23 August 2004. Lost but never forgotten. James Christopher Burnett decribed as "A young man killed by a freak wave while holding hands with his girlfriend when he was swept to his death" -
9th August 2004 @ 3:30pm- James Burnett a young and much loved man was swept off a rock in foxes cove (cornwall) held tightly by his girlfriend who can only be described as a hero. At approxamatly 3:30pm James and his girlfriend were walking with the girlfriends younger brother to the beauty spot in cornwall just off Treyarnon Bay.
After climbing down the steep sides of foxes cove James and his girlfriend Lou stood and watched the waves crashing against the rock on which the three stood, The young brother who decided to take off his shoes so they would not get wet turned from where he had laid them just off the rock to see James and Lou being hit by a large wave. James was knocked unconcious but still hand in hand with Lou she desperatly tried pulling agaisnt the waves to save him. She unfortunatly lost her grip and he was taken by the strong current.
The younger brother seeing this ran to get his father, The father who also put himself in alot of danger to save James unfortunaly had no luck.
The size of the waves was due to the storm which hit america earlier in august "Hurricane Alexander."
Searches began for james soon after his dissaperance, Lou was rescued from the rock which she had fortunatly hung onto. When light shoon over the water in cornwall people were searching air teams, boats and coastgaurds. There was no sign of James for a full week and then was later found dead on 18th august 2004 washed up on constantine bay, not far from where he was taken by the waves.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal...Love leaves a memory no one can steal.
