New Year...New Leaf... [09 Feb 2007|05:02pm]
So i'm thinking of turning over this leaf.
Y'know...now that i'm MARRIED and all, things need a bit of sprucing up.
I haven't been blogging as much, but realize that people are still tuning in (or at least Chris Jones is!).
It's possibly because i'm not excited by my set up any more. Maybe the walls need a new coat of paint!
So look forward to some changes soon...and hopefully more writing.
We've all got to stay creative somehow!

cheers.

American Turkey Eating Festival [28 Nov 2006|12:56am]
Just back from my romantic escapade in Minneapolis...
It was lots of fun...I'm still uploading all my shots, but so far all the take off photos and gushy couple shots have been posted. Actually, there are more gushy couple shots...I guess there will always will be more of those.

Americans are a lot like Canadians. They like their turkey as much as we do. They like the outdoors. They like different kinds of food. They're actually quite nice (i've met snottier Torontonians to tell you the truth). They have a good sense of humor and they have good microbrew beer.

The main differences. They like big things. We spend about the same amount of money on stuff, but I think we spend in different sectors. They have pool tables in their homes. They drive cars (as opposed to the bike mania that happens in Toronto). We joke about politics but there's definately a difference in how we joke. I actually think that Americans are ok with joking about their politics to other Americans...they don't seem so keen about the rest of the world laughing at them though. I know I wouldn't be either. I had a great time and I look forward to the next time I get to touch down in the Twin Cities.

I can Feel the Stitches in My mouth... [16 Nov 2006|11:47am]
...but those blasted wisdoms are finally out.
No longer do I need to worry about my teeth shifting due to those little buggers.

I'm a little swollen, but not much.
I'm eating solids already and getting crap caught in the holes in my mouth.
Salt water rinses and penecilin are my closest friends right now.

My dad....the Hemp Hoodlum [09 Nov 2006|02:00pm]
Here's my dad sporting his very chique new Hemp Hoodlum coat.
We actually prefer to call him 'Hemp Daddy' now.
We had a bit of fun Hip-Hoppin him up...he still sort of looks like Santa Clause though, doesn't he?
I keep telling him that he could roll in some big bucks down at the Eaton Center come Christmas time.

Check out all the details when you click on the photo.

Cheers.

The Exciting World of Tania and Rob [09 Nov 2006|11:49am]
So Rob broke his hand the other day.
I told my mom it was just a bike accident, but eventually all the little details came out.
It was a bike accident...the kind of bike accident that involves two people riding on the same bike.
Yes...Tania and Rob were doubling and, well, it was a windy day and they were going down a hill...
boom.
Broken Hand.

These are the things that make life interesting...

Death Cabbin' It [09 Nov 2006|11:44am]
Ben Gibbard

Tania and Rob enjoyed a formidable time at the Death Cab concert the other night.
She also took some fabu-fotos so check them out...

Things have really been lazy around my neck of the woods lately.
I woke up at 11am today for no good reason at all.
I think it's time to invest in an alarm clock.
One shapped like a rooster that has a cock-a-doodle ring tone.

Blue Steel and Magnum

Matt has tread his quota of steps on Canadian soil and has been evicted back to his motherland.
His next rendez-vous with our people won't be until New Years.
However, I will be making a mad dash across the border late in November.

We had fun.
Thanks to everyone that had fun with us.

Drink Responsibly [26 Oct 2006|02:44pm]
Andrew, the picture of professionalism

So the Massey Bar Staff had our Flare/Speed training a couple weeks ago.
It was definately a bonding experience.

What I learned:
That it doesn't matter what bar i'm working in, i'm going to break something.
That you can actually suffer joint injuries related to pouring too many drinks (I call mine alco-elbow).
That Mark and Nancy are still the best bartenders in the world.
That I still don't know how to make a Margarita.

Ok.
Enjoy the fruit of my camera.

Teacher Teacher [22 Oct 2006|10:31pm]
Tania has started bringing home piles of papers to mark from her class.
In an attempt to lessen her load, Matt, Rob and myself have been acting as her supporting staff and helping with the corrections.

The grade 6 kids had to write mini-essays about themselves, their families, funny stories and favourite things.
Here are some exerpts that brought smiles to all of our faces. Marking 6th graders is better than a comedy club.

"When I grow up I am going to be a Computer Engineer, I am already one now I want to get paid for it because I love computers. I am going to be all grown up. I will get a really small car and a normal house and life happily ever after."

"I fell asleep with a bagel."

"I will be a heart surgeon. I will drive an ambulance. I will cure all diseases."

"My mom told me that when I was small I used to make fun of sheep..."

"My mom also said that when I was younger I used to make fun of hens..."

"My role models are my mom and dad...they care about me and even feed me."

"I love playing the piano, it makes me think I could do anything, even if it doesn't make sense."

"If I could I would make some rules. There would be no wars. Everyone would be respectful and be clean. Everyone would have to be rich. But if they don't work or follow the rules then they can't be rich."

"My role model is Coco Channel."

"I would give money and clothing to the poor in person, because I heard that only 5% of what you donate goes to the poor and I find that very cheap."

"I want to get a computer job where you make this much $5000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 a day."

t'is the season [15 Oct 2006|11:42am]
It's time to get back to blogging.

Tania and I are turning over a new leaf.
We are moving out of our humble abode to (drum roll) FOREST HILL!
Can you imagine?
Dear God, i'm going to be shopping at Loblaw and drinking Low Fat Grande Late's before you know it.

But in all honesty, it's a beautiful place, right on Bathurst...north of St. Claire.
My calf muscles are aching just thinking about the bike ride up there, but it is super big, clean and quiet...all those things are hard to come by in our apartment block right now.
I'm sure my drug-dealing neighbors are going to miss us.
All the nights i spent banging on their doors to turn down their music and stop beating their girlfriends will be sorely missed.

It's not 100% official yet, we just have to drop of the cheque.
I'll post some photos when it's a done deal.

Anyone want to help us move on the 28th or 29th of this month??

Apartment Hunting 101 [08 Oct 2006|12:07am]
Tania and I are once again on the hunt for the perfect apartment.
The last time we hunted, we found the perfectly 'ghetto' apartment.

If any of you have yet to experience what it's like to live in a slum, you should come out and celebrate our departure. You just might get the opportunity to hear my neigbhors having a drunken brawl, or we could listen to music coming from the next apartment....

but in all seriousness, our neighbors have always looked out for us, and i'm eternally grateful that none of them ever stole my bike or broke into my aparment.
They're still good people.

Anyways, we're looking for a 2 bedroom with slightly higher rent then we are paying now.
We're climbing the ladder folks.
I've noticed on our apartment journey that there is a specific landlord-lingo that one must learn and master before setting out:

cozy or quaint = SMALL
'minutes' away from anything = anywhere from a 5 minute walk to a 10 minute drive
lower level=always means basement...

i'm slowly learning...if i pick up more, i'll let you know.
it's a difficult language to grasp, but once you've got it, it saves you a lot of time.

When speaking about how boring it is to be white and Canadian...it's all about the mixed background..."because it's the only way to be 2006".

Thank you Matt, for sending me the most AMAZING geography quiz ever.
I now officially can place all the countries in the Middle East and Africa.
Just ask me where Burkina Faso is...I DARE YOU!!!

I'm still not able to lable all the countries in ALL the continents yet.
Stupid Oceana and Carribean are all islands that look the same.

anyways.
I thought i'd share the wealth with everyone. Check it out.
It's make you feel really dumb when you start, but play it all day at work and I guaruntee that you too will be able to point out the Comoros Islands.
