She wasn't sure of what she felt.
She never truly was.
But she knew it was there.
It haunted her.
It was in her mind, in her body, and in the very pit of her stomach.
It was there.
That feeling.
No matter how hard she tried to be rid of it,
It came back, and it pounded her with full force.
The clashing of thunder and flares of lighting from her bedroom window
Did nothing to soothe her, but in turn intensified her desperation.
The storm that brewed inside her was mirrored
By the slash of rain pelting the glass of the windows.
That feeling.
As if someone ripped an innocent child from a caring mother
As if someone walked in on their spouse in the midst of adultery
As if someone was told there hopes, dreams and strongest aspirations were killed because of one knee injury.
The storm of emotion that rules inside of us all,
That takes over and consumes us in whole.
It's always that feeling that comes back, when we've shut it out,
When we laid it to rest,
When we deleted all aspects of it from our lives.
That feeling.
Rules over us, always |

okay so one guy stole my heart. he stole it 3 years ago. today, he has only a corner designated to him. i used to call him, i used to think of him everyday all day. i still think of him, i still look at his myspace. i still look at his photos and remember every little detail of the first time we met. from the very first hug, to the very first kiss...but i've learned. i've learned that sometimes you have to let go. i tried replacing the emotions i had for him with a stranger. i lied to him. i told him i loved him. i gave myself to him, and one night i realized i couldn't do it anymore. i was lying to him and to myself. i was thinking to myself maybe, just maybe if i say i love him, if i act like i love him, then maybe one day i can learn to love him. but it never happened. so when the new year came i told myself it couldn't continue. i broke up with him. i hurt him. he hasa good heart, but there was nothing else left for me to do. i let him go before i hurt him more. and he came back. the guy who stole my heart 3 years ago came back. it was as if nothing ever happened. and it continued that way. no matter how much he continued with his i'll love you forevers, i couldn't ever forget the night he admitted to me that he cheated on me. that night i felt as if i had died. it happened. i've gotten better. i've realized no matter how much time has passed he will never change. he's going to call at least 4 different girls within the day. he's gonna say I love you in 4 different ways. so i decided why should i be the one to always call him? its not right and its not fair. so i stopped. i've stopped calling him, i stopped text messaging him. in the passed 2 weeks, the most he's done on his own is send me a comment on myspace. so i responded with a comment for him. but i refuse to call him. i feel good about myself for that. i'm making progress. i know i am. in the pass 2 weeks i finished my college application, and i payed for my college application fee, it's been sent. i have to say i am tremendously excited at the thought of going to college, i'm sure once i start i'll hate it, but for now i'm good. so yea back to Felix. he's an asshole as most guys are. and i'm too good for him. i always have been and always will be. i'm just glad i've finally realized it. so if he calls i'll tlak, but if he doesn't it's nothing new. i'll be just fine. on a happier note i went shopping today. i bought my friend Naftalie a litle dress for her new baby girl. she sent me a picture of her and she's beautiful! i'm very happy for her. i wish her and her little girl (Jayla Imani Moore), the best always. so yea. i believe i'm done. |

i haven't written in what feels like.....forever. i live in texas. throughout my junior and senior year i debated on my moving to texas or not, and as always i assumed that i would decide to move, but wouldn't for lack of motivation, but i did it. i can honestly say i'm proud of myself. i can't regret any of the events that took place throughout my senior year, they happened. and becasue of them happening i have learned so much of life. i'm 18 years old. i live in a 3 bedroom apartment with my 2 sisters. i pay my own cell phone bill, i pay for my gas, i pay for the cable bill, and i pay for whatever other knick knacks we may need. i am accomplished. i have 2 jobs, that i kickass in. i have a boyfriend of 3 months going on 4 on the 15th, that is loyal, swet, caring, and genuienly kind, yea he's not the most attractive guy on earth, but he's my guy and he's good to me. i know who my friends are, and am so geatful for them. i never understood the meaning of family, until i left home. i cried thanksgiving day, and have come to realize that my family is one of the most important things to me. just like i said i would move out, i have the same determination to attend college. i will start in the spring semster, now although i have a clue of what i want to do, i'm still going to go in as an undecided major, just to make sure i don't waste money on classes i won't need if i decided to change majors. i have good friends here, they're are not my best firends, but they are fun to hang out with. i am an independent girl, and am leaving myself room to become an independent woman. |

Junior class members are on a rush to gain the title of SENIORS! As the summer quickly approaches, juniors are fighting to loose weight, clear acne, and try and look their best for senior pictures, homecoming, grand night, prom, and everything associated with senior year. Already on a rush to become seniors, the class of 2006 juniors was the firstjunior class to have a junior breakfast and picnic. The breakfast was held on November 19th, in the cafeteria, decorated with balloons and “06” cutouts. The juniors were also the first to have a junior picnic, water guns, food, and DJ included, it was held on April 27th at Camp Owaissa Bauer. Junior, Jocelyn Caceras said, “The junior picnic was awesome! The best part was running around soaking each other and listening to the music!” Some juniors say they’re already prepared to catch the infectious disease of, Seniorities. Junior, Adriel Celestrine said, “I’m prepared to start skipping everyday!” Included with the fun times senior year has in store are the vigorous essays for college admissions, getting your SAT scores as high as possible, and trying to |

