riding in a plane at the same level as the snowpeaks of this swiss alps was enough. but to then jump from a plane at that same level, a whole other experience, entirely.
what a place, a small, humble landing strip wedged in a valley between the alps, gorgeous brilliant morning sun, and a few specks of color floating down from the azure sky.
i wasn't even nervous as i sat there watching my comrades take their jumps.
i was in the last group of 3... roland, a native swiss with killer blue eyes and pecks to match, was my tandem buddy. he strapped me in and all that stuff they do and then we got in the plane, firmly crammed between the tandemers lap. our guys were hugging us, holding our hands, trying to comfort us as we ascended above the clouds. i saw there looking down at the rolling green valleys, the sailboats on the lake, the paragliders, the snow, and thought about everyone back home, how they were sleeping while i was about to make the biggest (literally) jump of my life in switzerland.
first went the guy. i was next. he told me to hang my legs out the door, we kinda leaned, and POOF! with no warning, i was suddenly in the most free state i've ever been. i wish i could remember better. fucking amazing.
after about 45 seconds of freefall, the chute went and we just floated and spun, i shot as many photos as i could.
it was expensive and daring, and i'm so glad i did it. i would do it again in a second if i could afford it.
i feel like my trip finally started, like i've really begun to experience the things i was hoping to.
do it, just do it. screw nike, just do it.
xoxo
