As long as you continue to blame others for your choices and mistakes, you'll be playing the role of the victim- a role in which you are likely to feel powerless over your own life. The first steps toward empowering yourself are to take full responsibility for your actions and to learn to forgive your parents for the mistakes that they made, or that you believe that they have made. Keep in mind that they are only human and may be playing out patterns passed down from their own mothers and fathers or clinging to societal expectations.
You are capable of replacing negative family cycles with positive ones by making a conscious effort to do so. As an adult, or even still a child, you have the power to select which lessons and values from your upbringing to embrace and which to get rid of. You can make decisions that are good for you, regardless of your past or the situations at the present time. Just quit blaming your parents for your choices.
