Research Proposal Heres a copy of my topic proposal: The topic I chose for my research project is the differences in how race and class effects how a person accesses and uses technology in modern day America. I know the basic fact that minorities and “worse off” people in America don’t have as good and as instant of access to technological resources and the internet as others do. I know that schools in areas that are predominately minorities or predominately poor people typically don’t have the money to have up to date computer labs and other resources such as overhead projectors and LCD players. I will do research into the amount of money that schools in “rich” school districts put aside for technology compared to schools in poorer districts. I will also do comparisons of schools in areas such as East Los Angeles (an ethnically diverse area) to schools in areas that are less diverse such as Salt Lake City, Utah. I will also do primary research by talking to people via the internet. I will use weblogs and e-mail to contact people who work in the technology field helping the poor and minorities get access to computer and other technological resources. I think the primary research will widen my perspective and allow me to make my own conclusions on the data I collect. A big problem with gathering this type of data is that the people who I will e-mail to may choose not to respond or they may respond in a slow manner. This may also be a difficult topic to find secondary information on, but I am willing to do what it takes to find all the information that is necessary to get the full picture. |

Blogging around the net I used the search engine http://www.daypop.com/ to find some interesting weblogs. A interesting science/techie news blog that I found is http://slashdot.org/ . This site is a great example of a blog because it has links to every subject that the bloggers refer to. The audience is obviously people interested in the newest developments in science. This site is updated with new blogs constantly and all the blogs are appealing in both content and links. Some of the concepts are confusing unless you already know some of the topic matter so that is something to think about. Another site that I found is http://radio.weblogs.com/0126975/ this site is an interesting one because it is very random. It deals with the odd subject of defaced currancy. Which consequently is funny as hell. This site doesnt have as many links because it doesnt refer to that many outside sources. The audience is probably bored teens and maybe bored adults as well because the site really doesnt serve a practical purpose. This site is also updated pretty regularly which is a strong point for any blog. Both of these sites and others that I have seen are very different from writing as I am used to it. The only style that it resembles is styles that are typically used on the internet such as for e-mail and instant messaging. The science blog especially is a prime example of why blogs are so useful and how they can connect many people with similar interests. Current Mood: calmCurrent Music: Xzibit |

my blog decision Well up until sometime last week I didnt have the slightest idea of what a blog was or why they even existed. Now that Ive done some reading and experiementation with blogs I found it to be similar to a message board. I am familiar with the format of message boards, and the way that people can respond to what you post and I throughly enjoy that form of communication. Anywho when I was looking into the different blog sites that I could sign up for I noticed that some were quite serious and others were laid back and informal. Since I am more of an informal writer and I dont like to write serious documents I chose Blurty.com. I also like to read informal writing where the writer doesnt write to impress me but rather to get a point across or to share intesting information. I also like the way that Blurty is set up with a calendar to easily access different entries. I have yet to figure out how to add links so everyone will know the greatest sites on the web, im sure its not hard but I cant figure this kind of stuff out to fast. My mommy says im special. If someone has some EXTRAORDINARY blogs that I should take a look at or knows of a great blog provider I should check out drop me a line. I am new to this online community thinggy but I want to learn more about it. |
