Last week was mental health week here in Australia. I saw an advertisment concerning it on TV, and was impressed as to how closely it reflected the Christian life. To promote mental health, it claimed, people need
- something to do;
- someone to love;
- something to look forward to.
This strikes me as a summary of what the gospel gives to us: something to do, someone to love, and something to look forward to. We live as Christ commands us, we love him with all our hearts and souls and minds, and we eagerly expect his return, which will mean an end to all sin and suffering. In other words, in Christ, God provides us exactly what we need.
It looks like the Mental Health Association possesses a good deal of natural wisdom, but then again - it shouldn't surprise us that there would be such a close connection between mental health and spiritual health.
Thanks to Shiloh for this one...
