A big thank you to (and mutual back-scratching for) the folks at http://www.blogs4god.com who have included this humble journal among their featured blogs this week. You'd better check out their page quickly though, as the reference to my blurty will probably soon pass into oblivion...
And I'll take this opportunity to give a big thank you to all my faithful readers. Both of you. Nah, just kidding, though I really have no idea of how many people read all this. But I particularly like people replying, so thanks for everyone who have posted comments. Please do so more!
Lastly, the more observant among you will have noticed that I've set up a new category, and being the perfectionist that I am went back and edited all the relevant previous posts...
"King Arthur" would have been better if it didn't pretend to be historical. "The untold true story that inspired the legend." Yeah, right. It starts with the words "Historians agree that..." and goes downhill from there.
The historical revisionist are out in force, particularly in regards to the authority of the pope in the 5th century. Apparently he was commanding Roman legions and granting lands north of Hadrian's wall. Bishops had replaced governors and military commanders. (Though apparently there was a historical Bishop Germanus who was sent to Britain to combat the Pelagian heresy and was involved in some sort of military victory there.)
Anyway, it's always good seeing what other people say about movie that you've just watched:
Andrew, aged 15, from http://christiananswers.net/spotlight/movies/2004/kingarthur.html says
"Some Christians may see the portrayal of the Roman-Catholic church as anti-Christian, This is wrong, due to the fact that the Roman Catholic church was extremely corrupt during this time period. Even though Arthur's knights mock Christianity at times, Arthur usually has a faith-based come-back ready... Oh, and about Gwynivers [sic] battle-bikini she wears in the last battle, wouldn't you want something comfortable and easy to move around in during battle."
Was I like that when I was 15?
