Arsenal are lining up a bid for Didier Drogba

    Arsenal try to sign Drogba

The Transfer Rumours And Gossip writers are reporting on a mad approach from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger for ex Chelsea forward Didier Drogba.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is facing a huge backlash from the supporters at The Emirates, as the North London team continue to show no killer instinct in the final third of the pitch.  Robin Van Persie was sold to bitter rivals Manchester United during the Summer, leaving Arsenal short upfront.  As if the fact that Robin Van Persie departed Arsenal was not bad enough...that he went to join Manchester United...the real punch in the stomach for all Arsenal supporters must have been the reason as to why RVP went, as he claimed after his leaving.  Robin Van Persie and the Arsenal management had differing ideas as to the correct way to move the club forward.  This Arsenal management included first team boss Arsene Wenger, and it became obvious to RVP that Arsenal were a small time club that were not going anywhere.  Hence why RVP refused to sign a new contract and shackle himself to a club on the way down.

Now Arsenal are searching for fire power.  They bought Podolski and Giroud in the summer, but neither is close to Robin Van Persie.  Arsene Wenger still has major striker issues and did not solve this issue in the Summer.  Now reports have surfaced linking Arsenal to former Chelsea attacker Didier Drogba.

Drogba left the West London team at the start of the Summer to move to Chinese team Shanghai Shenhua.  This was seen as a purely money motivated deal for a player at the end of his days.  Drogba is 34 years old now and has played at the top level in the Premier League for a large portion of his glittering career.  He has won lots of silverware and featured heavily in everything that Chelsea did well.  So why shouldnt he have one last pay day?  In China, he could link up with old friend and colleague Nicolas Anelka.  He would be a big fish in a small pond (in a footballing sense) and enjoy the fame and attention in the twilight of his playing career.  No one can begrudge Drogba of that.

However, all has not been very well at Shanghai Shenhua lately.  Both Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka have been drawn into a board room power struggle, and it appears that wages are no longer being paid.  The retirement dream that Drogba did have has turned into a nightmare.  However, surely life there would be better than at Arsenal, for a former Chelsea player?

AVB and Lloris to have peace talks

Lloris and Spurs in crisis talks

The title is highly dramatic, but it seems that relations with AVB and new signing Lloris have reached dangerous levels....low levels, that is!  The French international has not even started a game for Tottenham Hotspur yet, but is already quoted to be very unhappy.  Numerous Transfer Rumours And Gossip columns have been featuring such stories since Saturday 1st September.

Lloris was not registered in time to play in Spurs match with Norwich City, so Brad Friedel was first choice keeper.  Friedel had an amazing game, making a lot of top saves that kept Spurs in the match.  The following day's papers were criticising AVB and Spurs for ever thinking about replacing Friedel, and saying that there was no chance the USA keeper should be dropped, as he had not done anything wrong.  Whether AVB felt the public pressure, or he genuinely agreed with the press before they went on sale, his timing could not be poorer with what he said next.  He made it completely clear that Lloris would have to fight for his spot within the Spurs starting side, and that Friedel was his present number one choice.

Now, there is really nothing wrong with what AVB said.  Every single player in every single side should realise that they must fight for their starting place in the first eleven, be it Premier League or Sunday league.  No football manager should ever select a starting side that is not the best eleven he has ready, based on their current form as individuals.  No one player should ever expect to be ushered into a side ahead of any other player, without first proving their worth and that they are a better player, at that particular time, than the player they are replacing.  Therefore, there is actually nothing at all wrong with what AVB said.  However, his timing was poor and it is clear to see how the fans and Lloris may conclude that the statement he made was not of his own doing.  Having said that, Didier Deschamps has jumped into the situation, uninvited, and started stirring the pot like a professional.  In my humble opinion, this is merely a small situation that has been blown out of all proportion.  Maybe there is very little else to report at the minute, hence why this bore seems to be getting so much air time?  It needs resolving, and fast.  If Lloris is the kind of player that can breeze into Spurs and think he can replace super Brad Friedel, without having to prove his worth, then he is NOT the kind of player that the Spurs fans want to have at White Hart Lane.  More to the point, it also feels a lot like history repeating itself for AVB.  Is this not the kind of scenario that dogged him at Chelsea and ultimately caused his demise?  Let us hope he has learnt from those dark days, and can solve this issue far quicker.

