12:09 pm - yes I'm a sick pup, but I love groaners
A frog goes into a bank and approaches the teller.. He can see from her nameplate that her name is Patricia Whack.

"Miss Whack, I'd like to get a $30,000 loan to take a holiday."

Patty looks at the frog in disbelief and asks his name. The frog says his name is Kermit Jagger, his dad is Mick Jagger, and that it's okay, he knows the bank manager.

Patty explains that he will need to secure the loan with some collateral.

The frog says, "Sure . I have this," and produces a tiny porcelain elephant, about an inch tall, bright pink and perfectly formed.

Very confused, Patty explains that she'll have to consult with the bank manager and disappears into a back office.

She finds the manager and says, "There's a frog called Kermit Jagger out there who claims to know you and wants to borrow $30,000, and he wants to use this as collateral."

She holds up the tiny pink elephant. "I mean, what in the world is this?"

The bank manager looks back at her and says...

"It's a knickknack, Patty Whack. Give the frog a loan, His old man's a Rolling Stone."

Good at seeing others' points of view, you get how people think and feel.

You have an uncanny ability to sense true feelings, intentions, and motivations.

A natural born leader, you are great at teaching and mediating conflict.

You would make a good counselor, salesperson, politician, or business person.

8:54 am - little suprises - well timed
I was snowing mixed with freezing rain last night BUT I had a pleasant surprise when I went into the super market. Clemintine tangerenes, my favorite fruit, are back on the shelves. I bought a box imported from Spain and didn't mind the snow/ice. bad weather is a small price to pay for my favorite fruit.

Your Sensuality Score is: 90%

You taste, smell, feel, see, and hear more strongly than most people.

Even the smallest sensual act can be quite divine for you.

You are a hedonist. You like to experience it all... whether it's food, art, music, or sex.

If you're not careful, you're apt to overindulge or get addicted to a certain pleasure.

8:48 am - Tuesday ceili
My regular dance partner couldn't make it last night. I thought that would mean I'd be sitting out most of the sets all evening. Wrong. There were allot of new faces there last night and also regulars who also didn't have their usual partners with them.

I got to dance every set. all 2 plus hours.

It was good practice for me. Dancing with different partners of varing skills, ages, and heights mades one a better dancer. Having to adjust my step to the other persons size and skill level is something other dislike but I enjoy. One lady was only about 4'4" another was 6 feet. One was an accomplished dancer. Another could dance but had never done Irish dancing. Yet another had never been on a dance floor in her life.

You feel comfortable and at peace in nature. You identify with Native Americans.

You are a truly helpful and giving person. You like to lend a hand.

And while you do your best to do the right thing, people haven't always been kind back to you.

You Are Very Approachable

You can talk to anyone, and it shows. People are eager to start conversations with you.

You are open and friendly. You are willing to connect with almost anyone.

While it's great to be approachable, there is such a thing as too approachable.

Eventually someone will try to take advantage of you. Don't be afraid to say no or end an awkward conversation.

2:48 pm - More dancing
Our performing troupe entertained at the Heinz History Center this weekend. We were on both saturday and Sunday. The center was having an ethnic weekend.

Tuesday was my weekly dancing at the Harp & Fiddle.

If you want to see irish dancing you can go to YouTube and type in "ceili308"
There are clips of various dances posted by a friend of mine in Virginia. I'm not in any of the clips but I do know may of the folks who are.

7:59 pm - addition to my last post
I have mixed emotions about my current job. i like the fact that it is easy and I don't have to supervise anyone.
But part of me does miss the challenges of my previous career. I miss traveling allot. I truely enjoy going to anywhere I've never been. Small town or major city, I love them all.

9:10 am - Since I went MIA
After retiring from the Federal Government, I moved to Pittsburgh, PA. my wife's home town. It wouldn't have been my first choice but I do know Pittsburgh. I went to college here many years ago. My oldest son lives here too.

Things were tough for awhile as I had two homes because the housing market tanked. But I finally sold the house in Virginia.

The place I'm in now was built in 1910 and was restored about five years ago. I'm just outside the city limits but I'm exactly six miles from downtown. I'll post photos of the house on flicker eventually.

