I'm feeling so many feelings at once, i'm afraid i'm going into emotional numbness. Pretty soon, if i'm not careful, i won't feel anything at all. It's taking all my efforts to not think too much about everything. It's exhausting. I've been reading Shel Silverstein. It has helped with everything. I wish i had my entire collection of Shel books from my parent's house, because for the moment I only have j's copy of A Light in the Attic. But it helps. Everytime i read his poems, i think about them in a different way. Here's the three that have been helping the most right now: MAGIC CARPET You have a magic carpet That will wize you through the air, To Spain or Maine or Africa If you just tell it where. So will you let it take you Where you've never been before, Or will you buy some drapes to match And use it On your Floor? FROZEN DREAM I'll take the dream I had last night And put it in my freezer, So someday long and far away When I'm a grey old geezer, I'll take it out and thaw it out, This lovely dream I've frozen, And boil it up and sit me down And dip my old cold toes in. THE BRIDGE This bridge will only take you halfway there To those mysterious lands you long to see: Through gypsy camps and swirling Arab fairs And moonlit woods where unicorns run free. So come and walk awhile with me and share The twisting trails and wonderous worlds I've known. But this bridge will only take you halfway there-- The last few steps you'll have to take alone. |
