4:53PM - Books XI

Instead of writing my Old Testament essay, I finished Watership Down today. And yes, I loved it. And no, I don't know why I hadn't read it before. And yes, go ahead and say "I told you so"...

It made me cry, too. Twice. The first time was when Bigwig says, "My Chief Rabbit has told me to defend this run, and until he says otherwise I shall stay here." The second time was on the very last page of the book, when Hazel meets the rabbit whose ears were shining with a faint, silver light.

Thank you Luke, Tony and others who encouraged me to read it. May Frith shine on you always.

10:18PM - Poems X

One of the great things about Watership Down is that every chapter is prefaced by a quote. For chapter 43 it is the poem "Napoleon", by Walter de la Mare:

What is the world, O soldiers?
It is I:
I, this incessant snow,
This northern sky;
Soldiers, this solitude
Through which we go
Is I.
