...there was a little girl with long blonde hair named Alice. she had eyes of the brightest blue, that sparkled more than the most faceted sapphire. undisputedly, she was the fairest in the land. unfortunately, she was hated for her beauty by a neighboring man, who feared she would outshine his two daughters. the solution to this problem was easy, really. he married the widow of the beautiful child, and kept her happy for several years. the neighbors all agreed that his love for her was unsurpassed.
and then it happened.
one night, the widow died mysteriously. her husband, in frenzied devotion, ordered an investigation, but all that could be found was an apple that the widow had been eating, prior to her death. wrecked with grief, the man turned into bed early that night. no one saw the smile on his face as he drifted off to sleep.
the next morning Alice's stepfather ordered her up early and sent her to live in the attic. the neighbors were all told that she had been sent off to the finest of boarding schools. they all tutted, and agreed that, as a spitting image of her mother, she must be a horrible sight for the man.
and so, Alice lived for several years in her attic. she was allowed out three times a day to cook and clean for her stepfamily. she lived in a constant state of hunger and dirtiness, but after a while she got used to both. she even learned to be cautiously happy, for the mice and squirrels that scurried in and out of the eaves grew used to her presence and would sometimes even let her pet them before they continued on their way. it was dark days for Alice, but she bore them cheerfully enough.
And so it was durning this time that there happened to be a family which moved in next door to Alice. they had a little boy, and his name was Jack, and he loved to grow things. within a few weeks, he already had a small garden of beans and pumpkins and repunzell, plus roses and ivy growing up the sides of the house.
it was when he was tending to his garden one day when he noticed Alice staring out the window. she was paying attention to something he couldn't see, no matter what way he looked. eventually, she seemed to realize someone was watching her, and when she caught sight of him she backed away from the window quickly. Jack was in love.
due to the fact that i've now found something to do, this story will be continued later.. or just cut short here. if i never managed to finish it, you can all use your wee imaginations to think up some happy ending for Alice and Jack. i probably would've mangled both their lives, had i finished it myself.
