Moved... again. But that was in November 2005. Finally got SBC to admit that it was their modem and not our phone line or computer that was the reason we couldn't connect to the internet since we moved five months ago (but were still paying for it!). Then they wanted us to pay $100 for a new modem!
We don't have SBC Yahoo DSL anymore.
We've got WiFi! It is insanely fast (it's cable internet). |

Computer's internet connection froze, had virus, computer froze, paid $99, wiped harddrive, rebooted, am connected again. Computer works fine.
Peh. $99 just to be told to wipe the computer and start again? Can you say highway robbery? Fortunately, I had most of my writing and pictures saved on CD-ROM or I'd be really irritated.
Then I had to pay another $40 to take care of "52 critical errors that could cause your system to fail". I hate technology some days. |

Going into Serenity, I had forgotten the first lesson of Joss Whedon, the one I had learned well from watching Buffy for years -- that this man is not afraid to do the last thing that you expect, he is not afraid of angering fans or of losing a wonderful character in service to the story.
Having said that, I'll put the rest of this review cum musing under this ( fake cut. ) |

Mystic Theurge 40% Combativeness, 30% Sneakiness, 64% Intellect, 69% Spirituality |
Brilliant and spiritual! You are a Mystic Theurge! Score! You have a prestige class. A prestige class can only be taken after you’ve fulfilled certain requirements. This may mean that you’re an exceptionally talented person, but it probably doesn't. The Mystic Theurge is a combination of a cleric and a mage. They can cast both arcane and divine spells, and are good at both, making them pretty terrifying on the battlefield. They have more raw spellpower than just about any other class. You're both intelligent and faithful, but not violent or deceitful. I guess that makes you a pretty good person. |

The Restauranteur
Congratulations! You scored 67!
Good taste. Adventuresome. Simple. You are the Restauranteur. You know your way around the kitchen and are confident in building a menu, but you don't worry too much about it. You prefer to let the food speak for itself. You are not afraid to try new things and people often come to you for cooking advice. To build more skills, try to master some seasonal cuisines. Try a cookbook by Caprial & John Pence.

Had to go in again today because the pain was not going away and I had shooting pain going up my jaw and a swelling in the gums right below the tooth they worked on. No surprise here, it had developed an infection. The dentist looks in at the raw swollen area that is the center of the shooting pain, pokes at it, and asks "does it hurt here?"
AGH!!!
YES!!!
Then he taps on the tooth with it's temporary filling and asks "does it hurt when I do this?"
AGH!!!
YES!!!
Then he prescribes Penicillin and more Tylenol Codiene 3, urgh. I'm really hoping the Penicillin works, I haven't been prescribed Penicillin since I was a kid, so it should work pretty well, my body shouldn't have a tolerance for it. I've been fed so many antibiotics over the years for various allergy induced sinus infections that my body has natural immunities to many of them.
Ugh. I have to go into work tomorrow. At least I know that I should be on the road to recovery and I get my first crown on Saturday (if that hurts, I think I'll sue somebody.... possibly the public school systems for telling me that going to the dentist would be a good idea!).
Must keep repeating mantra from Kasey "no dentures, no dentures, no dentures..." |

I went to the dentist. It hurt. I have to go back. And my tooth still hurts! Not fair!
Actually, I was surprised that I had as little damage as I did to my poor toothies considering the general neglect I treated them with when I was younger. Three root canals (shudder), one yesterday that took two and a half hours(!!!), three crowns, and seven fillings is the total of the work I need done. Of that, insurance will cover fully 80%, leaving me to pay out a total of maybe $500.00. Not bad at all really.
My only real complaint at this point is that the dentist gave me Tylenol Codiene 3 for the pain and I'm immune to codiene, so it is pretty useless to me. Ow. I was in so much pain yesterday when the anesthetic wore off that I was crying. I couldn't find any position that was comfortable, couldn't rest, couldn't read, couldn't concentrate on anything, and I couldn't eat for about twenty-four hours. It was pure misery. I'm really not looking forward to the other two now.
Thanks for the encouragement though, Kasey! I know, it's either this or dentures and I like having my own teeth! |

I'm actually going to the dentist tomorrow.
Eek.
I've never actually been to the dentist (go ahead, I'll wait while everyone gasps in horror). You see, the thing is, military healthcare benefits for dependant children do not extend to dentalcare. Ergo, no go. But now I've got what is probably an abcessed tooth, at the very least a extremely painful cracked tooth, that is killing me! And since I have ridiculously good dental coverage with my job, it's just silly not to get it taken care of.
The thing is.... I'm a complete wimp. I REALLY do not want to go at all. Except when a shooting pain goes through the nerves of said tooth, then I'm willing to tie a string around it and yank!
I am so very not looking forward to this. |

