Books Well getting my room slightly more sorted now :D
I moved my bedside cabinet (guess I'm doomed to never have one [rolleyes]) and Dad and I moved the surplus bookcase from my parents' room to mine, next to my bed. It's a small one, with three shelves (albeit tall shelves). The first shelf was half full with my new books (and the 3 I got the other day in the 3 for 2- The secret History by Donna Tartt (which after reading Miffy's profile later, I discovered she likes), The Count of Monte Cristo by I think someone Dumas (Alexandre?) and Love in the Time of Cholera by someone I fogrget- Garcia? Marquez?
Anyway, I added to the shelf with books I've had for ages but not read, and then a few oldies (the two Chincoteaque books, and the set of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, of which I've only ever read TLTWATW and The Horse and His Boy or whatever it is).
I also bluetacked up the postcard that arrived yesterday I think, from tkf, and the postcard today from Mgan, along with one from my friend Gem.
Buffy videos fit nicely on the second shelf, and I guess I can put my Angel ones, my Sex and the City box set and some DVDs on the bottom. But I'm gonna have to sort everything to get it all right, as I've a big bookcase in one wardrobe, and some shelves in another wardrobe (I've got 3 wardrobes, builtin, all along one wall). It'll take a while to get everything sorted.
And Dad, I and my brother took a walk up to the Post Office, and then tried a different route home to see if it was quicker but we took the wrong road once, and the next one was a cul-de-sac, but the third one was right. Small village Liverton, though. Hopefully quieter than my old one, the only noise I hear is cars goign along the road at the bottom of our back garden, as it's 40mph or something, so you do hear them.
Wow 2 updates in 2 days I'm on a roll! (I noticed the update yesterday came 2 WEEKS after my last one... I thought it'd been longer :S) | | Wednesday, July 16th, 2003 | | 6:17 pm |
Haven't updated in God knows how long. Apathy has set in.
I've just spent my time moving boxes between the houses, moving in, wokring, helping in the Reception class of Mum's school one day, and unpacking/sorting etc.
Yesterday was my first chance to sleep in past about 8:30am, and what time do I wake up? 8:20am [rolleyes].
But yesterday was good. I had what I call a 'space cadet' day. Girlies may know it [wink]. Anyhow, I had a small stomachache- not big enough to justify taking anything for it, but little enough and achy that it was just annoying. And a lack of energy. But I met up with my friend Laura, for possibly the first time since Christmas (I think we were both busy at Easter), and we went into Exeter shopping.
Now I've actually been working (temping) a fair bit since I've been home. Adecco have actually found me work this summer ;) (beats last summer's offering of two days, which had booked as being three days [rolleyes]). In fact one of the weeks I did 28 hours :D I've managed to earn enough to pay the credit card bill, and have some left over for the remaining bills that will arrive from Italy.
So far I've only bought myself a few magazines, and some books on a 3 for 2 offer in Waterstone's (from the BBC Big Read list). I was thinking yesterday that maybe I'd get the Daredevil DVD set, as I liked the film, and it was cheaper than I'd thought it might be- Bally said £14.99 in Woolworths. However, I found the booksale in WHSmiths....
Now The Exeter branch has been lucky for me. Why this branch more than others I don't know, but I'm not complaining :D I once foudn a 99p copy of HP3, as the top of the spin was slightly wrinkled. Not enough to worry me and I can be fussy about the appearance of things, I take care of my stuff. I'd been avoiding HP, as the hype was too much, but I figured for 99p, I'd give it a try, I'd nothing to lose. And fell in love with it (mostly with Sirius and Snuffles ;) ).
I've had one or two other bargains from there too. The other week, I got The English Patient for I think 99p (if not, then £1.99).
But yesterday I hit gold....
