11:05a - famous androgynes
Hatshepsut was a female pharaoh. Te had taself depicted on monuments with breasts and the pharaonic false beard. Early Egyptologists assumed te was male, ignored the breasts, and murmured about the male lover sometimes depicted with ta.
Victoria was a female king. Te declared that for the purposes of ruling, te was male, and in toi private life, te remained female, adding that "the burden of rule is something no woman should have to bear."
Interestingly, Victoria's court physician, John something-or-other, was found to be female on toi deathbed.
There are any number of examples of women crossing gender lines, presumably to free themselves from the limitations imposed on them by a largely male-centric society. People find it understandable that women would want to be men, or even androgynous.
That males should want to give up the limitations imposed on them by society, when they seem to have a vested interest in upholding those very limitations, gives rise to shock and horror in the minds of the uninitiated.
But limitations are limitations, roles are roles, rules are rules, and they all stand in the way of our becoming complete human beings. I am not interested in exchanging one set of rules for another.

11:23p - Later...
My life is utterly disorganized. I'm a mess. Half the time I can't keep my own thoughts in order. I certainly can't keep all my goals straight and work on them all in an orderly fashion. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that half the time I can't find my bed.
I just got rid of half my clothes; the stuff I don't wear anymore because either it doesn't fit or it's too gender-specific. I'd like to say I had a potlatch and handed out rich gifts, but aside from a few articles I had set aside for specific people I just dumped them all on the free-table. Free-table is wondrous. I must have just racked up a shitload of free-table karma.
Now to get the rest of the stuff off the benighted floor and see if it's miraculously sprouted carpet in the months since I've seen it.
