8:49PM - Bits and pieces

I flew to Tasmania today for a Presbytery meeting. I am "under the care of" the Presbytery of Bass, so I visit them once a year and tell them how I'm going. (Presbytery is a group of men in the Presbyterian church who collectively function rather like a Bishop.) They really do care for me...

Reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe this morning, (in preparation for the release of the movie), I came across this quotation: "Lucy felt running through her that deep shiver of gladness which you only get if you are being solemn and still." The implications of this for (corporate) Christian worship seem to me to be very significant. Perhaps we need more solemnity and stillness.

I passed a Roman Catholic church this afternoon which had a banner out the front saying, "Come Home for Christmas." What does that mean, exactly?

Jim Turney of Raleigh, North Carolina, has won this year's Most Relevant Pastor in America award.