I'd picked up 2 CDs (Charlie's Angels 1 soundtrack and a J-Lo album), and had wandered over to the reduced books. I quickly found one, and then another. I worked my way along the shelves, and foudn another- then another, another and another. Looky, another book too!! I quickly amassed a pile of them, and decided to put back the CA album to provide funds for two of the books in my arms. My friend caught up with me and went "Wow" at the books in my arms. Wandering round to the other side, a sales assistant offered me a basket, and I quickly found more books. Some I'd looked at recently, but were full price so I'd left them. Others I wanted as they were on the Big Read list. Still others looked good, but I'd never have bought them full price. But at reduced price, I was willing to give them a try. So I put back the J-Lo slbum too.
I ended up with 14 books.... full price they'd have been £96, I paid £25 (should have been £24 but the lady overcharged me £1 and I didn't notice). 75% saved!! :D:D:D:D
So added to my already long list of books to read (on the list are books I've bought but never read), are:
The Gangs of Chicago- Herbert Asbury. He wrote the book The Gangs of New York, from which the film was made.
Anil's Ghost- Michael Ondaatje (author of The English Patient
The Hobbit- J. R. R. Tolkein
Life of Pi- Yann Martel
The Biography. Graham Norton- Laid Bare- Alison Bowyer
A Series of Unfortunate Events- The Reptile Room- Lemony Snicket
This Is Serbia Calling- Matthew Collin (the tale of a courageous group of young people who kept a radio broadcast going, despite it being forbidden)
Sex and the City- Jim Smith (a guide to the episodes of the HBO series)
Mrs Dalloway- Virginia Woolf
Legally Blonde- Amanda Brown (the novel from which the film was made)
The Grapes of Wrath- John Steinback
Crime and Punishment- Fyodor Dostoevsky
The Flamboya Tree- Clara Olink Kelly
The Crimson Spell- a book tie in to the TV show Charmed, and written by F Goldsborough
I was happy, I had my bargains :D
And never let it be said I'm not ecclectic in my tastes ;) | | Tuesday, July 1st, 2003 | | 11:37 pm |
Buzzzzzzzzzz Or, I've been a busy bee.
If I've not been doing small jobs or cleaning bits at the new house etc for my parents, then I've been doing temp work. I've been doing small stuff like peeling spuds for tea, so Mum and Dad don't need to do them when they come home, or shopping, bro and I have dropped off the new house's curtains for dry cleaning, we've taken stuff out of the rafters in the garage and cleaned it, taken it to the new house etc. The other day, bro and I were at the new house, cleaning out our built in wardobes- we had to hoover them, then wash them, then we washed the walls in the dining room and kitchen so Dad can just paint them.
I got my credit card bill Wednesday morning, and also contacted the two temp agencies (Adecco and Pertemps) to see about any work available. I ended up being booked for two days doing a survey on the Park and Ride (Matford, in Exeter), for an engineering company who are doing it on behalf of Devon County Council. It started at 6:30am. And finished at 6pm. 6:30am is illegal, it doesn't exist.... Anyway, we waited around for 20 mins, then had a 10 min briefing. I then ended up sitting around for an hour before being able to get on a bus. Hey, if they're gonna payme £5 an hour, even if I'm waiting, that's fine!! I got the split shift, so ended up working 6:30am-11am (though actually phyiscally working was 8am-11am), then 3pm-6pm (actually was 5:30pm). I was asking passengers questions about which stop they were getting off at, what type of ticket they were using, where they lvied, why they were using the Park and Ride, what they liked/disliked etc. Most people got on at the city centre or at the P/R car park, and got off at those stops too. Some people got off in the industrial estate bit. A few more got on and off in the residential bit, between the industrial estate and the city centre. So you got really busy at the car park or city centre, and then could pretty much relax in between.
Anyway, I was not impressed by the split shift. Considering it was a 12.5 hour day, I earnt £37.50. Peanuts really, especially as I had to get up at 5:30am.
And yet I also did it Saturday [rolleyes]. But this one was better in that I worked 9.5 hours (actual hours worked were maybe 7? lol). The guy had been told buses started at 7am, whereas they actually start at about 7:40am.... so once again it was 8am before I even boarded a bus. I also ended up sitting in the sun chatting with the guy and a few of the other temps, for an hour or more, as we hit a quiet spell. I had two one hour breaks, which was better.