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are in a race to sign Lopez

Adrian Lopez to choose between Spurs and Arsenal

Although the Summer transfer window has closed, the Transfer Rumours And Gossip pages continue to run stories revolving around the Premier League, and unsurprisingly, Tottenham Hotspur.  The latest news concerns Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez, who is now not sure whether to pen a new contract at his current team, or hold on for follow up talks from Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.  Both Premier League teams were strongly linked to the Spanish attacker prior to the window closing.

Every time a transfer window shuts, the stories surrounding the next window starts.  In this case, there have been numerous reports already, about players missed during the Summer that may well be confirmed as transfers in the January window.  Tottenham Hotspur were one of the most busy Premier League sides during the Summer, but failed to sort two of their biggest problems.  The first issue was developed when Luka Modric was allowed to depart White Hart Lane, and no clear replacement was drafted in.  Spurs were in discussions with Joao Moutinho at the very last moment, but the players third party ownership made the deal fail.  Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey were added to the THFC squad, but neither player plays in such a similar way to Modric.  The second serious issue with the Spurs transfers over the Summer was the failure to strengthen the front line, other than adding Emmanuel Adebayor, on a permanent contract.  Spurs were linked to so many forwards from around the World.  Damaio was seen as the main target for THFC and AVB, but for the fifth transfer window running, the player turned down Tottenham's grasp.

Arsenal also suffered similar problems during the window.  Robin Van persie and Alex Song both left Arsenal.  However, Arsenal did manage to make the additions of Santi Cazorla, Giroud and Podolski.  The biggest problem at The Emirates looks to be that Theo Walcott looks likely to leave in January, and neither Giroud or Podolski can come close to filling that void.  Arsene Wenger is still in real need of a qualified striker, and Adrian Lopez may just fit the bill.

It seems that a straight race for the players signature could well be on.  It is a race between the two North London clubs to see who secures the players signature after Christmas.

Manchester United want to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo

    Man Utd look to Ronaldo

There have been reports surrounding the happiness of Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid since the Summer transfer window closed, and now it seems that Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, has asked the Old Trafford board to go and get the player and bring him to Manchester.

The latest Transfer Rumours And Gossip columns have been dominated by this rumour since it surfaced.  Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be unhappy, after the tax bracket updates in Spain have left him with the possibilty of paying 52% of his salary to the taxman.  Ronaldo is keen to sign a new deal at The Bernabeu, the details of which are unknown at this point.  However, it is thought that the player has sought advice from his financial people and that the new deal he is after must have some thing to do with the recent tax bracket changes within Spain.  Whether Cristiano Ronaldo is after a higher salary is not known at this point.  Whatever the reason or details of the supposed new deal, Real Madrid are less than keen to co-operate, it would seem.  This refusal to enter talks has left Ronaldo feeling angry.  It was obvious to see, during the Real Madrid win over Granada.  Ronaldo netted twice during that match, but did not celebrate in his normal way.  He was making a clear statement, in front of a ground full of adoring supporters and a TV audience from around the globe.  Many viewers would have seen the lack of enjoyment that Ronaldo took from that pair of goals, and started wondering why.  The same can be said of the Real Madrid supporters inside the ground.  It was obvious to see that there was an issue.  In addition to the quiet celebrations, Ronaldo actually said after the game that he was not happy at the moment, hence why he did not celebrate in the usual way.  So there could really be no doubt after that.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is now dead set on bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, to re-kindle the relationship that saw the player grow from wimpy winger into the world's best centre forward.  A Cristiano Ronaldo move back to Manchester United could be just what the team needs to push them beyond the Manchester City challange.  I am sure Ronaldo would be up for helping his old boss back to the top of the pile in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur mount a bid for Ganso

Spurs to move for Ganso after missing Moutinho

So Tottenham Hotspur may have failed on signing Moutinho in the Summer transfer window, but attentions are now being re-focussed on Santos playmaker Ganso, according to today's Transfer Rumours And Gossip pages.

