Increase Traffic: The Right Kind When you start out trying to
increase traffic to your website, you find out what the best keywords are for conversions. Some of us when first starting out speculate what will be the right keywords for our site, but that really isn't the most effective way to go about an effective advertising campaign. You could get first page on Google for the "perfect" keyword for your niche, and find out that it may not have very many visitors at all because people were thinking of something entirely different than what your site is offering. One of the easy traps to fall into is that people may be looking for information concerning the subject matter, and they don't have spending on their mind.
So, while your
goal is clearly to increase traffic, you should increase traffic by choosing some very precise keywords that will produce clicks and cash. One of the ways to do this is to check in on your competitors. Dig up what keywords the major players in your niche are going after. You can use SEOSpyglass or Keyword Spy. Your competitors have blazed a trail ahead of you; find out what they are ranking highest for, and go after those keywords like a madman. If the
only goal you have is to increase traffic, you may be misguided. Don't forget that if you get 10 hits a day, but those are very quality visitors and the bounce rate is very low and the time spent on your site is very high, you are probably going to be doing well. While you do want to increase traffic, you want to increase the right kind of traffic, not individuals that aren’t looking to buy what you are selling.
Another easy method is to use the free Google Adwords Keyword Tool. But find alternatives of a main keyword, a long tail keyword that may not have as much competition for it, though is a "money" keyword. If you can rank high for 'buy ______' or '______ for sale', and they don't have a ton of competition, then definitely try to increase traffic by focusing your one-way links on those. It can be much easier to rank for a long tail than for a very short keyword phrase, and it is more effective sometimes because it is more descriptive for what a buyer is really looking for. Think in terms of what visitors would type in to land on your description.
One more way to increase traffic the right way is to pay close attention to the Related Searches at the bottom of a search page. This is a filter showing what people are seeking. Pick some of these into the above-mentioned Adword Tool and research to see if they get some decent traffic. These can be overlooked keyword phrases, but real great ones!
Finally, exchange links with some other website owners. I did this by telling a few that I recommended their sites elsewhere by placing their link on some other sites. I then pointed out to them where those links were. I also placed their link on my own site. They were happy to reciprocate. Think of unique ways to increase traffic, but the right kind of traffic, and you'll be in business for the long run!
