5:54PM - Jesus is the Stairway to Heaven!

Jacob dreamed, and saw a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. (Genesis 28:12)

Jesus said to him, "Amen, Amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man." (John 1:51)

Yesterday I wrote a bit about metaphors in the Bible. I also learned something new yesterday, thanks to a book I've been reading by Robert Gundry. I always knew that John 1:51 referred to Jacob's dream in Genesis 28. Until yesterday, however, I always imagined that Jesus was linking himself to Jacob: Jesus being on the earth, at the bottom of the ladder.

But we can also think of Jesus being the ladder itself. The angels are going up and down on him. In other words, Jesus is the connection between heaven and earth.