Spurs were very interested in the Brazilian wonderkid earlier in the year, but AVB decided to look towards Moutinho as his first choice Modric replacement. However, the last minute bid to land Moutinho failed, due to the third party ownership that the player has.  Everything was agreed as far as transfer fees and personal terms between Porto, Spurs and Moutinho...but the third party did not sanction the deal, causing it to stall at the final hurdle.  The EPL had sanctioned an extension to the transfer window too, so Spurs could iron out the finer points.  This is unprecedented, and caused quite a stir.  The fact that Spurs then failed to complete the deal seems to have rubbed salt into the wound.

Ganso has been a revelation at Santos.  He has been held aloft as THE future of the Brazilian midfield.  Considering the quality of youth players that have emerged in the last few years, that is quite the compliment.  Many big name teams have shown similar interest to Spurs, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Inter Milan and Juventus.  The fact that he may be available for as little as £8 million is certain to be a factor in attracting extra attention to the player.  In this day and age, Ganso would not look out of place with a £30 million price tag around his neck!  The Santos President has stated that Ganso is worth four times the amount that people are suggesting he could be sold for, so it looks certain that a feeding frenzy may ensue as the January window approaches.

Falcao will remain Atletico for CFC or MCFC

Falcao wants to stay at Atletico Madrid

He is the hottest property in the world of football right now, and for good reason.  Falcao is on fire at Atletico Madrid, scoring goals for fun.  It is little wonder that the Transfer Rumours And Gossip columns have been dominated by Falcao for the majority of the Summer transfer window, and that Manchester City and Chelsea have shown major interest in the Colombian hitman.

Falcao awoke the world to his outstanding abilities during the European Super Cup Final, when he single handedly put a strong Chelsea side to the sword with a stunning first half hat-trick.  In a game where £50 million Fernando Torres did not manage a single shot on target, Falcao displayed the kind of talent that opitimises the very reasons why those in the know have been signalling his skills for some time now.  For some unknown reason, Falcao has been less in the spotlight than Edinson Cavani at Napoli.  Maybe this is down to the success that Napoli had last season and the TV footage of the Italian sides progress in the Champions League.  Atletico Madrid did have their own successes, but not so in front of worldwide TV audiences.  However, one single, unstoppable display from Falcao has thrown his profile into the orbit...and, true to form, forced mega rich sides Manchester City and Chelsea to sit up and take real interest in buying the Atletico Madrid striker.

The one issue stopping Chelsea or Manchester City signing Falcao is the player himself.  Falcao has pledged his allegiance to Atletico Madrid and stated that he does not want to leave the La Liga side.  Speaking on his Twitter account, Falcao stated

"Just so you are clear: My dream is to continue to win titles with Atletico and help Colombia qualify for the World Cup."

A pretty clear sign that Falcao will not be featuring in the Premier League anytime soon.  Although, how many times have we heard something like this before?

Manchester United ready to sell Nani to Zenit St Petersburg for £25 million

Nani to Zenit for £25 million

There has been rumour surrounding his future at Old Trafford for a long time now, but it looks that Nani may well be plying his trade in the East from Friday, as Zenit have made an approach to Manchester United in a deal worth £25 million.

It seems that Nani has fallen out of favour with Sir Alex Ferguson, and that is never a sign of a players long term future being at Old Trafford.  There was rumour of the player joining Tottenham Hotspur before the Summer transfer window slammed shut, and rumours that other Premier League teams had shown an interest in the Portuguese winger.  Nani was on the Tottenham Hotspur radar, along with Anderson, before they signed for Manchester United.

