Forthcoming Hellsing OVA — Anti-Freeman/English Dub Petition
As some of you may or may not know, Geneon/YKO has recently confirmed that a new Hellsing OVA is in the works, which promises to be much more faithful to the manga than the original, 13-episode TV series was. Many fans loved the original series, but felt the English dub was rather poorly acted — especially in comparison to the performances of Nakata, Nozawa, and the other Japanese seiyuu — and subsequently ruined many of the series' characters, along with the enjoyment of watching it in English for a lot of us. So, in response to this, an anti-Freeman petition has just been started on behalf of the fans who were dissatisfied with the job that Freeman (among others) did in the previous Hellsing series, and don't wish him to return and ruin Alucard's character again in the forthcoming OVA. I'd encourage all those who want a decent English dub this time, that's on par with the Japanese seiyuu's performances, to sign. Please show your support!!

The petition can be found here: http://www.petitiononline.com/HELLSING/petition.html

Thanks in advance to all signatories.

    Wha..
Has my joining caused this community to.. DIE? O_O Ah, well it seems most of these entries are spaced out time-wise, anyway.

    Today: the Inuyasha dub.

I hate how they call Kirara "Kilala". Yes, I *know* the R's and L's are interchangeable.. but KILALA? ~_~
Inuyasha sounds like a surfer boy from "Cali". Richard Cox is horrible. Simply horrible.
Sango's voice is waaaay to high. She really needs to have a deep, beautiful voice. Then again, I can't expect a female English voice actor to have a deep voice, let alone beautiful.
I don't know why I dislike Sesshoumaru's voice-- I just do. It's not bad, just not good for Sesshoumaru.
    Naraku's voice was actually perfect.
    Miroku's was "meh".
I don't like how they pronounce Kikyou. They make it sound like "Kee.. kee... oh". They did the same thing in the Fruits Basket dub, calling Kyo "Kio".
I can't even remember what Shippo sounded like, and I really don't care to find out.
I really don't understand why they had Kaede speak olde English. Attention dubbers: This is Japan. Not Europe. JAPAN.
I never head any of the OTHER villagers speak Olde English, anyway, so why is Kaede?'

    Ok. I'm done. Wee!

This is an awesome idea. ^__^ I hate (most) dubs with a passion.. I just know I'm going to LOVE this community. *_* Anywho...

The most recent dub I was forced to see is Hellsing.. it was actually pretty good. In fact, the only problems I have with it are Alucard and Seras' voices..

Alucard- I HATE Crispin Freeman. A lot. 'nuff said.

Seras- Oiii.. Her voice sounded like one of those rabbits from the Watership Down movie. -__-;; It was so annoying!!

I'll rant more a little later. YAY! O_O

    Lets Jam.
I have a list of crappy dub voice actors! I'm going to love this community.

    First Show: Weiss Kreuz
WHAT DID THEY DO!!! AHHHHH Poor Weiß! Poor Shwartz! Midorikawa-sama T_T Ryoutarou-san! Tomokazu-sama! Takehito-sama and even Hiro Yuuki! They butchered those characters to bloody hell! I don't even know the NA dub cast but ugh its too sucky. I cannot bare to watch it dubbed.

    Show: Tenkuu no Escaflowne

... This was an injustice! Such a beautiful show ... destroyed by Kirby Morrow as Van Fanel and Kelley Sheridan or whatever her name is who played Hitomi Kanzaki. The characters ... were horrid and the show was edited and ... just NO!

    Show: Slayers

Oh my Goodness! ARGH Lina Inverse and Zelgadis Greywords. AHHHHHH

    Show: Neon Genesis Evangelion

I loathe Spike Spencer as Shinji Ikari and I hate Tiffany Grant as Asuka Soryu Langley!

All of these awesome shows destroyed by disgusted and terrible NA dubs!

    Are you with me everyone?

    Argh.
Why didn't I find this place sooner?!

Anyway, I'm new, obviously. I can't stand dubs for the most part [ there are a few I actually like ], so of course, I joined. My first anime was Sailor Moon. I was... what? Second grade? Third? Around that age, when I discovered anime. I never thought anything of the voices or anything like that. I don't think it was until I saw Tenchi Muyo! that dubs started grating on my nerves... Three words:

    Aeka and Ryouko.

::Cringes:: I remember, I watched the first Tenchi Movie in Japanese, then I rented a dub tape of one of the OVA episodes and I swear to god, my ears started bleeding when Aeka spoke. Ryouko didn't help it. Since then, I NEVER wanted to hear a dub again.

...oh, and imagine this: My mom likes anime, but she prefers the dub for convinience. My poor, poor ears.

I picked up Neon Genesis Evangelion on DVD -- mom wanted to watch too. Language choice: English Dub.

...I must've died a million times. Boy was I glad I managed to watch it alone in Japanese first. If I hadn't, I would've been forever turned off to Eva.

Imagine my horror to dub anime airing all over the place. You know, if there's one thing worse than just a dubbed anime, it's a dubbed and EDITED anime. As in, killed. Like the Yu-Gi-Oh! dub. And "Card Captors" ... thank god that lame excuse of a Cardcaptor Sakura dub is dead. Now, I cry, because .hack//SIGN's on CN late night on Saturday and most of the voices make me physically ill.

