For those who arrived late, the Presbyterian Theological College at which I study is sending a mission team to Malawi and Zambia, in part to develop closer ties with our sister church over there, the Church of Central Africa, Presbyterian (CCAP).
There are thirteen people in the team. Nine are students at the PTC, two are wives of students, and two are leaders. Below is the itinerary of the trip – next week I plan to post some specific prayer points. Please consider partnering us in this endeavour by praying for health, safety and effectiveness in ministry.
Friday, 15th June. I need to leave home at 5am in order to catch a 7:30am flight to Sydney, and then a 10am flight to Johannesburg. It is a fourteen hour flight, arriving in Africa at 4pm.
Saturday 16th. We fly to Blantyre, the largest city in Malawi. That will be our base for the next week.
Sunday 17th – Monday 18th. Settling in, attending church, orientation program.
Tuesday 19th – Thursday 21st. We split into five teams and embark on different activities. I will be going to Zomba Theological College, where I will give two talks. On Tuesday afternoon I will speak on gender and sexuality from Genesis 1 – 3, while on Wednesday morning I will speak on baptism.
Saturday 23rd. Elders' training day, in which together we will give a series of talks on Ephesians. I'll be looking at Ephesians 6.
Sunday 24th. Preaching at a church in or near Blantyre – but this is yet to be confirmed.
Monday 25th. Travel by bus to Zambia – we spend half the trip in Malawi and half in Zambia.
Tuesday 26th – Thursday 28th. We will be running a training school for evangelists in a rather remote part of Zambia. I'll be giving two talks on the Old Testament themes and theology – on kingship on Tuesday afternoon, and on promise on Wednesday afternoon.
Friday 29th. Road trip to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.
Saturday 30th. Elders' conference, repeating the material we used in Blantyre.
Sunday 1st July. Preaching somewhere in or around Lusaka.
Monday 2nd – Tuesday 3rd More meeting and greeting. Hopefully visit Victoria Falls.
Wednesday 4th. Fly to Johannesburg in the afternoon, and to Sydney in the evening.
Thursday 5th. Arrive in Melbourne at 5pm.