Zenit have been on a spending splurge this Summer, and have already secured the services of Hulk and Alex Witsel.  Both players were playing in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, for Porto and Benfica respectively.  Hulk had been linked to mega money moves to the English Premier League, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham all in the mix.  The main issue blocking a move revolved around the third party ownership of the player.  In the exact same way that Moutinho was blocked moving to Tottenham, Hulk was deemed as too difficult a transfer target to make a move possible.  However, Zenit seem to have money to burn, and have negotiated a deal said to be worth over £50 million for the Brazilian wide man.  If Zenit were to buy Nani, their's would be a midfield to rival any on the planet.  Maybe there will be more spending to come from the Russian side.

Del Piero prefers Sydney FC instead of Liverpool FC

Del Piero picks AFC Sydney over Liverpool

Things seem to be going from bad to worse for Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, as Italian legend Del Piero chooses a move to Sydney instead of Liverpool, according to the latest Transfer Rumours And Gossip pages.

Del Piero has been a star of Italian football for the large part of the last 10 years, and has spent his entire career as a Juventus player.  He has won a lot of silverware in that time and played a massive role in any success that Juventus have enjoyed.  He has also been a linchpin in the Italian national team and some amazing performances have seen him promoted to superstar status.  Del Piero was classed as a god long before Messi and Ronaldo came on the scene.  However, at the age of 37, Del Piero has lost the legs needed to feature in Serie A.  A move away from Juventus was inevitable at some stage, and now that time has come.

Liverpool have struggled during the Summer transfer window, releasing Andy Carroll to West Ham on a season long loan but failing to replace him with anyone.  Brendan Rodgers missed out on Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey, who both joined Tottenham.  Liverpool were reportedly considering a pay-as-you-play offer for out of contract Michael Owen, as a total last resort option.  However, the delays from the Anfield end saw them miss out to Tony Pulis, as Michael Owen was confirmed a Stoke City player yesterday.  So, where did Liverpool turn to at this stage?  Well, it appeared that signing Del Piero was their only option for an additional striker.  Some may argue this was clutching at straws...well, just to add insult to injury, Del Piero has elected to finish his playing days in the Australian A League as a Sydney FC player instead of joining Liverpool.  The signing cost Sydney FC $2 Million (Australian dollars).  This is the biggest transfer in any footballing code in Australian history (Aussie rules football, Rugby League and Soccer).  To be honest, I can see why Del Piero may have chosen sunny New South Wales over dreary Liverpool, but this still has to be a huge slap in the face for Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool.  The worst start to a season in well over 50 years, two first team strikers....and Del Piero snubs the side, preferring to play in the A League.  Got to hurt!

Tottenham Hotspur held by Norwich City

Spurs are held by Norwich as West Brom beat Everton

The Premier League Results are in and there were a few upsets amongst them.  Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 1.1 draw at home to Norwich City, as West Brom beat in form Everton 2.0 at The Hawthorns.

Tottenham Hotspur manager AVB is already under a lot of pressure at White Hart Lane, without a win in his first two games in the English Premier League.  Spurs had a disappointing journey to Newcastle United on the opening day of the season, losing 2.1 after beating their hosts for large chunks of the game.  Last week Spurs were held at home to West Brom.  The AVB system was seemingly faultering before it had got going.  There was no doubt that Tottenham needed a win today at home to Norwich City, and spent large parts of the game on the up.  Moussa Dembele got a goal on his Tottenham debut and the North London team seemed to have the upper hand and the game all but won, until ex Leeds United player Snodgrass equalised for the visitors, rescuing a point for Chris Hughtons club.  Norwich City left White Hart Lane by far the happier of the two sides, and the pressure mounts even further on the new Spurs boss AVB.

West Brom continued their excellant start to the season with a 2.0 win over in form Everton at The Hawthorns.  Both Everton and West Brom came into this game with 100% records so far this campaign.  Something had to give.  It was West Brom who marched on and kept their perfect record, as Shane Long scored first for the Baggies, with Gareth McAuley sealing the 2.0 victory for the Midlanders.  Steve Clarke can be extremely happy with his first managerial post, carrying on from where England boss Roy Hodgson left off.

