'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal If anyone can spot from which sketch of which telly programme I've bastardised the blog title from, I'll give them a banana (and maybe some geek kudos as well!)... Last night's 'tarting up' of my blog got me thinking about the blogging phenomenon (again). I was kinda badgered into starting my blog by other bloggers, and wasn't all that keen on the concept. However, after a few posts I was suddenly hooked and probably posting more than the badgerers were/ do. Why *do* I blog? I'm not famous, and I don't live a particularly interesting life. I'm not an awe inspiring or particularly funny writer, and I rarely research my opinions well enough to withstand a barrage from someone well researched on the opposite side of the fence. I've noticed other bloggers (particularly random people on blurty) winge about not getting very many replies to their posts. I won't fib here, getting a reply to a post within 24 hours of deciding to allow comments on this thing made me feel ded popular and cool, but I'm not *that* bothered about comments. It's nice to know people read the thing, but ultimately, I probably wouldn't care if no-one ever read this thing (that's not an excuse to stop though [grin]). To me, this is my diary: I do go back and read what I've written, and enjoy doing that. This is my diary. Basically, it's as simple as that. Previous diaries have been disasters. My first in my late teens was a hand written one, which was promptly read by my dad and I got bollocked for calling him a bastard in it. My second was an excel spreadsheet where I just wrote a paragraph a day detailing in brief what I'd done and how I felt. I didn't think to save it to floppy and when my PC's motherboard when splurge, I lost the lot. So I guess I see this as being a ralatively safe medium to keep a diary: it's private enough inasmuch as I only give the link out to people I like, and it's not gonna disappear if anything goes wrong with my PC. So there you have it: the definitive reason why Mark A blogs... Have fun, M Current mood: Current music: Candyman by Aqua. Cool and clever website, but also somewhat informative and thought provoking... The Matrix: The best film in the world for making geekiness look cool. The Meatrix: Clever spoof with politcal emphasis done in the form of an impressive flash movie. I sometimes struggle to accept all this OTT, pushy, 'buy this instead of cheap stuff or you're an evil bastard' crappo you get bombarded with. I feel pressurised by the whole vibe, and personally, when pressurised, I'll dig my heels in. You know the sort of thing I'm talking about: organic food, Fair Trade stuff, horror stories about where sports brands make their clothes, etc. I also have this problem whereby 'I'm a do-gooder' stuff is always double the price of 'Tesco are evil, but cheap' stuff. Check out the Meatrix: I was impressed. It at least made me think rather than irritate me, but I doubt it'll actually make me change the stuff I buy. http://www.themeatrix.com/ Have fun, M Current mood: Current music: No Shelter by Rage Against The Machine. |
