5:36PM - Being a Christian in your car #9: Out with the old and in with the new!

No, I'm not talking about purchasing a new car. Instead, in a number of places the New Testament describes Christian behaviour in terms of putting off the old self and putting on the new. For example, in Colossians 3, Paul says that we should put away anger (verse 8) and put on "compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience" (verse 12).

These are all virtues that we need while driving, and can, in fact, be cultivated by driving. At numerous points on the journey something will happen that will leave us with a choice concerning how we respond. Somebody honks his horn at us – do we choose anger, or do we choose patience? The lights go against us for the fifth time in a row – do we get frustrated, or learn to rejoice?

So leave your old self behind in the garage, and drive like a Christian.