Van Der Vaart completes the move to Hamburg

Van Der Vaart completes Hamburg move

The Transfer Rumours And Gossip columns are updating frantically, as more info on the last day of the Summer Transfer Window comes to light.  Van Der Vaart finally makes a move back to Hamburg, Manchester City buy Maicon and Rennes confirm that M'Vila is NOT leaving the French club.

The Van Der Vaart move has been in the pipeline since AVB took over at Tottenham Hotspur, and has been on and off ever since.  Rafa Van Der Vaart is like a legend at Hamburg and the German club have made him their main target for this Summer.  It all seemed very unlikely to occur, after Van Der Vaart stated his allegiance to Spurs soon after a meeting with AVB.  Rafa Van Der Vaart is a legend at White Hart Lane, and has always played with his heart on his shirtsleeve at The Lane.  Van Der Vaart will go down in the THFC history books as one of the all time best signings, when he moved from Real Madrid for only £8 million on the last day of the transfer window!  History repeating here for Van Der Vaart.

Manchester City have created a huge shock by buying Brazilian fullback Maicon from Inter Milan.  Football fans may recall Maicon as the Inter Milan wing back that Gareth Bale beat time after time, as he single handedly got Spurs back into the Champions League match with an outstanding hat-trick in the San Siro.  However, apart from that complete mugging, Maicon has had an amazing career at the very top levels of the game.  This signing will no doubt see Manchester City strengthened even more and may well see Maicon end his career in the English Premier League.

Bad news for Tottenham and Arsenal, as Rennes state that defensive midfielder Yann M'Vila is not leaving the French team at all.

Lloris and Clint Dempsey make the switch to Spurs

Spurs sign Dempsey and Lloris but miss Moutinho

So the Transfer Rumours And Gossip pages were sent into overdrive for the past few hours, and Tottenham Hotspur kept everyone busier than any other club, completing the signings of Lloris and Clint Dempsey.  However, not all was well, as Spurs appear to have missed out on the capture of Porto playmaker Joao Moutinho.

Spurs have been very active during the Summer transfer window, with AVB and Daniel Levy travelling to the four corners of the globe in search of the talent that will strengthen the Spurs squad.  Ironically, it was teams within a 300 mile radius that provided the majoriity of the successful Spurs purchases.  Gylfi Sigurdsson was signed early from Swansea City and Moussa Dembele followed from Fulham, with Emmanuel Adebayor joining on a permanent basis from Manchester City.

In the closing hours of the transfer window, Spurs completed two additional signings...one that had been on the cards all Summer, and a second that came as a total surprise to everyone in the game.  The first was Lyon Goalkeeper Lloris, the France number one.  Tottenham Hotspur had been tracking his progress for quite some time and AVB has been a long term fan of the French stopper.  Spurs see Lloris as the natural successor to Brad Friedel.

The second signing, that no one saw coming, was the capture of USA striker Clint Dempsey from Fulham.  Dempsey had an amazing season last term, and caused alot of interest from big name clubs across the planet.  Clint Dempsey caused something of a stir at Fulham when he effectively went on strike earlier this month, cliamed to be as a way of forcing a move to Liverpool.  However, it was Spurs all along that Dempsey was holding out for....and now he has the move he wanted.

Unfortunately for Spurs, Joao Moutinho did not complete the move that every Spurs fan was hoping would happen since Euro 2012.  Maybe January Mr Levy?

Joey Barton will not switch to Marseille

Joey Barton Marseille move is off

He is a player with a particularly colourful history, and no doubt future, who has never failed to entertain.  Joey Barton will NOT make the switch from QPR to Marseille, according to the latest Transfer Rumours And Gossip writers.

Unfortunately for Joey Barton, this will mean he will stay at QPR and have to serve his 12 match ban, following his sending off against Manchester City during the final day of last season.  It was not just for the red card, but for the behaviour that got him that red card.  It can be said that Joey Barton never does do anything by halves.

