Vic! [15 Feb 2006 | duel start @ 03:10pm]
[ mood | amused ]
[ music | Bratja ~ Vic Mignogna, translated by Tobu Ishi ]

So. Funny story. Actually, it's a two-part funny story.

Last night, Dai linked me to an interesting YouTube video. I watched it (okay, three times) and I realized that, as well as being abso-fricking-lutely beautiful (I now love Vic as much as Paku Romi, which is saying something), I had heard the song before.

I did some research, and turns out that that version of Bratja was indeed the one written by Tobu Ishi (email address included at her request, and much luck to her in her goal of becoming a translator), who translated the Russian to English and adapted the English to fit the music so it would be singable, and posted at fm_alchemist. Other members of fm_a later recorded a version of it, which is also beautiful. And, as it turns out, someone managed to get those lyrics to Vic, who sang them at a convention. He doesn't want the song out on the Internet, but I downloaded it before I learned about that, and now I love it too much to delete it. ;_; The lyrics rawk, too. You'd think the song would stop making me cry after about the twentieth time through, but nope.

Bratja, as translated by Tobu Ishi. )

So, the second part of this funny story. As I'm sure you know, I work in the office of my uncle, better known around here as the Associate Provost. Other various people work in our office, including Elise, who joined our office a few months ago. A little while after I met her, I also met Elise's husband and two boys when they came to meet her for lunch. And I learned that their whole family loves Fullmetal Alchemist (the dub, they're not Japanese freaks like me).

I found this whole situation rather amusing, as at the time, I had yet to meet a anime fan who is otherwise normal (doesn't go to cons or cosplay or spend all their free time online, etc.). It's a different experience. XD

We discuss it every once in a while, despite the fact that I can't watch the dub because other people are usually using the TV in here on Saturday nights. Today, Elise showed me her new desktop wallpaper, which is a pretty nice-looking fanart of Ed and armor!Al, with a little ghosty-looking human!Al hovering over the armor.

So, I had a thought, and I'm going to bring in Vic's rendition of Bratja to play for her tomorrow. I'm sure they'll enjoy it, even though it's not really supposed to be distributed, but I'm sure they won't be posting it up for download or anything.

And now my computer is whining for a restart, so I shall return.
