I made mashed potatoes for supper tonight. I've been craving Thanksgiving dinner, so I guess I'm just going to accomplish it one dish at a time;) And even though I've been away for most of the week, I'm glad it's almost the weekend. Today's workload was quite a bit to come back to. So was the amount of list discussion. I think I'll bury myself in zines for a while. The good/bad thing that happened while I was gone was that I won the newspaper drawing for sneak preview tickets to Around the Bend. Sadly, the movie was tonight and in Raleigh, so I didn't go. I'm sure it was a nice movie, but there's no way I'm driving to the N&O by 6:30PM when I don't get off work until 6PM and then wait around Raleigh for another hour to watch a movie I'm not even sure why I registered for tickets. I have Ray, that's enough for me. On the fandom side, my fantasy trip to the UK is in doubt because of this ongoing Jerry Springer lawsuit. Poison, baby, pure poison. http://entertainment.news-leader.com/today/1030-Springermu-214525.html Springer musical plays on despite lawsuit "Jerry Springer: The Opera," threatened with closure because of a libel action, will run at least until mid-December, producers said Friday. This week, producer Jon Thoday said the critically acclaimed musical starring David Soul might be forced to close because of the costs of a lawsuit against the Daily Mail newspaper, which falsely claimed in January that the show was losing money. The producers sued for a reported $730,000 in lost earnings, saying the Mail's story had hurt ticket sales. Thoday said the show's marketing budget was slashed to cover the costs of the case, leading to a slump in ticket sales that threatened the production's future. On Friday, Thoday's company, Avalon Promotions, said the show would stay open for now. He said producers would make a final decision after the court hearing on Dec. 13. A raucous musical take on the king of trash TV, "Jerry Springer" opened to rave reviews at the National Theatre in April 2003. The $13.9 million production is scheduled to play San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre next summer before arriving on Broadway in the fall. (If only David played the US run...but alas, little hope of that) |