The sad thing about Joey Barton and his career to date is that all the circus shenanigans that have gone on around him have massively overshadowed what he can actually do on the pitch.  There was a brief period, during his early career, where his abilities were starting to show through and no drama had occurred for a while.  Joey Barton was producing on the pitch, and he was linked to a role within the England set up at the time.  This was simply a flash in the pan however, as in true Joey Barton fashion, he did something to block that opportunity...and the chance had gone.  It is a crying shame to watch a player that had such potential and ability throw it all away by acting like an idiot on a regular basis.  For players that never actually made the big time, that did not get the lucky breaks that are needed to sign professional papers, players like Joey Barton are the definition of frustration.  He had such talent, and he has wasted it to this point.  Time is running out for Joey Barton now.  At 29, he is into the latter stages of his playing career, and what are we all going to remember him by?  His goals?  His assists?  His leadership qualities?  His team spirit, and putting his body on the line for the cause?  Or for stubbing cigars out in youth players eyes?  What a waste.

Sunderland are close to buying Clint Dempsey

Sunderland close to signing Clint Dempsey

The Transfer Rumours And Gossip writers are continually reporting on the evolution of the Clint Dempsey story at Fulham.  Sunderland are now involved.  For those of us who have watched Clint Dempsey playing for Fulham over the past two seasons, the current scenario at Craven Cottage would come as somewhat of a shock.  Clint Dempsey is effectively on strike, refusing to play again for Fulham, in an attempt to force the club to complete a sale before the Summer window shuts at 11pm on Friday.  However, it is Sunderland that now lead the race for his signature, not Liverpool.

Martin Jol has worked wonders at Fulham since his appointment.  Fulham have developed a solid core and knock the ball around very well.  However, it is the emergence of Clint Dempsey as a true goal scorer that surely must be the highlight of Martin Jol's reign at Craven Cottage so far.  However, things have turned sour in West London between the two.  Martin Jol is not the type of manager that will buckle to player pressure.  He is a very hard manager and runs his side in an extremely structured fashion, built on mutual respect between players and coaching staff.  It appears that Clint Dempsey may have lost his respect for Martin Jol, his colleagues and Fulham FC.  In turn, it seems that everyone at the club has lost their repsect for Clint Dempsey...and a large portion of those mutuals that used to look to him as a model prefoessional.  Clint Dempsey will not come out of this in as positive a light as he went in, that is the only certainty.

The Clint Dempsey scenario is a real shame, as the player is, without question, the greatest American to play in the Premier League.  He has scored more goals than anyone had predicted and generally from an attacking midfield position.  If he does get a move away from Craven Cottage, it will be interesting to see how he fares under different management and around different team mates.  However, his current behaviour will put off a few clubs that were previousley interested, that is for sure.  And if Clint Dempsey eventually made the move to Sunderland, would that really be a step forward from Fulham?

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a price for Luka Modric to join Real

Spurs agree deal to sell Modric to Real Madrid

The Transfer Rumours And Gossip saga that everyone at Tottenham Hotspur has got bored of is now actually at a conclusion, as Spurs agree a price to sell Luka Modric to Real Madrid.

It is a transfer that has rolled on and on for well past a year now, and the memory of Luka Modric has been ruined beyond the point of any repair.  Last Summer, Luka Modric began showing his real colours, after an attempt to buy him by Chelsea.  Both Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy tried very hard to stop the player departing Tottenham Hotspur, but every Spurs supporter caught a sight of the diva that Luka Modric could be.  However, all was momentarily forgotten, if not totally forgiven, and Spurs started the season as a unit.  However, the disruption to pre season was clear to see, as Spurs got battered by Manchester City and Manchester United.

This Summer has seen the genuine Luka Modric emerge, and it has not been a pretty sight.  The Croatian refused to report for a pre-season tour of the United States and did all he could to rock the build up to the new Premier League campaign, in an attempt to get his "dream" move to Real Madrid.  However, both AVB and Daniel Levy have held firm and it started to look like Luka Modric may be told to stay at White Hart Lane until at least January.

