Sometimes the UK justice system baffles me! Actually scratch that. Most of the time the UK justice system baffles me.

A couple of days ago, I was reading an article about someone who had been convicted of murder. One of the quotes was something like "and he will serve at least 18 years of a life sentence". Excuse me? That doesn't make sense. If someone is given a life sentence, it should be <>for life unless they win an appeal or something. They shouldn't be sentenced to life, knowing at the outset that they'll be realeased at some point in the future.

I read an article this morning about a man who groomed a 14 year old boy for two years for a peadophile ring. He brainwashed the boy, abducted him and then sold him to the head of a peadophile ring who turned him into a male prostitute. The boy was missing for just one week but in that time he lost count of the number of men that he "serviced". The boy would drug himself in order to numb the pain from the abuse.

The man who groomed and sold him got 8 years in jail, the head of the ring got 7 years in jail and one of the boys most frequent customers got 3 and half years in jail. I think it's disgusting that these men are going to be allowed back into society at some point. It's quite sad, but I don't often get shocked by things that happen in the world anymore. The last thing to really shock me was September 11th. Granted, that was enough shock to last me for a while. I still can't quite believe it. But nothing has really shocked me since and it'd have to go something after that. But I was sittiing on the train this morning shaking with anger. And I looked at the photographs of the three men and felt real hate.

It was actually quite comforting to know that I'm not completely jaded and cynical.

I'm going to see REM!

I just booked tickets to go see them at Loch Lomond next June! I'm so excited I can barely type! Ever since I passed on the chance of going to see them at Stirling Castle, I've been kicking myself. Hard. But now I'm going to see them!

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

current mood: jubilant