I'm doing the same job this Thursday, and if I get a split shift there will be hell to pay....
At least in my long break on Thursday, I managed to have a browse of the shops, and didn't buy anything, apart from two magazines (OK spending for me), and two books (which don't count as spending for me, as they're English translations of two books I have to study next year at uni).
Right I'm bored and it's late, so I'll update more tomorrow.
Had curry and vanilla coke tonight :D plus strawberries (I had bought Ben and Jerries ice cream but I'll have that another night). I was thinking of having a nice curry, vanilla Coke, and Ben and Jerries chocolate fudge brownie ice cream, with a film or Buffy ep.
But as I had to ring my new landlady (thought she was ringing me but oh well) at 9:30pm, there wasn't enough time really, and there were strawberries which couldn't really be left until tomorrow. So I had the curry, vanilla Coke and watched "Witch". Good old season 1 :D | | Friday, June 27th, 2003 | | 7:40 pm |
Random stuff....
Temping work- I worked a long day yesterday (6:30am to 6pm), yet was only working for 7.5 hours (a 4 hour break in the middle damnit), but at least I was only physically working for 5.5 hours. Still not a lot of money for such a long day.
I need my head examining, I'm doing the same thing tomorrow....
My mosquitoe bite marks are fading. I look less like I've got chicken pox, and my legs are getting back to their normal appearance.
I've started watching Buffy again now I'm home [up]. I watched both parts of "Welcome to the hellmouth" this week.
I managed to find two English translations of books I'll study next year at uni (obviously couldn't get the Italian versions, only at uni).
My brother and I cleaned (wiped) the wardrobes in my room, my brother's room, and my parents' room at the new house today, and wiped the walls in the dining room and kitchen, so Dad can paint them.
OK that's your lot :) | | Monday, June 23rd, 2003 | | 10:59 pm |
Home Yes I got home safely, about 11pm Saturday night. Harry Potter 5 was waiting for me :D
Moving back home was hard work, although as easy as it could have been. I had to pay €120 at Pescara for extra luggage, and then £48 at Stansted. I'd started checking in to fly from Standsted to Newquay, and the man who was checking me in filled in the slip saying I had £48 to pay. It was less excess luggage than I'd had from Pescara because well I'd stuck several kilos more in my hand luggage... oops. Anyhow, the man in the queue at the next desk along said I could have his luggage allowance, as he only had hand luggage. Woohoo- 15 free kilos, I only needed 12. So I move over, and start checking in, and the man who I'd been with came back and started arguing with my check in girl, saying I couldn't do it, he'd already filled in a slip. Git. As me and checkin in girl pointed out, he'd not filled in a boarding card for me (so in my mind, I technically wasn't his customer).
Long story short, I couldn't get away with it. But as I was paying my extra luggage, I moved some of the weight back from hand luggage to my luggage. Only about 2 kg. So no I wasn't paying for it and it was in my luggage, but I wouldn't have been paying for it if it had stayed in my hand luggage either, and it was safer to have the weight in the luggage (in the hold) than in my hand luggage right? I only moved it cos the girl I'd switched to had weighed the hand luggage of the "have my allowance" man (probably only because that's all he had), and I had a lot of hand luggage.
Since I've been home I've done some jobs at home for my parents, helped move stuf out of the loft, and into the new house. Got more to do though.... | | Thursday, June 19th, 2003 | | 10:21 am |
Long overdue update God knows what I'm doing with my time, I know a lot is spent online, but honestly, time just flies by.
I'm trying to pack. And Oh. My. God. I decided to change my bed (it was the weekend anyway), so I could put everything I needed to pack on it, and dust them first. I had a while ago, put a load of stuff in my suitcase, so there was less clutter in my room.