However, Tottenham Hotspur have today confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Real Madrid, for a price in the £30 million bracket.  In addition to the sale of Modric, Spurs have agreed an ongoing business partnership with Real Madrid, in a player development and trading capacity.  This is the start of exciting times for all Tottenham Hotspur fans.

Tottenham Hotspur have made a enquiry for M'Vila

    Spurs make offer for M'Vila

At last, the Modric saga is at an end and Tottenham Hotspur can finally move on and sign better players.  Spurs boss AVB is not wasting any time and has bid on Rennes midfielder M'Vila, so say today's Transfer Rumours And Gossip writers.

M'Vila is a player that a group of top clubs have been heavily linked with over this Summer transfer window, none more so than bitter North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.  The early talk was that Arsene Wenger was keen to bring M'Vila to The Emirates long before Alex Song moved to Barcelona.  It was only when M'Vila himself stated that he would prefer a move to Spurs, that Arsenal apparantly distanced themselves from the player, claiming they were not really interested in his services.  Since then, both clubs have experienced changes, with Alex Song leaving Arsenal and Luka Modric finally signing for Real Madrid, meaning the fight to sign M'Vila is well and truelly back on.  And it would appear that AVB is determined to cross the line first for Spurs, with a £12.7 million offer plus extra add ons.

Rennes have responded to Tottenham's written offer by insisting on face to face discussions, suggesting there is a very big possibility of the deal going through very fast.  It is understood that there is another Premier League side that have made an official offer, but it is unclear at this stage whether that is Arsenal or not.

AVB is set to spend £50 million before window shuts

Spurs to spend £50 million before window shuts

The Luka Modric story is finally over, and Tottenham Hotspur boss AVB is set to spend big on Moutinho and Willian before the Summer transfer window slams shut, according the today's Transfer Rumours And Gossip pages.

In customary Tottenham Hotspur style, the club has pushed the boundaries again by waiting until the last minute to attempt conclusions to a number of transfer options that have been running all Summer.  AVB has already offered £12.7 million for Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila and had a bid for Willian turned down by Shaktar Donetsk.  However, it is thought that Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy is set to pull out all the stops to make the signings of Moutinho, Willian and M'Vila before time is out.

Tottenham Hotspur seem set to sort the midfield issue in the first instance, with Moussa Dembele also suposedly on the radar as a highly realistic signing.  There are still problems surrounding another forward, but very little time appears to be getting paid to this area, with Goalkeepers being next on the hit list.  Hugo Lloris and Maarten Stekelenberg are both seriously linked to Spurs and bids can be expected to go in for these players.  A number of stories have circulated surrounding England youth keeper and Team GB number one Jack Butland, but it looks like Lloris is the number one choice to eventually replace Brad Friedel.

Whatever comes to fruition, expect to see a number of new faces at White Hart Lane in the very near future.

QPR are near to signing Michael Dawson

QPR bid for Spurs defender Dawson

It is a report that will break the heart of any Spurs fan, but the sad truth that is dominating the Transfer Rumours And Gossip columns revolves around a transfer for Michael Dawson from Tottenham Hotspur to QPR.

Michael Dawson is a legitimate, bona fide Spurs hero.  The man will go down in Tottenham Hotspur history as a legend of the modern game.  Dawson gave 100% every single time he stepped onto a football pitch in a THFC shirt.  Regardless of the opposition, the conditions, the location, the team mates he was playing alongside...Dawson would constantly put his body on the line and give his entire everything for the cause.  Michael Dawson is the Spurs John Terry, without the scandel.

When Michael Dawson and Ledley King were both fit and firing on all cylinders, there was not a front line that could get anywhere close to them.  The two men worked so well together and both gave their lot for the team.  Players like these do not come along very often, and Spurs were lucky enough to have two in the same team...in the heart of the defence!  Unfortuntaely for Tottenham Hotspur and their fans, there were very few times when both were fit and well enough to play alongside one another.

