insomnia, he's not tired because of it). The guy whinged about being bored and not finding anything to do. I had to bite my tongue and stay my hand as I wanted to verbally barrage him and slap him! Bored and nothing to do?! This is the 21st Century, not the Middle Ages! There is opportunity after opportunity after opportunity for anyone who is even mildly arsed to find an interest to get involved in. I would dearly, dearly love to only need 2 hours sleep a day! Imagine that! It would be wonderful, so very wonderful! That is 22 hours in a day to do stuff, as opposed to 16.

I got my calculator out, and got the following figures: 6 extra hours per day, 42 extra hours per week, 168 extra hours per month, and a whopping 2184 extra hours per year. If I only slept two hours a day, in my whole life so far, I'd have had a grand total of 54600 extra hours (okay, that includes my years as a yowling baby and little bastard toddler, but you get the idea).

I started to fantasise about what I'd be able to do with 22 hours in a day as opposed to 16. Just think what you could do with all the extra time: watch more film, read more, surf t'internet more, &c. Imagine the time you could spend on accumulating a wealth of knowledge through internet learning, distance learning, the OU. The mind boggles at what one could achieve if you only needed 2 hours sleep a night. Things I would definitely do: increase my screenselect allowance to the premium five and maybe join another similar service, read more novels, read more factual stuff, learn sign language, learn Spanish, learn French, do Yoga, do Pilates, roleplay more - probably with Americans for whom my 5am is their 9pm (or whatever), write short stories, try and write 'my novel', learn meditation/ meditate, learn acupuncture and Reiki and then practice it, invest in a 'cello and start relearning how to play it, and lots of other stuff. The possibilities for learning, self-improvement, and enjoyment are endless.

I am so very, very jealous of the guy...

Oh, I SO am...

We're buying big lettering to stick on our windows at work to market the fact we exist, and I expressed an interest in purchasing the letters B, U, and M for my window at home. How FUNNY would that be?! BUM in big letters on some person's window just because they are so very puerile! I am giggling uncontrollably as I write this. I said it as a joke, but now I am thinking it'd be hilarious to actually do!

I should be sectioned.

Have fun,

M

Current mood: silly.