Things were tight when I was juggling two houses so I went back to work. I was substitute teaching but it became obvious there wasn't much of a chance of getting a full time teaching job. I took the civil service exams for the State of Pennsylvania and was hired as a management analyst in Nov of 07. Because of my age, I'll be able to retire again after working for the State for five years. I work in downtown Pittsburgh. A city bus stops in front of the house and drops me off three blocks from the office. I have one year under my belt and four to go. I doubt I'll stay any longer than necessary to retire. It is a job not a career.

My health has improved dramatically since I had the discs replaced in my neck. My mobility has returned. I'm still in constant pain from the discs they didn't fix. The top two discs are too close to the brain to risk operating. BUT I'm sooo much better than before. The way I explain it is, "It is like having a constant low grade sinus headache but not caring because I used to have a migraine 24/7."

My mobility has allowed me to resume dancing. The dancing has allowed me to drop over 70 pounds since the operation. I now weigh three pounds more than I did the day I graduated high school.

more later

I've posted photos of my irish dancing at flickr. My handle is davidjsr22015.
I've lost allot of weight by dancing. I didn't realize how noticable it was until I compared my pics from the St. Patty's day parade in March with the Irish Festival in Septmeber.

1:08 pm - Dancing fool
For over a year now I've been envolved with Irish Set dancing, or Ceili in Pittsburgh. If you saw ceili and set dancing you would know where square dancing came from.

I belong to the Pittsburgh Ceili Club as well as the clubs performance troupe. I dance every Tuesday night at a local pub. Every Wednesday night is practice for the troupe at yet another pub. There are also monthly ceilis on the first Friday and second Saturday of each month.

The troupe performs periodically at festivals and we will be on stage twice this weekend at the Heinz Histiry Center.

Last St. patrick's day we danced the entire length of the city's parade. We will do so again next year.

12:21 pm - Finally retired, for now
I offically ended my over 31 years with the Defense Department on September 2nd. Since then, I've been running non-stop and need a retirement from retirement. Long stories short:

I've been spending more time with my dad since mom died. It is a 3 hour trip to his house so the high price of gas has been a royal pain.

I've started a class in Spanish to be able to use verbs and not just nouns.

I've started back with Irish Ceili and Set dancing. Ceili is the 'advance and retire gropu dancing similiar to line dancing. Sets are more like other Eueropean folk dancing. 4 couples dance with their parents and each other in a small space. Both are very physical and have helped me lose 20 pounds since I was operated on in May.

Tonight wil be my first full attempt at Swing dancing since my operation. It has been awhile so I'm going early to take advantage of the free lesson. It never hurts to relearn the basics. Triple step, triple step, rock step. Besides the band tonight is excellent and worth the price even if I wasn't dancing.

I just took a TB test. I'm applying to be a substitute teacher in both Virginia and Delaware. I live in VA and dad is in DE. I'd like to spend full weeks at dad's and being on the substitute list in both places would allow me to suplement my retirement.

8:56 pm - retirement is just around the corner
I'm down to less that two weeks before I retire. On Monday, I attended my last meeting I will ever have to sit through in the Pentagon. I've always hated having to go to the Pentagon. It is a very big, cold, and colorless building. The only part of the building of any use is the courtyard in the center.

It was liberating when I left the building. I used my access card for the last time and enjoyed stopping by the security office to surrender by badge.

From now on, the Pentagon is just another Metro ( D.C. 's subway) stop that I don't ever use.

I've enjoyed my 31 years and 4 months of Federal Service ( combined military and civil service) BUT I won't miss it. Not even a little bit.

7:39 pm - Strange day in NYNY, or was it the Twilight Zone
I visited friends in Stanford CT this weekend. On Saturday, we went into Manahatten. As hard as this is to believe the place was empty. Well not empty, but I've never been to the City when there were so few people.

It is hard to believe. At least 90% of the cabs on 5th Ave were empty. We ate lunch near the Lincoln Center. The place is at the corner of W62nd and Colunbus Ave. Rosa Mexacana is usually jammed. Before yesterday, I always had to wait for a table. But we had the place nearly to ourselves. We sat at the street corner and during lunch not a SINGLE car or truck traveled on W62nd. Only a few were on Columbus the whole time we were there.

August is always a slow month in the Big Apple but yesterday was the Twilight Zone. I don't know if people have cancelled vacation because of the fear of terrorism or if New Yorkers deciede to hide inside but it was a strange and disquiteing day.

Grand Central Station was only half full. There were not lines in the food court. You could actually count the number of people in the main concourse. STRANGE!!!!
