8:36PM - Notes from Africa #4

I have now arrived safely in Melbourne. Although the flights were good, I still still recovering from sickness, and my suitcase was delayed. Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow.

Some of my Australian readers will be asking what movies I watched on the way back. I saw Becoming Jane, which is about Jane Austen, and therefore depicts the perils facing a young authoress. It's also got a couple of good lines:

– What is she doing?
– Writing.
– Can anything be done about it?

I saw 300, which concerns the Battle of Thermopylae. I thought this was a very clever film: through its texture, dialogue and narration, it is intended to remind the viewer of 1970s Italian "B" movies.

And I saw Amazing Grace, which tells the wonderful story of William Wilberforce and the abolition of the slave trade. It examines the Christian's role in politics, as well as the place of failure in the Christian life. This is a film all my readers should see.
