i) Scripture helps us to focus on some things and ignore others. In particular, we should not be bothered by those things not condemned as sin in the Bible, but are merely eccentric. Therefore, we should not get caught up in the details. When counselling someone who exhibits bizarre behaviour, (such as evidence of delusions), we should focus on the ordinary. Which means, focusing on the things they can do something about. The biblical counsellor seeks to find the normal in the abnormal.
ii) And because of this, we do not need to be concerned over the physiological component of various conditions. For example, working out whether depression is physiological is not the #1 issue. Rather, there will always be thoughts and actions that the person can change. Sure, medication might be helpful, but since we are spiritual beings, ("embodied souls") there will always be a picture of God to fix our eyes upon, as well as sin that needs to be rooted out.
iii) In Oppositional Defiant Disorder, of course, the problem is entirely spiritual.
