It's the end of a great 3-day weekend. Most kids will be going back to school tomorrow. Actually, most schools have already resumed - about a week or two ago. As for myself, I needed this holiday. It's been crazy for the past 2 weeks, since one of our officers in the department went on vacation, leaving me to take care of everything, since I'm her backup.
Saturday, Dion, our friend Diana, and I drove up to Merced for one of my good friend's baby's 3rd birthday. The family had been inviting me, Dion, and my parents to drive up there for a while, but yesterday was when we actually had time to do it. It's a pretty far drive - 3 and a half hours each way. On the way to the party, we stopped over and picked up our buddy Marbin, who is studying at UC Merced. It's really different out there - it's pretty peaceful. A lot of land still remains undeveloped, so there are lots of farms and open space. It really is a nice place to go out if you just want to get away from the city, but it's not very pleasant when you smell all the cows and manure during the drive up there. However, we had a lot of fun seeing our friend and the little munchkin again. Maybe we'll be up there again in October for my friend's martial arts exhibition and competition thingie, which is going to be held at UC Merced.
Sunday, the Ohana guys and I took our "day trip" that we had been planning to go on. Initially, we had planned on going somewhere a little bit further, but plans didn't go as expected, so we decided to do something else. Dion, Reggie, Mike, and I woke up early and went to 7 am mass. We had breakfast at Jack in the Box, and headed over to Monterey. Our primary plan was to go to the Aquarium. However, we didn't end up doing that because the line just to get in was so long. Instead, we just walked around. It was still early when we were done checking out all the places located on Cannery Road, so we all sat down and decided where to go next. We ended up craving for some Sonic's...so we decided to drive 3 hours (not like the ride to get to Monterey wasn't long enough already for us...haha) to head to Tracy, just to get some burgers and fries. We ended up putting so much mileage on Dion's car, it's not even funny. It was hilarious on the drive up to Tracy. Reggie decided to drive, since Dion drove the first leg, and I said I would drive the last. That left me in the front, and Mike and Dion in the back. We all fell asleep, but when I woke up, I decided it was time to spit my gum out the window. Unfortunately, me being as short as I am, when I spit the gum out, it didn't quite make it outside the window. Instead it flew directly behind me and hit Dion on the forehead. He woke up and was totally pissed at me...haha. Then, he opened his window to throw it out, making Reggie's stack of napkins fly around the inside of the car. It was totally hilarious...and the funniest thing is that Mike stayed asleep the entire time.
When we got to Sonic's, we were totally excited that we didn't even stay in the car to order. Instead, we all crowded around the menu as a group and just chilled there in the "stall". Mike really liked the "Open Midnight or Later" and the "Happy Hour" signs, so he decided to take a little "souvenir" of them. Anyway, turns out, Mike's brother has a house there, so he called them up, and we ended up going there. His family is really nice and his niece and nephews are totally adorable. We ate a little more at their house, and watched them all play with their Slip and Slide. After, it was time to go home... It may have been a lot of gas and mileage, but it was all worth it...
Today was time to catch up on sleep and chill...Tomorrow, it's time to work hard, hit the gym after work, and then hit the books.
