Norman Yesterday I pulled into Norman Okla. sometime close to 6 pm. I was really tired from hitch hiking all day and just wanted to find a place to get something to eat then find a spot to crash out for the night. I guess I had walked about 3 blocks when this black SUV pulled up next to me and the passenger a woman handed me 6 dollars. she said that her and her husband had seem me get outta the car on the interstate. So they decided to backtrack and try to find me so that they could buy me dinner. This really blew my mind. I never suspected anyone to do something like that but here they were just giving me a few bucks. What awesome people!! Well naturally I thanked them then ran across the street to taco bell and got some grub. From there I went to the dollar store and got some batteries for my walkman radio then I walked back over to I-35 and climbed under the bridge unrolled my gear and went smooth to sleep.
This morning I decided to walk across town to the local Salvation Army to see if I could get a change of clothes and maybe some shoes and some hygene also only when I got there I was told that they wernt going to be helping anyone till August. August? It's only March!! WTF??? Oh and the lady there told me that they dont help people out with clothes. She said that they only sell clothes they dont give them out. So I asked her what if someone was homeless and just got into town and just needed one change of clothes so he could have something clean to wear? and wouldnt you know it she said thats their problem not ours. Now how cold is that? I didnt see any reason to be around there any longer so I burned off. I got a few blocks down the road and saw this Catholic church so I walked over there and asked this old lady who worked there what I had to do to get a change of clothes and she said just walk right in here and get them. She gave me this brown grocery bag and told me t ofill it with what ever I needed but I didnt. I only got one change of clothes and a pair of sneakers. While I was there I made sure to tell them about my little conversation with the salvation army and all 3 old ladies that were in the place told me that they always hear bad things about them.
Doesnt surprize me.
The S.A. lady had made me feel really bad but once I left the Catholic church I was feeling alot better both about myself cuz I would be able to get into something clean and about humanity cuz they gave to help me without judging me. Now I've got a clean change of clothes on and a good pair of sneakers that have replaced my old worn out steel toe boots and I sure do feel like a new person. It's amaising what a change of clothes can do for you.
So now I'm at Oklahoma University playing online Texas hold 'em on the puter for $100.00 I hope I win.