Earlier this year, Ledley King announced his retirement from the first team, due to his long running struggle with cruiciate knee cartlidge problems.  Now, it seems, Michael Dawson may leave too, merely a week after AVB named Dawson as club captain.  It makes very little sense, and is a very sad time for fans at White Hart Lane.  I am sure they hope the QPR fans will appreciate what a true hero they are getting.

Manchester United have an offer dismissed for Moussa Dembele

Man Utd have their "joke" offer for Dembele rejected by Fulham

He is a player that set Craven Cottage alight last season with a number of masterful displays across the Fulham midfield, but the Transfer Rumours And Gossip journalists are today reporting on a story linking Moussa Dembele with a move to Manchester United.  Or should that be, an offer of a move that Fulham have interpretted as a joke and derogatory.

It is no secret that a group of clubs across Europe have been showing a keen interest in the Belgian international, following on from his amazing displays last season.  Inter Milan, Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have all been sniffing around the player.  However, it is an offer from Manchester United that has got Fulham boss Martin Jol upset.  The offer, said to be lower than £5 million, has been disregarded by Fulham as a "very low" bid for a player that many assume is worth well over the £15 million mark.  The Fulham hierarchy are upset at such a derogatory bid, as they interpret it as a mind game, designed to make the player hanker for a move and thus unsettle him.  In an age of player power, it is a very clever trick, if that is indeed what Manchester United are trying to do.  The theory being that the offer is far lower than Manchester United would expect to be accepted.  The bid for the player is made public, and the player himself gets wind and potentially begins considering his options.  If the player begins to fancy the idea of a move, he can make a fuss and demand a switch.  The players current club is then left with a player who decides he wants a move and trys to force a deal, meaning his current club has the option of offloading a player that no longers wants to be there, for a reduced fee for a quick sale.  Or they attempt to retain a player that clearly does not want to be there anymore, thus risking upsetting the rest of the squad.  Either way, the only winner stands to be the potential new club, and all because they planted a seed.

Martin Jol has stated that Moussa Dembele is happy to continue his career at Fulham, and such a snide move will never work.  However, this may be a deflective tactic from Jol himself.  There is clearly an issue at Fulham with Clint Dempsey, and many believe it may be a very similar situation as described above.  The club planting seeds is unknown at present, but the issue is said to be the same.  And look at the scenario surrounding Luka Modric, that has rolled on for over a year now.

Unfortunately, player power IS an issue.  The only real way to deal with it is to stand up to the player.  They are an employee under contract.  Maybe Daniel Levy should give a class in the best ways to handle such issues.  He has done well in the Modric case, thats for sure.

    Tottenham Hotspur look to Ganso

    Spurs turn attentions to Ganso

The Luka Modric story is almost ended, but Tottenham Hotspur are still in the race for a replacement.  The Transfer Rumours And Gossip columns are rammed with news that Santos midfielder Ganso is the new target for Tottenham Hotspur.  However, the signing of the Brazil international will certainly not be plain sailing, with Porto and now Sao Paulo dead set on securing his service.

Ganso is a player that Tottenham were linked to well prior to the talk of Modric leaving began.  At that point, it was seen as a fantasy, as Modric was still at Tottenham and seemingly happy to remain.  Pundits and fans alike were considering how the two might play together and wondering on how the then manager, Harry Redknapp could adapt things to incorporate the player.  Things have evolved and developed since that time, but the one thing that remains is the total quality that Ganso brings to every team he features in.  Now Modric is definately going, there are no questions as to where and how Ganso might slot into the Spurs midfield.  At just 22 years of age, Ganso has such amazing potential to develop into the world class creative midfielder that so many commentators have already eluded to.  Every Spurs fan must be praying that AVB beats his old club Porto and Brazilian legends Sao Paulo to the signature of Ganso.  If he can, then there will be even more exciting times ahead at White Hart Lane.
