you know, I'm actually quite glad that someone is (anonymously) trolling photography.
It's not me*, although there's been a few posts where they've said exactly what I thought.
My policy is to ignore posts with millions of crappy out-of-focus 'myspace' style pics and save comments for photos that I actually like. Not been many of those recently though :(

stupid kids and their stupid drama...

oh wow, a public entry! [08 Jan 2005|12:05am]
some general things I have noticed whilst digging through my friends list lately:

1) people posting pictures in the various photography comms on my list:
Why do they insist on posting such huge images? I got so fed up with my page scrolling sideways forever that I stuck an overflow:auto; in the css so a scrollbar appears in the box instead of the whole page.
But seriously, large pictures = slow loading, scrolling, and when you only see a quarter of the picture, it's a bit harder to work out what it is, and whether it's any good or not. ehh. Thumbnail link to bigger pic, fine. lj-cutted, fine. Scrolling friends list, not fine.

2) idiots who have thousands of rules for their own comms which 'lyk, u r not aloud 2 brk, lyk, evar!!11!', but fail to consider that the community they are posting in has it's own rules. yes folks, I've been lurking in community_ads again, leaving fairly dull comments. Too many of 'em to think up decent snarkyness :(

However, the humans on my list (yes, that does include you) are far superior to these fools, and don't clog my page with crap. Yay! :)

html really isn't that difficult.... is it? [02 May 2004|10:05pm]
note to self... getting pissy at idiots who can't write proper html is not a productive way to spend a sunday evening. Oh wait.

It has been brought to my attention that this site will not work in Opera. If you use Opera, please stop. Use MSIE or CrazyBrowser instead.

It doesn't work in Mozilla either. 'Helpful' me leaves a message saying so, and also saying that I won't change my browser just to view one site. Because I am that stubborn. Its the principle of it really.

"Not my problem. I'm not going to bend over backwards to fix a problem that doesn't exist."

Er, clearly the problem does exist, as you acknowledged by writing the warning. Fool.

End result - that site just lost another visitor. Not that they care, because the problem doesn't exist, right? Good thing its just some boring blog site and not anything corporate.

hah this can be public I think. [27 Apr 2004|07:27pm]
Dear Blurty user(s),

Yes, there are problems with some parts of Blurty at the moment. That is why your journal is in read only mode, under maintenance, you're not getting emails and you can't log in. You are not the only one affected - even the news journal is down, which is annoying because there is no way of letting users know what is going on. The site admins are aware of the problem, and will get it sorted as soon as they can.
However, filling the support boards with requests demanding that your journal be fixed right now is not going to help anyone. Neither is getting pissy because the answer you receive doesn't actually tell you anything. We don't really care if you think the site sucks and you're going to move to x other site. Blurty doesn't need users with that kind of attitude.
There is nothing that support volunteers can do right now to help - we don't know any more than you do. We can't tell you when everything will be fixed, nor can we speed up the repairs. As such, we do not appreciate getting IMs/emails/comments regarding the problems. Most people would see that as an invasion of their privacy.
There are other things you can do whilst your journal is down. If you feel the need to post, write it up in your text editor of choice and save it so you can post it later. You can even backdate stuff if you want.

Regards,

Your friendly Support Volunteer

I'm getting fed up of giving the same answer to questions when I know it doesn't actually help that much. Only the admin know how long it will take to fix the site, and they have far more important things to do than reply to hundreds of support requests about it.

[edited to add that news is alive, and lurking at ~news. But not news.bml. Which means I've just re-written the answer to one support request 3 times. gah!]

New layout!

No tables - it's all done with divs and css.

Stupid thing is meant to be in the middle of the screen, but as usual internet explorer is being crap about that. bleh.
Anyway, its not quite finished yet, but there you go. I may also make the friends view etc look the same a bit later

Comments welcome, and as this is a public post I should add that asking inane questions about how I did any of it will result in some serious snarkyness. Piss off and ask in support...

Dear paypal user, We would like to inform you that we are upgrading our server to install a better protection software. So please click here and fill in the registration form again to renew your account. Paypal Administration.

note to stupid spammers: paypal is actually written PayPal. I notice these things, and if you want to really fool people you should to. But then you are stupid.
Also, I insist on using Mozilla mail, so hovering over that link and seeing www.paypal.com||||||||||||||||@123.45.67.890 doesn't at all make me think that it could possibly be a slightly dodgy link. Oh no not at all.

Wow I am so great, and you ain't getting my bank account details. Not today, not ever. Now please fuck off and leave my email address alone.

Today's amusing festive link:

Ugly Christmas Lights

There's a house near me that really deserves to feature on this site. They've got lights everywhere, and 4 or 5 huge inflatable things in the garden. It's disgusting. Not too mention really tacky

found in the rules of some random community

1.) No swearing simply because we will get kicked off of blurty. Anyone caught swearing will be asked to change their post. If they do not listen they will be kicked out. If you insist on using swears, please word it like this: f**k or G*d. (Please know that the maintainer doesn't care if you swear, but this this simply because of blurty's rules.)

Oh fuck! I broke the sacred Blurty anti-swearing rule! (so sacred I didn't know it existed, and I've actually read the TOS).
Maybe I'll report myself to abuse for using naughty words. Or maybe not.

Happy birthday to my journal :) [11 Nov 2003|11:35pm]
It turned 1 year old yesterday. And I forgot all about it until now (and only remembered cos specialaupps posted about his..) poor thing.

Today is the 11th November. That means there are still 6 weeks or so till Christmas. Far too early to get the tree up, you'd think?

Not around here. Particularly on the council estate the bus goes through on its way to uni. There are at least two houses with trees up and decorated, and theyve also covered every inch of greenery in their front gardens with lights and plastic crap.

Why? Maybe its just me and the fact that I really don't like Christmas, but surely the decorations should wait until at least December?
The decorations have been up in the city centre for a few weeks now, but at least they haven't been switched on yet.

Things like this really annoy me. People are such fools.