Anyway, come bedtime I surprisingly hadn't finished packing up my whole room, so cleared my desk, dusted it and moved everything to that. I managed the next day I think, to pack a lot of stuff, but I put most of my books in my big gym duffel bag. It's 11kg. [yikes].
Now in the past, I've been a bit over the weight in my suitcase and they've let it slide. They don't tend to weigh my hand luggage. So I think I'll be safe with heavy suitcase and hand luggage. I was planning on paying the extra for my blanket and gym bag (but with clothes in), and then post my books back. Because I'm gonna be lumbered with extra baggage costs twice, as I'm flying Pescara-Stansted, Stansted-Newquay (hell of a lot nearer my home). So instead of £4/kg, it'll end up being £8/kg.
And I've just realised the flaw in my plan.... paying extra only for my blanket and gym bag. If I'm gonna pay extra, they'll make me pay for the whole extra, not knock 10kg off and then say pay.... bugger. Any ideas? | | Friday, June 13th, 2003 | | 9:22 am |

Procrastination, baaaaaaaaad I've been putting of dealing with something for a long time. A few months. A procrastinator such as me, should not live in the land of procrastination, aka Italy. Their personal motto seems to be "pian piano", which means "slowly slowly". Hmmph Anyway, hopefully getting this thing done will not only give a kind of closure, but will shut the door on an episode last year that I have pretty much managed to get over and forget. But this will finally put it to rest. But I've taken the first step towards trying to finish it. Now I'm reliant on teachers. One teacher pushing the other into making the phone call. And hopeing it gets sorted. Current Mood: anxious | | 3:27 am |
You are bettie! You are an intelligent and passionate person. You like to cook and watch films. You have a thing for monkeys. Which WD moderator are you? brought to you by QuizillaHeee, that's cool [grin] | | Tuesday, June 10th, 2003 | | 11:26 am |
Oh and yesterday Was actually a very very good day. I was online until lunchtime, then got lunch at the mensa (cafeteria). As it was so hot, I decided to walk down to the Bensons bed shop, as they have an electronic display thing in the window, which shows the time and temperature. Just cos I was curious (and also so I could text my friends ;-) ). It was was a little further than I remembered it being [rolleyes].
30 degrees C!! that's 86 F!!
I checked a nearby edicola (news stand) for the new issue of Focus magazine which I love, but they'd not got it. So I mooched very slowly home, as when it's hot, you don't move fast ;-) . I watched some of MTV (Dismissed is hysterical, I prefer the girl choosing the guys to the other way round, as when a guy chooses between the girls, they are always catty as hell), and then went back to uni to go online.
Got home, and decided after a while to have a shower, so I'd just started, when the phone goes. The only other person in the flat was Italian- my flatmate Sara. She picked it up, and called to me, saying she thought it was for me.
So out of the shower I hop, and go to the phone, thinking it's a girl from uni who's coming to Pescara next year for her year abroad. I'd given her my number to ring (we have a landline).
And so I'm very surprised, when who do I hear, but Grace!! First of all, she sounds nothing like I expected! We had a little chat, as it was noon for her and 6pm for me. And then I had my shower. Sara must have been a bit confused by the accent, and guessed it was for me [rotflmao]
So I have my shower, quickly clean the bath (we have a shower hose on the taps, not ideal but meh), and then nipped online to tell everyone that gorgeous Grace had called me [grin]. Found she'd called Tonke too, and that Tonke was a bit down at being back home where everything was different. So I get Tonke's number, go home and cook risotto (or my version anyway), while writing a letter to Tonke, and then I ring her!
I'd even quickly looked up how to say "Hi, I'm Helen" to her (or anyone else that picked up the phone). But I presume I got her Mum, and the line was quiet to start, and I said could I speak to Tonke, but mustn't have said her name quite correctly, and I was a little flustered so only stuck to English. But when Tonke came on the phone, I told her in Dutch, my phrase :D (after we'd said hi etc in English). She managed to understand me anyhow.