What type of life is being lead through a vegetative state, where the only thing keeping you alive is a feeding tube? None. Terry Schiavo’s death occurred through the removal of a feeding tube, which was the key to her living. 15 years on and off a feeding tube, in a vegetative state, is simply put a stage of suffering. With no ability to walk, run, do the things you once loved to do, your life is being lived to keep the people placed about you content with your presence. Living your life to the fullest is completed by making mistakes, learning from them, saying things which would have probably been best if you never said them at all, and basically living for your happiness. Without the abilities to do those things, your purpose for living is categorized as simply living to have the title of an existing person. In a conversation held between Terry and her husband Michael Schiavo, it is reported that Terry informed her husband of her never wanting to be on a life source. Yes, Michael Schiavo has been known to have a separate family of his own without terry, but why would a man spend every second he had with his wife in her last moments of life? He could have divorced her after her accident, but he chose to live his life with her, and support her, the only reasons as to why he hadn’t removed the tube earlier was because of Terry’s family. On the day of your marriage your family is willingly, giving you away to your husband, which is then responsible for you, in an accident if you are married the first person the authority tries to call on would be the spouse, for the spouse is the main person your connected to. |

Awareness Bracelets Staff writer: Mariana Garcia
The awareness bracelets launched into action when Texan cyclist Lance Armstrong set up a cancer foundation after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, and began selling yellow wristbands (colored to match Lance Armstrong's cycling jersey) for a dollar each, one year ago. Armstrong hoped the Livestrong® bracelets would raise money for his foundation, the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), which provides the practical information and tools people living with cancer need to Livestrong®. The Livestrong® band was originally pitched at men and athletes, to show it was not just the frail or women who suffered from cancer. However, once celebrities got the yellow bracelet bug they became widely popular in United States, and on the other side of the Atlantic. The bracelet became especially popular after it was featured on an episode of Oprah in February 2005. According to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, 32 million people were wearing the yellow Livestrong® bracelet in February 2005. The popularity of the Livestrong® bracelet led to the creation of many similar bracelets promoting awareness of other societal issues. Bracelets are now available in almost every color, promoting awareness of everything from adoption to worker safety. In the UK to coincide with the government's anti-bullying week in November, football (soccer) players started to wear blue anti-bullying bracelets, used to raise awareness for bullied on kids. Ironically, kids wearing the bracelet have become an easy target for bullies. Tsunami relief bracelets range in colors of purple and black, to white and blue. These bracelets are being used to raise money for several Tsunami Relief causes. On the outside, the white bracelet or any other color you purchase can be inscribed with Tsunami relief, Tsunami support, or Tsunami donor; while on the inside is inscribed “help the children.” Not only are these bracelets starting a fashion craze, they represent some of the greater problems of the world, and hope to live amongst them. The bracelets are a way to represent you. An international fashion craze, these bracelets represent your view on society. Sources have said that black is the new pink; well I say awareness bracelets are the new black. Every teen who caries one stands strong for the cause they represent. For some it is not even a cause, such as the princess bracelets and baller bracelets, some are just to join the stylistic purposes of wearing them. Many websites offer customized bracelets for your own organization, or cause. Including various color choices, and your own inscription to send out your message. The biggest side affect for these however, is the requirement that you buy in bulk. Although these bracelets seem like the best idea for advertisement considering the popularity of them, some critics denounce sales of the bracelets by resellers, arguing that consumers may be misled into believing the price of a bracelet is donated to the corresponding charity when it actually is not. This issue is really presented when browsing through eBay listings, many of which offer "Livestrong type" bracelets, which are stamped with the word "Livestrong" and are available in colors other than yellow. Be aware that these bracelets are essentially counterfeits and no proceeds from their sale go to the Foundation or any other charitable cause. According to a fashion article online, another issue concerning the Lance Armstrong Livestrong® bracelet is the fact that it resembles the color-coded wristbands used by hospitals to symbolize certain care instructions. Unfortunately, hospitals often use yellow bands (very similar in color to the Livestrong® bracelet) to designate patients with "do not resuscitate" orders. Some hospitals reportedly are covering patients' awareness bracelets with tape to avoid confusion - but the safest bet may be not to wear the bracelet at all when in the hospital. Awareness bracelets are the most creative and innovative way to advertise or create awareness for a strong cause today. The fact that they are also fashionable, and eye-catching to adolescents and the younger generations, makes the purpose of the bracelets live up to the standards. |

you're right when you say we were supposed to be friends forever. since 6th grade that was our credo, and that's the way it went for a while. until the summer of 9th going into 10th grade year when you become closer to celia, and i became closer with jasper. we drifted apart slowly, and i didn't realize how i avoided everyone until it was too late, or at least thats what i thought. i tried to mend the friendship, but we were already too involved with our own friendships that we forgot how to be there for each other. i've never wished harm upon you, i hope you know that. i loved you like you were one of my sisters. i'm sorry that our friendship has been diminished to so little. i love you jary, you know i do and it does hurt to see you almost everyday and not be able to say hey. i see your sadness even though you try to hide it, i recognize it because it's something i've done as well. i wish you all the happiness in the world, and no matter what i've always been and will always will be here. ~MARI |

