It's not a contradiction, it's a creative antithesis!
Moltmann argued that God did not have to create and enter into the world and history, but at the same time he asserted that there could be no "otherwise." Although the German theologian found such talk merely an example of theology's "creative antitheses," to some of his readers it appears nothing less than sheer contradiction.