So we had a nice chat, and swapped stories about drinking, and about getting your things home between different countries. And ouch her excess luggage!!
Then I rang my friend in Devon, who'd gone home that day. So we had a nice chat too.
And I settled down to continue reading a magazine article and writing down any words I didn't know, thought could be 'faux-amis', or that I was pretty sure I knew but wanted to make sure. Switched on MTV, nothing to watch. Flipped to All Music. Nothing. After a few minutes, the next programme on MTV started, it was the "Yo MTV raps" thing [sick]. Now why is it when I have to study there's good music, and a So 80s special, yet when I've got no study to do properly (well Italian revision, but that can wait), there's nothing on??
Grrrrrr
But yesterday was an excellent day. Very happy, very bouncy, very very good :D
Current Mood: Hee | | 10:49 am |
I remembered a dream too It was kinda weird, as after waking up finally this morning (I woke in the middle of the night too), I had the feeling that I'd been dreaming the dream, then continued the same dream, after waking up at like 3:45am. I also felt like I'd had the dream before.
Anyhoo.... I was a passenger in a car, and we were rounding a bend, to go up a long street. The street I recognised, it is in Wolverhampton (West Midlands). But to my left on the bend, were some grassy slopes, and some red brick ruins of buildings. Which I recognise from Exeter in Devon. :S There was also a part where I was in or watching a carnival parade. I somehow knew it was Teignmouth, in Devon. Yet it didn't look quite right. I remember something being not quite right with the scenario, but that part is fading now. These might not have been part of the dream I properly had even :S
But the dream proper, took place in a street, and in the dream I was living in a house there. At the bottom of the street, was a semi circle of houses- the street was like a long narrow U, and I live just at the end of one straight side, next to the curve. Opposite me, was a house which I think I broke into with a friend, as there was something dangerous going on in there. Suddenly I was in a bedroom, looking at something on a desk/dresser. I think there were papers or diagrams, like building plans maybe? on it, and I had to work something out. Maybe there were captives in the house, I'm forgetting. I think my companion was female. And for some reason I felt like MacGyver :S There was somethig very wrong, and I was nervous, but the adrenaline was pumping, I was having to do something. My companion left to check another room. I somehow knew there were two bedroom on that floor, and something else. And I felt like there were several storeys, yet it was a standard two storey detached house. Behind me on the floor next to the bed, was a boy I knew from school, who I've not seen since we were 13.
All of a sudden, we had to go, the owners were coming back. I knew the girl was getting out, and I had to. Now whether it was me or the boy, I don't know, I can't rememebr. But whichever of us it was, had taken off our shoes. We'd gotten one back on, but were trying to get the other back on. They were my blue Addidas pumps, which the greyish stripes. There were two pairs of shoes under the bed, but every time whoever it was tried to put the missing shoe on, they'd pick up one from the other pairs.
Next thing I knew, I was standing at the edge of my drive with my family, and some other people. The sun was shining, everything was pretty. And we were talking to some people. I must have just gotten there and walked into the middle of their conversation, and the other people asked me something, like about my studies, or year abroad or something. As I watched, the family of the dangerous house came back (I think they're a family that live on my current street). I'd gotten out just in time.
Then I was kneeling down on the grass of the house to the right of ours, with the parents there, who had a little child of maybe 3, whom I knew, but they had a new child, that was mixed race. I can't remember who I saw the father, I just knew the mother and father were on the lawn- you know how you know who a figure in a dream is but don't actually see them?. But the mother was white, so I figured she must have remarried or something, to a black man. I was playing with the new child, and there were toys on the lawn, red and blue and yellow parts, all bright.