Artist of the month: Louis Kipp Staff writer: Mariana Garcia
Some may think of drawing as just an enjoyable past time, others like senior Louis Kipp think of it as a passion that could never be diminished. Specializing in portrait drawings, using graphite pencil Kipp’s talent for enhancing and enlarging a portrait picture is staggering. To Kipp making a portrait a representation of himself is the best part of drawing. “When something represents a piece of me is when I think I’ve truly completed my drawing,” said Kipp. Drawing on his own is more enjoyable to Kipp, than a class assignment. “When I draw something on my own I tend to push my idea further.” Having a picture bring a sense of comical relief to his peers is one of the perks Kipp receives in his drawings. Planning on receiving a scholarship off of his artwork to the art college in Miami, his plan is to one day become an art teacher. Asked by many starting artist Louis suggest to “start off with realism, and imitating others artwork, until you strengthen your own talents and become a more independent artist.” |

Ultimate Sports Fan: Whom do you represent? Staff writer: Mariana Garcia
Ultimate sports fans are known to be infused on the television set, have the steak simmering on the grill, munch away on Tostitos chips, and ignore basically everyone and anyone not associated with the game. Some people enjoy watching a sport for the star athletes, others it’s a tradition to support a certain team, and even a location can make the choice of an ultimate sports fan’s favorite team. “An ultimate sports fan supports their team through wins and losses.” Said junior, Olivia Sanchez. Sanchez watches each game that UM plays and plans to attend more games in the future football season. As a tradition her family always barbeques on game days, and host an “in house” tailgate party. Her family has always been strong supporters of UM and she plans to continue the tradition once she has a family of her own. Freshman Mario Partida said, “My favorite basketball team is the Miami Heat, not only are they great players in my eyes, but they also represent the place I was born.” For some supporting a team doesn’t always have to do with the players, it’s also about the location they represent. Partida’s favorite part of watching the game is to see his favorite athlete Shaquille O’Neal scoring points left and right. In supporting the great O’Neal, Partida is sure to suit up in his “lucky “ jersey sporting O’Neal’s number 32, in the distinguished black and red. Junior, Felix Ferrer has declared himself a Florida Marlins fan, even before the “bandwagon convention” with the World Series win in 2003. He attends games regularly, wears his jerseys proudly, and gets extremely offended when categorized as a bandwagon member. Senior Irma Lopez, strong supporter of the Dallas Cowboys football team sports her mini-backpack with the team’s symbol of the star bright and proud year-round. Even though she is a girl, and diminutive in size, her knowledge of football and her team is impressive even to the most machismo male. Some of these students have wall mountings in their rooms showing their pride in their team. It doesn’t matter if your team isn’t the strongest in the league, or association if you’re a true fan your support should last throughout the years, even when the season is over. Hang your posters on your walls, wear your jersey’s year round, and stand up for your teams name and what they represent to you. |

Who’s The SMARTEST?! Staff Writer: Mariana Garcia
When you think of the AP student, the first image that pops into your mind is, the classic geek with glasses, the loaded bookbag, and tasteless style. The supposed "brains" of the school are said to be the most intelligent students of all. When put through the ultimate test for any student who wants to attend college, the FCAT is not the test to be feared. The SAT (Scholastic Achievement Test) is the test that has the AP/Honors, and even regular students shaking in their pants. Thinking that the AP students are the smartest of the bunch, the student body would expect them to have the highest of the scores. Unfortunately that is not so. So, the question lays, are AP/ honor students really all that smart? Junior AP/ honor student, Leonardo Montalban said " I do believe I am smart, because not only do I have book knowledge but I also have common sense." There's still hope for students like these. The highest score available on the SAT is a 1600. To date the majority of AP/Honor students who have taken the SAT have scored mediocre. Junior AP student Laura Nibot number one in her class said ”I expected myself to score higher than what I did.” A disgcouarging thought for all other AP/honor juniors to think that the the number one student in their class couldn’t bring an impressive score to the table. I’m more than positive it makes other students wonder how well they will do. Perhaps with the two new periods that will be added to the bell schedule on the 24th of January, classes on SAT prep may seem a lot more appealing than usual. Majority of colleges look soley on the SAT scores, you should be sure to impress them with your intelligence, even if your a “regular” student. Don’t let the title of a certain class discourage you, your as smart as you believe you are and no one should be able to tell you otherwise. |
