'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal

28th July, 2003. 2:32 pm. Online D&D and the Sutton Park

phee's online D&D session really was very, very good last night. I really did enjoy it! :) Seven hours of geeky RP fun seemed like about 20 minutes. The usual suspects were there: phee (DM), Fluffy Dragon (Melissa), Pickled Pixie (Sir Adamar), and Prince Gaz (Reynor). Bowch popped in for a bit and played Hama too. I still haven't properly got the hang of mIRC (which gained me a virtual slap from Pixie ).

I wasn't happy with my character Harold the Annihilator (Halfling Sorcerer) after the first session: I felt that I didn't really give him much personality beyond 'friendly little chap'. However, I started to get into the character a bit more this time, and he's developed a hefty vindictive streak, disgraceful stubborness (almost to the point of self-riteousness) and a dangerous recklessness that can only be fun to play. I also had a jolly old time using his familiar: a tiny viper called Rah. Being the guy I am am, the fact I only have 6 hit points and balls of steel makes him an even cooler character ! I guess he's now 'friendly little chap... but don't piss him off... or hit him'.

Harold had a rough time of it though! He managed to get chased by a HUGE tiger, knock himself out by casting detect magic on something far too powerful, get knocked out by the same thing again when it was dropped by a pirate, sent a fireball thingy right into the heart of the battle at take out allies and baddies and injure friends ( It's so fun to play Chaotic - at any point you can just say: "Fuck it!" - Yay!). There was also so great in character interaction between Harold and Adamar, Rey and Melissa.

Cheers for a great evening phee!

I used to play a Play By Mail game called Quest, and that's how I met they guys I do online D&D with. (The website for the company that runs Quest is: http://www.kjcgames.com/ ) Despite the fact we don't play any more, we still meet up a couple of times a year to get drunk, go out, chat all day about geeky irrelevance, and generally overindulge ourselves at a hotel in Blackpool.

It was actually the Quest D&D chappies who encouraged me to start a blog: so you can blame them. Mentioning that I'd started one, I'm impressed that Bowch has already added a link to this blog on his site, and the others promised to do the same. Being the complete HTML (and all that other stuff) nincompoop*, I haven't the foggiest* how to return the favour, so I'll just post links to their blogs below. All are very much worth a read!

Fluff, Gaz and I stayed in the chat room for a bit, and discussed the tragedy that is Averil selling the Sutton Park Hotel (where we always used to have our meets). If any Dungeonworld people are reading this: she was the fantastic lady who did the great buffet and charged ridiculously cheap room prices at the hotel in Blackpool. This is a tragic, tragic loss! I have been to loads of meets there for Quest, Beyond and Dungeonworld, and even if phee manages to sort out a deal with the new lady, it just won't be the same without Averil. We're all SO gutted.

Hmmm... not wishing to end on a downer, I'll finish with something amusing: www.happytreefriends.com
Such a fantastically evil website: cutesy creature death is good!

Have fun,

M

* 'Nincompoop' and 'Foggiest': fantastic words... I must use them more often.

Current mood: Ambivolent.
Current music: I appear to have the Gummi Bears theme in my head....