It knocked me off kilter for a while this morning, until I got going and went to uni.... maybe it was the (initially rather strong) Baccardi and Coke I'd made myself at about midnight. I had to drink a bit, top it up with mroe Coke. It was amybe a double shot, and in a tumbler sized glass [rolleeys]. Plus I was tired as it's so hot, and so I keep waking up in the night. Plus although I'd drunk that day (Sprite and Coke and a little water), I probably should have drunk more considering it was 30 degrees C at lunchtime. On a normal day I'd be fine, maybe I was a little dehydrated.... I certainly felt a little light headed. Oops | | Monday, June 9th, 2003 | | 3:29 pm |
Things change.... I knew that. Websites come, I love them then invariably get bored with them. Very few stick as favourites. There was one site, and I thought that was it. I'd spend hours on it. Then came along another site, and that got me hooked. Site number one's interest waned a little, but I eventually lost interest in the new site, and site one resumed its position as numero uno.
Then I discovered (rediscovered I think, I'm sure I joined the Buffyguide over a year ago, but didn't stay long) Buffyguide. And for a few months, things have cruised along, with both sites being frequented by me. But for a little while, site one's appeal has been waning. The posting chat (not instant, but not posting boards like BG) has held less interest, as more RP or made up characters seem to be there. In fairness they've always been there, but not really bothered me before. But BG has been increasingly taking over in terms of time spent in the site, and has made me realise something.
I've been lurking more and more on site one, and being active more and more on BG. Site one always had to be the first window I opened, and I'd be logged in the whole time I was online. Even if I spent 90% of the time in BG, I'd refresh the chat on site one from time to time. But today, I logged out and shut the window down after only an hour. I've not even got it open now.
BG has made me realise what I'm looking for I think. I can laugh and have fun, learn new things, and debate on BG. I'm closer to people there in only a few months, than most people in site one after maybe 18 months. I've posted a birthday card and present, and several postcards to people in BG, yet only posted one package to someone from site one. I'd quite happily meet people from BG, yet there's only two people I'm close enough to (friends wise) to want to meet from site one. If someone posted something in BG, I'm pretty inclined to trust them, I've got a handle on most people and am pretty sure if they say something, it's true. I'm more sceptical with people on the other site, and yet the medium is the same, the internet.
Today I only spent one hour on site one, and refreshed the screen twice. I did the training I do there and that was the only interaction I had on it.
I'm all out of sorts :S
Current Mood: Confused but pleased | | Saturday, June 7th, 2003 | | 2:23 pm |
Update It's only taken me a week, but the tale of my weekends last week, is now up in Testing. [crazy] indeed :S
Oh and Min, if you see someone new's added you to their MSN, it's me :D | | Monday, June 2nd, 2003 | | 6:04 pm |
Silly me When I said yesterday that I'd spill about my weekend, I forgot that today is a festa, or public holiday in Italy (or Pescara anyway), so uni isn't open. I'll do it tomorrow when uni is open again and free.
Today I lounged around in my PJs until about 3pm, but during that time, I watched the end of a very very cheesy film with a footballing dog, watched music videos, and watched MacGyver hee!! Love RDA ;)
And I read a short story in French, so I can speak about it in my oral, but I don't really udnerstand it all fully, so Bally, expect a PM tomorrow, with me asking what certain phrases mean!! It'd be easier (and quicker) if I had a French-English dictionary, but I don't.... I have to use my French-Italian one, then my Italian-English one [roll eyes].
And last night it was hot/humid. So I opened the shutters a little (they're like roll blinds, very European lol) and opened the windows a bit. 4:30am I woke up, and shut them both. Thing is, I'm sleeping in a vest top and pj bottoms (rolled up to my knees, so they're cooler). And this morning, while watching TV, I realised the mozzies have bitten. My personal record before (for bites in one sitting) was 3. As I was writing to Ems, I counted 8, possibly a 9th. As I watched more TV/read French, I found more and more... my total is now 13, count 'em, 13 bites. There's 3 on my left knee, 4 on my right, one on my left lower arm, and on the inside of my lef thand (just to the right of my first finger's knuckle), one (possibly a 2nd) on my right lower arm, one on my right first finger and one on my left hip.
