'My Corduroyed Life' - Mark A's Journal Today is Sunday. My day of not leaving the flat. I usually have a hangover, but I was a good boy last night and am actually up before 11... scary. I guess I should do a 'proper' entry as I've been mostly doing cut and paset jobs to try and make myself look clever and funny. mcphee is running the second session of his online version of D&D tonight which I am greatly looking forward to... even if it does mean I have to use that wierd ICQ thing that I don't really understand. It scares me. Everyone else says "Oh it's easy"... yeah, maybe for you, but I'm bollocks with PCs (a real failing for a guy who claims to be a geek, I know). They'll be telling me that HTML is easy next! Pah! mcphee is so much of a better DM than I am (altho I guess doing it online is very different to over the table like I do it): he actually knows the majority of the rules! Meanwhile I tend to make up half of it as I go along. I do intend to read the rules properly some time, but never seem to be able to get round to it. If you're interested, mcphee is a blogger too: http://www.monkeys-and-pirates.com/blogger.html He doesn't update it as often as I do, but he doesn't talk as much drivel as I do either... Woke up this morning, and had a message from my brother on my answerphone... he left it at 3 in the morning (he must have drunk), and sang a good minute's worth of "The Man Don't Give A Fuck" by the Super Furry Animals. I heart Super Furrys: they are playing in my flat now. When I say they are playing in my flat now, alas, I mean that their CD is playing in my flat now, not the actual band live... which is a shame... I have something worthwhile planned for today, believe it or not. I have a job interview next Wednesday, and need to do some research into the company and the kind of work the job involves. I have websites, books, and everything I need... All I have to do is not procrastinate (so writing a big entry to my blog is obviously a really great idea I was also planning on doing some Ninja practice in the garden today too, but when I opened the curtains this morning, it was a minging day. I realise it's not very Ninja to not practice because the garden is wet, but I don't care. Was actually quite looking forward to a bit of garden Ninja practice actually: I really enjoyed the last time I did it and actually felt awake and something resembling good all day, which is a novelty. I've only done it a few times, but when I do, I try to do decent warm up, some kickiness and punchiness, and practice with all my weaponry (wooden sword, wooden short sword, bamboo sword, 3ft staff, 6ft staff, and nunchaku [both wooden and foam]). I usually go for about an hour and a half session (probably closer to an hour though). If I'm being honest (there goes that phrase again - I can almost feel my mate Ben tense up), the show off in me also wants a repeat of what happened last time. Basically, I can do one arm cartwheels, and I have wooden swords. I had a brainwave whilst practicing Ninja the other day: "I wonder if I can do one armed cartwheels with a sword in my hand?". "Oh dear!" you might think. However I was most chuffed when I found that I could actually do it! So pleased was I that I did quite a lot of them. When I finally stopped, I looked over and saw three mesmirised children staring at the strange bloke doing flippy stuff with a wooden sword. Yay! I've got a fan group! I still haven't eaten all those caramel fingers, but I refuse to bin them - they cost me money. Something I disgracefully missed out of 101 things I hate was "Big Mouth Billy Bass." I hate him almost as much as Posh Spice. The cow. http://www2.b3ta.com/fish/ So obviously, when I saw that, I laughed a lot. Fucking fish. Everyone who's read this thing seemed to love 101 Things I Hate, and to my surprise no-one has said "How can you hate that?" about anything. I've thought about doing 101 More Things I Hate, nut that would probably just not be funny. I've also thought about doing 101 Things I Love, but I could probably only do about 12, and half of that would be mushy and unfunny. Might do it anyway if I get bored... Was reading a friend's blurty yesterday: http://www.blurty.com/users/downfall838 He had a rant about lying on the internet about who you are. I've never really understood why people would do that. I've never lied to anyone about who I am online: am I weird (don't answer that)? I guess my onlineness is a bit different to most inasmuch as I've met over 50% of the people I talk to online and consider them real life friends as well as online friends. I've also used the net for dating, and if you say "I'm 6ft 6, have a cock bigger than an elephant, and have my own multi-national investment firm" to someone, you can never meet them, so what's the point? Man, I wish I was 6ft 6, had a cock bigger than an elephant, and my own multi-national investment firm, but forgive me, that's a tangent. Okay, I have lied in the past ("Yes dad, I have done all my homework", "I'm bisexual", "Belle & Sebastian are great" [I was on the pull]) but would never say I was anything other that who I am online. Maybe all these strange people who say they're a 21 year old, well hung, handsome stud when really they're either 50 and fat or 12 and dick thin are so lonely that they need to pretend to be someone else. HELLO! TRY ONLINE ROLEPLAY! It's much more fun to pretend to be an elf than it is to pretend to be a stud! May well write some more later on if I'm still procrastinating... Have fun, M Current mood: Pretty chipper. Current music: "The Man Don't Give a Fuck" - Super Furry Animals. One of the labels I'm signed to on Project Rockstar is running a competition. You have to download three songs by a band called Phish and review them. Just did that... and they're really good! Thought I'd post the review I did here. M General Comments on Phish: I like them! The three songs I downloaded, I genuinely enjoyed listening to, and will be investigating the band some more. Nice and chilled fun stuff that I will probably use to impress friends and use as background music at parties. These are exactly the kind of band that I can see myself going to see at a festival 'cos they have a cool name, and then sit chillin' in a field saying "These're really good!" to my mate sat next to me. Gin & Juice: Kinda country music like I thought, which is always fun. A song about booze is definitely a good thing: I like booze. His voice sort of reminds me a bit (but not that much) of Michael Stipe (which certainly isn't a bad thing!). Nice bit o' banjo going on too!Probably my favourite song of the three I picked: a fun song. Bouncin' Round The Room: Not as good as the other two, but certainly worth a listen. Didn't seem to have the 'bounce' of the other two. The tempo didn't really seem to suit the song title! Heavy Things: Kinda indie, kinda jazzy, kinda funky with pleasant vocals (and good lyrics): pretty good combination if you ask me! I always like to see a band use piano during instrumental parts as well. Current mood: Current music: 'Gin and Juice' by Phish. |