Tsukasa's dub voice.. ::Twitch.:: It's all scratchy and nasal-like and... UNCUTE. He sounds like he has an eternal cold. >.< .hack//SIGN isn't the only .hack to suffer poor dub. The .hack video game dubbing is just as bad. If there is a god, I must thank him, for Bandai has giving the option to choose the original Japanese dialogue in the game.

    Oi... that was long. I feel better. It's the first time I was able to bitch about bad dubs without someone calling me a "nazi" about it. Oh, before I shut up, dubs I actually liked: Cowboy Bebop, Golden Boy, and the Miyazaki films. Those are all I can think of off the top of my head. ^^;;

Spank the monkey - Mokona's Saiyuki dub review
Yeah... this is a bit late but... felt like writing so NYAH! >P

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the MotorCity Comic con. Well, after shopping around and spending entirely TOO much money on anime plushies, I decided to settle in the animation room. Of course, after sitting through an excrutiating hour of dubbed .hack//SIGN, I finally got to see the dub of one of my more recent faves, Saiyuki. My thoughts? Not bad. Not bad at all. Not as good as the original but certainly better than some. Let's just say, I wasn't cringing every time someone opened their mouths. *cough*.hack//SIGN*cough* Actually, I think the four main guys did a pretty good job there. And while some of the bit players (especially the villains of the day/week/episode) tend to over act, it's isn't bad enough to make you want to gouge your eardrums with a rusty screwdriver. In short, the orginal is still best but if you get stuck watching the dub, you'll still have a good time regardless.

    Mokona gives Saiyuki 7/10

Hey, this is an awesome idea! I really don't like the dubs on WB: Cardcaptor Sakura, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh. There are good dubs, but those aren't them. I really hate what they did to Malik...or Marik. *low growl* And Rishid...I think they changed his name to Lishid or something really stupid and they changed Osiris's name to Sleypher or something that doesn't make any sense because they kept Obelisk and Ra, I think. STUPID!!!! I think that Digimon is actually a pretty good dub, but I've never heard the Japanese voices. Sailor Moon really sucks, especially since they took out most of the perverted jokes. Those just add to the fun. :) Heehee. That's all for now.

    Wow. Innovative. XD

A gathering of people who dislike the dubs. ^^ I like. So... here I am. XD

I am way too scared to even listen to the dubbed voices of Weiß characters after flipping through cable channels at a hotel during a vacation and stumbling to hear (unforunately) the dubbed voice of Inu Yasha. 'Twas the episode where we first learn about the nights where he changes into a human and I heard his dubbed voice say this in these exact words: "You should worry more about yourselves than me."

I swear I nearly lobbed my uncle's head off for not finding a movie he wanted to watch faster, before he stumbled upon Cartoon Network. I suppose it's a good thing for me that I don't get cable. XD

After watching the complete series of Shinseiki Evangelion in dubs, I swore to myself "Never again." And so far, I have lived up to that vow. ^^

Just glad to be a new member here and there's my overly enthused introduction to the rest of the community. ^~

Remember how I said I wasn't gonna touch a dubbed FY tape? Well, I lied. My mom rented it from our local anime store and I watched w/ her a couple of days ago. It wasn't so bad. Of course, the wretched Chichiri wasn't in it so... . Actually, the actors who did Tamahome, Miaka and Nuriko weren't half bad. In fact, I think the girl who did Miaka was actually an improvement. (No offense Araki but AIYA! *ears bleed*).

In other news, I finally got to see the Excel Saga dub in its entirety (well, the first five episodes anyway). I'm still not happy w/ Il Palazzo's dubbed voice but I'm not quite so... enthusiastic w/ my hatred. LOL. The dub actors (especially the lady who did Excel) did a good job considering the source material. Not quite as dynamic as the original but hardly the worst dub in anime history. Oh and *kicks Hyatt's dub actress* please wake up dear. We want to be able to hear you w/o the volume turned up to it's maximum.

So, that's my rant for today!

Why I hate dubs (yes, there's a reason!)
Hello there. Tis your friendly maintainer/moderator Mokona here. Just thought I'd kick things off here w/ an explanation for why I, personally, hate dubs.

First of all, I used to be a big fan of Sailor Moon. Now, when I was smaller, I thought nothing of those annoying voices and the corny "Sailor Moon Says" segments at the ends of the episodes. Now that I've had the chance to hear the original voices, I now realize how horribly acted the Sailor Moon dub was.

The second reason I hate dubs occured more recently. My mom and I are both big Fushigi Yuugi fans (we own the whole series, two of the OAVs and all the translated manga so far) and one of my favorite characters is Chichiri, mainly because of the way he speaks and sounds. Now imagine my horror upon hearing the dub. Instead of Chichiri being his adorable monkish self, I get a cruel and irritating mockery!!! Now if they had just kept the "no da"s like in the original, then I wouldn't have had such a problem but instead they replaced it w/ "you know". ARRGH!!! Why? Let's put it this way: I'm never going to touch a dubbed FY tape for as long as I live. >__<

Now I don't hate all dubs. There are quite a few that I think are comparable to the originals (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Slayers, Hellsing and Inu-yasha are a few) but there are too many dubs that just... suck! (*coughFYcoughRoninWarriorscough*)

So basically, I created this community as a place for anime lovers to blow off steam about what they think are bad dubs.

    ... -____-0 I was rambling again wasn't I?...

    Anyhoo, let the bitching begin!!!!