I'm going to go stir fry crazy trying to not scratch. I ended up scratching my right knee ones, and my knee just went pink. At elast all my knee ones are just above the knee cap. But honestly, biting my finger and by my knuckle? You couldn't find many more body spots where there's less flash/fat!! I mean legs and arms are a fairly big target in comparison.... [roll eyes]
And the thing is I'd bought a mozzie repellent. But not read the instructions, so figured I'd do that today. Found out I've bought the refill, not the actual thing. I wasn't thinking, and thought the label said rechargeable/refillable kidna thing, and it says refill. Well it looked like a little bottle that you leave the top off of, and it slowly evaporates killing the mozzies. I picked it for that reason, as the only plug socket I know of in my room is on the wall, hidden by my bed. And I haven't got a long adaptor (multi plug jobby, you have them for your computer etc... 4 or more in a row). So now I have to buy the actual thing, and they ast 45 days so I'll have 90 days protection, and I'm only here for another 18 nights [roll eyes].
Still, if I don't use it, there might not be any more of me left :S

Thank God the weekend's nearly over Cos hell has it been one weekend... some good points yesterday, several not so good points. today was meh. And I'll update tomorrow, promise. | | Friday, May 30th, 2003 | | 7:37 pm |
Hmmmph Well after typing that last entry, things felt better. Very cathartic, this Blurty stuff I guess :)
I came online for a while, nipped home to get my gym stuff, and then went. I've gone back to my old work out because when I had that I went regularly, and usually did the whole workout. Sicne I had the new, super strength one (to tone me up) I had a fortnight off for Easter, and then kinda of lost motivation when I came back, so either didn't go or only did part of the workout. This Monday I decided that as I had 6 days membership left, I'd go every day and do my old workout (bar Thursday, that's the Body Balance class I love). I went today, and before I left, checked with my favourite instructor, to see if she'd be in tomorrow. But she's not :'( she's so cute, and friendly, which is good as I tend to get intimidated by instructors. So we said bye :'(
And I went to the library at uni to pick up the English copy of the history of theatre text book that the teacher told me was in the library- it's not [madfire]. There's history of ENGLISH theatre, but not the book I wanted. So my plan of reading the whole book and making notes and being well informed has gone out of the window... now I'm going to have to try and read the flipping thing in Italian, as well as at least one of the play books (if I was Italian I'd do them all, but I'm English and human so stuff it if they're not happy).
Grrrrrrrrrrr
22 days *does happy dance*

Grrrrrrrrr Stupid day. Stupid Italians.
Today is one of those days were nothing's bad bad, it's just bad. And you feel like crying a lot. I've had two French exams, and felt like crying from boredom, and now I'm just pissed off and ready to cry. My eyes are starting to well up, but as long as I keep thinking "Don't cry", it's OK- I'll just pretend it's bad hayfever (cos they've been red before from that).
20 mins left online, then can go home and cry, get it all out, then go corpse myself at the gym.
OK I've got a plan.

You are Cyclops! You are attractive and strong, in a boy scout republican sort of way. You are set firm in your beliefs, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But often when faced with a conflicting opinion you become defensive and angry and prone to conflict. You like to be a leader, but you must acknowledge that there are some situations which others are better fit to deal with than yourself. Which X-Men character are you most like? brought to you by QuizillaHuh? I'm so very not a leader and although I may get defensive and angry when someone disagrees rudely, I'm not a conflict person. I run awaaaaaaaaaaaaay and hide. There's lots of things that I'm sure would be betetr if I actualyl told the people invovled, but that would lead to an argument, and telling people I'm not happy with what they're doing scares me. I'd rather put up and shut up. But on the favourite film list, they had what I think is mine- Top Gun!! Hee!! | | 12:44 pm |
Well.... Rome update tomorrow, as I've not gotten around to it today. But I am picking up my photos this afternoon so yay :D
And my last (I think) wisdom tooth is making a second bid for the surface :( *ouch* | | Monday, May 26th, 2003 | | 4:17 pm |
I'm moving to Rome Well I'm thinking it'd be nice to, in the future. Only I might escape out in the summer, God there's lots of tourists!! You could go there and probably never have to speak Italian. Even though one of the shopkeepers recognized I was English and spoke to me in English, I spoke Italian back to him, the idiot. [madfire] Some of us have spent 9 months trying to learn the language, and put it into practice grrrrrrr. I heard lots of English though, from Americans and Australians too.
