6:33p Stuff What I Did Today.
Today has been bad and good in equal measure, so far.
- I walked to work in the rain. By which I mean TORRENTIAL, BOUNCING RAIN. Which got worse 5 minutes before I actually got to work. Which meant that I walked around all morning with wet trousers and wet socks and wet shoes. WTF, WEATHER?!
- I bought dry socks at lunchtime. Oh the heaven!
- I scanned in and stamped loads of shiny new junior books, including about 7 Goosebumps books and a copy of one of my all-time favourite books - The Giver by Lois Lowry. No I didn't buy that purely so I can encourage as many people as I can to read it, whatever makes you think that?
- I chucked out a load of old books from the spinny stand where we keep the early/young reader books, because there is always too much Old Junk in there.
- I sent a bunch of duplicates to My Mate Mike at another library, because they don't have much junior stock. And we do NOT need three copies of "It Moved!" by Anne bloody Fine.
- I ordered new things, including some High School Musical stuff (blech) and some actual quality stuff.
- While I was scanning the new stuff, I came across this. Underneath the sex, it's supposedly a very nice, slightly sad story, but still, it REALLY isn't suitable for kids. So I sent it back to HQ with a polite note asking if it could be reclassified as adult.
- It's the first day of my week as a Team Read coach! I have answered my first question (all about dog stories, right up my street) but the moderators haven't yet added my reply to the site. (They sleep?!)
- I almost got run over on the way home, because some Batshit Insane woman decided to come around the roundabout at about 40mph (No I am not even exaggerating). She was not even in sight when I started crossing, but by the time I was almost over, I felt the rush of air from her car. And she had the cheek to blast her horn at me! Bitch.
Finally, I have played too much Sims and I am going to bed. Night, y'all! xxx

8:27p If I Had Known The Pain
*Hee. I typed "Coors". I'm just obsessed with alcohol.
Bloody wasted. And a bit manic and light-headed too, I fear. Not that there was any time to relax as all the customer diskettes came in and a truckload of month-end data was released so I was running reports like buggery. Some of which came off OK, some of which will have to be re-run tomorrow as they're still not all there. Groan.
I was feeling very nostalgic today for my Pasdar experience at Collectormania Manchester last year. One of my LJ users posted an interview with him in which he looked distinctly uncomfortable and shy-seeming and I'd commented on how he'd been a bit shy with me at the autograph table (and less so in the photo booth, hee), and she'd wanted to know all about what he'd said and done when I met him (she's met him several times and is on hugging terms with him because of all the support she's given to him for his play Atlanta and the Heroes actors and writers during the strike and whatnot), so I linked her to my blurty entry about it and then read it myself. Several times. That was such a brilliant weekend...
Mum called me this evening to slag off the ending of Doctor Who (she only saw the last fifteen minutes properly so is not really in a position to have seen all the good stuff). Dad was protesting that he loved every minute. It's funny when my parents are being geeky. As for me, I'm philosophical about it now. I love my fandoms for the way they can rip me to bits sometimes, but it's also a relief when I can step back, wipe my eyes, blow my nose and remember it's just a show. (And of course it helps to remind myself that to get too involved is to end up drunkenly PMing The Pasdar's YouTube account. NEVER AGAIN. Oh, the shame.) It's a little hard to remember this philosophy when it's Buffy Season 7, mind you. [wink] Although even that has its (very good) moments, so I'm just grateful to have so much good Tee Vee. Verily, it is a light to me in dark places when all other lights go out. [/nerd] And apparently Heroes S3 is going to air at the same time in the UK as it will in the US! AWESOME. Not so my Supernatural and House crack though, I'm guessing. Oh, I am such a junkie.
Speaking of Tee Vee, a little something for all you Hellboy II fans who may not have seen it elsewhere... Hellboy gets himself on some popular US shows . "Booyah!" Bweeheehee.
And now to go to bed and read Pterry's Making Money, which is finally out in paperback. YAY!

8:50a all weekends should be four-day weekends
I didn't do a lot of sleeping in on my mini-vacation (the latest I got up was 7:30), but I had a wonderful time none-the-less.
Thursday was primarily spent prepping for Friday - buying too many groceries & cleaning out the patio (which included repotting three plants.) My patio looked gorgeous for at least 10 minutes until a decent breeze dumped a pile of leaves from the tree that hangs over my wall. Oh well, at least I had those 10 minutes of gloating ;-).
The family & one of my knitting friends (and her husband) spent the day with me on the 4th. Melanie & Steve arrived before the family & we walked down to watch the parade. It was a bit of a disappointment this year - Tyson the skating bulldog wasn't participating. I originally assumed it was becauase he was involved in The Greatest American Dog competition, but when I went to that website, I found that the skateboarding bulldog that's been in the promos is apparently named Tillman. Since Tillman is only 3 and Tyson's been skateboarding at least three years, I proclaim foul! Tillman has stolen Tyson's shtick. I may have to boycott The Greatest American Dog now (whereas before, I was simply planning on shunning it ;-).
Oh, back to the weekend recap: the family arrived after the parade & we had a great day & barbecue. Malina ended up crashing about 8pm & the parents left around then, so since Gil & Mike stayed at my place, it was just Melanie, Steve & I who went down to the beach to watch the fireworks, which were spectacular. When we got back, Gil & Mike informed us that they'd watched the fireworks from my front porch & had had a great view. Good to know for future reference ;-).
Saturday was a nice quiet day - the knitters came & helped me make a dent into the massive amounts of leftovers from the day before (which I also had for dinner after they left.) I got lots of knitting down - I did work on almost all my projects, so I felt quite virtuous & industrious. Then Sunday, after walking on the beach in the morning with Mom, I relaxed a bit before heading up to North Hollywood to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the advent of Annika, which was a wonderful way to end the long weekend :-).

9:00p Just When Everything Had Fallen To The Ground
Re: Doctor Who S04E13.
Well. Blimey. I don't know whether that was brilliant, amazing or a really terrible thing to do. Possibly all of those.
Now to find some tissues. *honk*

4:10p Doctor Who 4x12 - The Stolen Kerjigger Review Post
So, in order to keep my anxiety about tonight somewhat at bay, I decided to focus my excess nervous energy on writing a 2800 word review of The Stolen Kerjigger. I realise most everything's been said about it at this point, but here be my thoughts about it for posterity, anyway.
Underneath the cuts, there be spoilers for DW 4x12 - The Stolen Kerjigger. No spoilers beyond that (and please let's keep it that way - I do NOT want to know what happens tonight in advance), no speculation, just many words of love.
( Thoughts on storytelling and continuity, and praise of how well it's done here )
( Thoughts on characters )
( The LOLs )
( Things that make me love this episode more )
Finally, have some words from butterfly over on LJ on why she loves the Doctor and Rose so much (which is exactly why I love them so much, too). Please note that the link has spoilers up to 4x12 and contains the episode titles of 4x12 & 4x13, but there are no spoilers for 4x13.
My favourite part is this, because I firmly believe the same thing: ( Not a spoiler )
How many hours to go?

6:37a Voodoo Child
You may have seen this news story around. A couple of nights ago, I dreamed that I was pregnant.
DIGRESSION ALERT: I would have written about it yesterday, but I was busy. Sorry.
I was, for some purpose that was never made clear, in a ski resort. I was quite heavily with child, and I was being helped around the place by one of my students (I don't think she was the mother, though - I got the impression I was going to become a single parent). It was, in short, ever so odd.
In other news, my goddaughter turned ten yesterday. How was that allowed to happen?!
current mood: confused current music: none
