~ LJ Withdrawal ~ In future years, this will be known as
The Great LiveJournal Blackout of '05, don't you think? It's certainly mobilized some of the guiding lights of LJ-based fandom to dust off their journals at other services. And, considering some of the controvertial rumors floating around regarding the LJ SixApart buyout (or whatever the name of the new gang is -- I can't check it on my journal right now ::whimpers::), it's none too soon for people to start readying alternative methods and means.
Though I'm far from being a guiding light of LJ-based fandom, I still took a moment to dust off my alternative journals. You can find me at the following places, all using the same name:
Djinanna @ Blurty
Djinanna @ Greatest Journal
Djinanna @ JournalFen
Djinanna @ LiveJournalImagine my surprise when I discovered I'm considered an "early adopter" at Greatest Journal! If you're shopping for a new/secondary/back-up journal, the above all use the basic LiveJournal format with some individual tweaks to better suit them.
As for other journal-based resources, it's always a wise idea to search out Elke Tanzer. She's at all four of the above journal locations, under as "elke_tanzer". Her resource posts and LJ memories are legendary; she has the heart of an archivist. And she's started a
LJ Blackout Party over at JournalFen's
Fandom Lounge community -- there's loads of links to fanfic, challenges, archives, games, essays, and more.
There's another roundup of cool/fun links
HERE on JournalFen.
And because JournalFen's servers are feeling the strain and it's been going on and off line all day, and it's a good idea, there's this message board called
The LJ Patch for LJ withdrawal. It's run by
kben @ JournalFen.
Now I'm gonna take a few minutes rest before dinner. Leave a comment if you wander on by, 'kay? I'm curious about how many people are out there right now.