Anyway, Saturday morning I nipped online briefly, then went to my friend's flat to meet her. She's Italian, and her parents own her flat, and rent out the 2nd room to other students. That's how I met her, I was the second person to see it (there was one of the beds in the twin room for rent). But the first viewer had first refusal. Anyway, after a bit Claudia and I went to the station and got the train to her village, then walked up to her house which is lovely. The countryside we passed is fantastic, you can see the Gran Sasso (literally means "Big Rock", but it's famous in Italy) and I took some photos from the train, not sure how they'll turn out, a pole would suddenly woosh into view lol. When we got there, I met her parents again, and they're warm and friendly people :D
We caught up a little, and then Claudia and I drove to pick her little sister up from school, doing a little tour of the village in the process. Her sister gave me a hug, when we picked her up, it must have been cool having a foreigner come to collect you too.... remember the school days like that?
We went back home, and had lunch and wow.... her Mum had made gnocchi, and I thought that was all we were having, so had seconds. It was fantastic, and as I'd only had it twice (half a bag each time), of the stuff you buy in the supermarket (I wasn't impressed), it completely changed my mind. I was ready to drool, and we were sitting outside, in the shade eating, and the cats (a grey cat called Tommy and a cute tiny kitten called Cicio (sp?) were wandering around. I was so happy, I wanted to just bottle the feeling. It was wonderful. Then there was a meat (probably vitello which I think is veal, but I didn't ask) fried in a breadcrumb thing, and peas and mushrooms (but I only had peas, mushrooms are [sick]). And then ice cream.
One of Claudia's friends came over, and then he left, while me Claudia and her sister went for a drive, we went up to the abbey on the edge of the village, and her friend rejoined us. A coach party had just arrived [rolleyes]. I think we went inside first, and had a look around, and then we wandered around the outside of the abbey. I got photos of it, and the view from Claudia's garden, when we got back.
After the abbey, we drove up to the communal stadium (well sports ground to us, but that's what they call it, lo stadio comunale), as her Dad was playing in the football match. We had a drive around a few places, then headed home. We relaxed for a bit, and watched tV and two of Claudia's cousins came over. After a bit, we got ready and then we all went (bar Claudia's Mum, who had to have a shower etc, we all went first) to the birthday party of one of Claudia's cousins. I kept meeting uncles and aunts left right and centre it seemed, and so I asked Claudia how many there were. Her Dad has 4 siblings. Tha explains a little then, I must have asked after meeting them all. The Italians seem to be very hospitable people, and welcoming. Your told to help yourself to the food, and it's very family orientated, or at least that's how it seemed to me. Claudia's Mum turned up, and after a while, Claudia and I left to meet some of her friends, and we all drove to a village (shit the name was.... Cocorro? No, P something... damnit, I'll find out later). It was the village party, and there were a few swing rides etc, a little square marked out for dancing, food stands, and stands selling toys etc (fair tack, the stuff that tends to not last long). Then we made out way back to Cla's village, and got ice cream (this is midnight now...) and sat on a wall by the abbey. I wasn't saying a lot, cos they all knew each other for one, and honestly, I was thinking more "Come on, can we get home now?" I was a bit tired, bored and needing of the loo. And when I'm bored, it can show.... I said to Cla the enxt morning, sorry, if I'd seemed rude. Afterwards I always tell myself I could've been more interested in what went on etc, but at the time, it's hard, you know?
I'll post about Rome tomorrow, I'm still catching up on WD (well 'remind me!'ing posts to go back to tomorrow).
Sometimes I really love Italy *sigh*