Lawful-Good 78% Good, 30% Chaotic |
Plane of Existence: Mount Celestia, "The Seven Heavens". Description: Countless paladins and saints have ascended here. Notable Inhabitants: Angels and Devas.
Examples of Lawful-Goods (Ethically Lawful, Morally Good)
Superman The Tick ("Lawful Stupid") Abraham Lincoln Sherlock Holmes Phileas Fogg Captain Picard
A person with a lawful good attitude believes in the use of authority and rule of law to bring good to the greatest number of people. Her/His actions support the status quo and s/he uses systems and organizations to achieve good goals.
S/He will keep his/her word and value truth. S/He will avoid the use of poison and use violence only when authorized to do so or in self defense. S/He may or may not be disciplined, organized, emotionally restrained, caring, compassionate, and peaceful, but s/he believes that these are admirable qualities. Respects law and order and is willing to suffer limitations on individual freedom for the benefit of the group. Puts moral principles before material considerations. The lawful good person will be a very faithful member of a group, but if the laws of the group clash with the ethics dictated by his or her moral alignment, the lawful good person will probably leave that group and look for a group more closely aligned with his or her ethics. The lawful good person is an active advocate of his or her beliefs.
Lawful Good "Crusader"
A lawful good [person] upholds society and its laws, believing that these laws are created to work for the good and prosperity of all. He is both honest and benevolent. He will work within the established system to change it for the better, and strives to bring order to goodness that other good-aligned [people] might pool their resources to better the world. A lawful good [person] combines a commitment to oppose evil with discipline. Most lawful good [people] live by a strict code of honor, or by the rules of conduct set down by their deity. They will generally selflessly act by these codes even at the cost of their own life.
Lawful good combines honor and compassion for the innocent.
A knight/paladin who always follows the orders of his superiors is an example of a lawful good [person].
Other Alignments and Tendencies (Tendenices are what you would more often sway towards; esp. for Neutrals): 0-39% Good, 0-39% Chaotic: Lawful-Evil 0-39% Good, 40-60% Chaotic: Neutral-Evil 0-39% Good, 61-100% Chaotic: Chaotic-Evil 40-60% Good, 0-39% Chaotic: Lawful-Neutral 40-60% Good, 40-60% Chaotic: True Neutral 40-60% Good, 61-100% Chaotic: Chaotic-Neutral 61-100% Good, 40-60% Chaotic: Neutral-Good 61-100% Good, 61-100% Chaotic: Chaotic-Good |

...and what I'm reading now.
Like you care.
Currently reading Eldest by Christopher Paolini, the sequel to his debut novel Eragon, which was the last book I read. Finding myself growing impatient with the small amounts of time I have to devote to reading it. Constantly running over my allotted break times and lunch times at work because I'm not paying attention to the clock, but to the book. I can really see his ability maturing over the course of the two books. It took me forever to pick up Eragon because the first little bit is rather awkwardly written. Once I got past that and met Eragon himself, that's when I could see he knows his main character very well and the style smoothed out. I don't recall any other major awkward sections, if there were then the story had caught me up so much that by the time I reached them I wasn't paying attention to that sort of thing.
I've read a number of the authors I've seen cited as ones Christopher enjoys reading (Anne McCaffrey, David and Leigh Eddings, Raymond E. Feist, J.R.R. Tolkein, Phillip Pullman, etc.) and I can see their influence on the story. Nothing derivative, more like seeing the inspiration points for characters or events.
Finished Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince within forty-eight hours of purchasing it (at midnight on July 16th with all the other fanatics). Really, it only took me that long because it was my family's last two days visiting me before they flew back to the other coast and I wouldn't be seeing them again for another year. I think that's a good reason to put even a highly anticipated book to the side.... well, my sister thought it was a good reason anyway :). Could see The Death coming even if I tried to deny its inevitability, but did not predict the other half of that scenario at all! Shaln't spoil for anyone else, but that was quite shocking to me--like a punch in the gut. Didn't start crying until Remus lost it in the Hospital Wing though (guess that tells one character who it wasn't!).
Also, reading all the Bill Bryson I can get my hands on. Hilarious.
Have decided that I must actually finish reading Inkheart before Inkspell comes out.
Was in the middle of Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones when Eldest came out, I really have to finish that too. Saw Hayao Miyazaki's adaptation three or four times at the local Century movieplex and loved it. It was a good thing that I was the movie first, there are significant differences between the book and movie. Miyazaki kept the spirit though, he's magnificient at that, while adding his own inimitable stamp to the storyline. See current icon for the gorgeous Howl (English dub voice--Christian Bale). The dub was done quite well as far as I can tell, will know more once the DVD comes out and I can see the original Japanes translation subtitle track. Wonderful casting all around, Disney's been doing a good job on these, in my opinion.
Must quit now, have to meet the grandparents for lunch! |

Modern, Cool Nerd 73 % Nerd, 52% Geek, 39% Dork |
For The Record: A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions. You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd.
Nerds didn't use to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one up there, winning the million bucks)!

(66% dark, 26% spontaneous, 10% vulgar) |
your humor style: CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK
You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.
I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer.
Your sense of humor takes the most thought to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

Isis Indeed, you are 70% erudite, 66% sensual, 45% martial, and 45% saturnine. |
This Egyptian supreme Goddess is certainly the most influential deity on subsequent cultures. She was the ideal figure of womanhood, usually compared with the Greek Goddess Demeter or her Roman version, Ceres.
Isis was one element of a Holy Trinity, the remaining two figures being her brother and husband Osiris and their heroic son Horus. She was the Goddess of Magic for her brilliance, as well as the Goddess of Love because of her tenacious devotion.
She is often shown with wings, curving to caress coffins and sarcophagi of many a king. In certain papyri she is shown with her falcon wing headdress, covering her ears. One of her sacred symbols is the sistrum, a musical instrument that was believed to ward off evil spirits. Isis' sistrum was carved bearing the image of a cat and was representative of the Moon.
Isis was the High Priestess and an omnipotent magician as well as the only being ever to discover the secret name of Ra. She invariably carries the ankh, the symbol for eternal life. Her name is, by the rules of numerology, adding up to the number “2” and she just so happens to be depicted on the tarot card “Key 2 – The High Priestess”.
