'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal How bad is that?! mcphee (http://www.monkeys-and-pirates.com/index.php) was kind enough to install a popup killer on my PC yesterday morning. It is not quite 24 hours later, and already the thing has blocked 57 popups in one day. Fifty seven! Fifty bloody seven. 57 popups is ridiculous! No wonder people install popup killers! I just wonder why companies still pay for popups when this overkill has resulted in pretty much every PC user installing a popup killer. Surely it is no longer effective marketing?! Have fun, M Current mood: A little less upset. Current music: Give It Away by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Is something I haven't done for at least 20 posts, so here I go again... Current music: Permanent Damage by Rachael Stamp. How in the blue hell did a pair of those things get onto the back seat of my car?! There are some things you can't explain in this life: why people buy drum and bass music, why a kebab tastes nice when you're drunk and awful when you're sober, why all men are bastards, &c, &c. However, there is one thing that I've just seen that if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it. Doris is unwell again. She needs to be jump started to work, and as such I've been going to work on the bus. My Dad has a mechanic friend who everyone in the family *has* to use (trust me, you just have to), and obviously I can't get the car to him without having to jump start it and drive it to Wolverhampton (despite the fact I live in Manchester). As such, Dad has just travelled up here to drive the car down himself. He arrived and we went to the car. He then bollocked me for all the mess that was in it (to be fair, it was pretty minging), and I quickly tidied it all up. On the back seat was a pair of knickers and a bra!!!!! How the bloody hell did they get there?! I have no clue whatsoever! There is no way that they should be there: no-one other myself and my dad drive the thing (and I sincerely hope that those skimpy things did not belong to my mother), and I don't do girls and I've never had sex in Doris anyway (Bless Doris: lovemobile, she aint). I am utterly perplexed: there is no explainable way as to how they got there. Dad saw them too... Gah! All those niggling suspicions he had will now be dismissed now he's seen those bloody things in the back of my car. He's gonna think that his virile hetrosexual son is the kinda stud who has sex in the back of a car. Bugger. Have fun, M Current mood: Perplexed. Current music: Devil's Trill by Vanessa Mae. Is really actually very, very good… http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/ It’s a fantastically easy site to use: not overly showy but pretty and functional. The site basically covers all the BBC shows that are regarded as ‘cult’. Cult, of course, means geeky. It is actually huge and has loads of cool stuff. On the Buffy part (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/buffy/), I have discovered that my Buffy Dream Date is Oz (Yay!). There is a boys and a girls (whatever your preference) test (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/buffy/quiz/dreamdate.shtml). As much as it’s considered a) very sad, and b) a bit of a gay thing, I’ve always been a bit of a fan of Doctor Who (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/). When I was in my mid to late teens, I was a very avid fan, and spent pretty much all the money I had on Doctor Who vids (what can I say? I’ve always been a geek). More recently, I have drifted away from it, as it’s not been on telly since the American Pilot that was very successful in the UK, but flopped in the US (Unlike most Whovians [I love that term], I actually really liked that American pilot too). However, the website really is fantastic! It has loads of stuff, but what I consider to be the best bit is two webcast stories, which are great. There’s an adaptation of Douglas Adams’s Shada with the 8th Doctor instead of the 4th (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/shada/index.shtml) and a brand new one with the 6th Doctor and the cybermen (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/realtime/). I’ve watched them both and they’re fab, but possibly more exciting is the fact that the new webcast that they’re launching at the end of this month features the NINTH Doctor, and confirms that Richard E Grant will be the ninth Doc in the new BBC telly series they’re launching next year (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/shalka/). Another little gem on the site is Ghosts of Albion (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/tamaraswift/index.shtml), which is written by Amber Benson (Tara from Buffy). Unlike everything else on the site, Ghosts of Albion has never actually been a BBC telly programme; it was created for the web. There’s a webcast (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/tamaraswift/dramatisation/index.shtml) and an audio play (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/tamaraswift/astray/index.shtml). The webcast is more of an introduction to the programme (and a little simplistic), whereas the audio play is a lot better. I really like Ghosts of Albion, and reckon it can only get better. Well worth a look, if you want something new. Just thought I’d share with you the place where I’ve been spending the majority of my online time recently… Have fun, M Current mood: Particularly Geeky. Current music: Doctor Who theme?. |
