I might have posted this before. I don't remember!
When I was 16, I once dyed my hair very dark brown. Except, I left the dye on too long and my hair came out black. In addition, I always wore rather pale foundation and powder (because I thought it matched my skin best) along with dark lipstick. I didn't think there was anything weird or wrong with that.
Two years later, I started college. I started dating a guy who had graduated from my school a year ahead of me. He met up with some of his high school friends and told them about his new girlfriend. One of them was like, "Is she that girl who looked like a vampire?"
He said, "Yeah, that's her. But she looks different now because her hair's lighter and her skin's a little darker."
When he told me about the conversation, I was highly insulted. LIKE A VAMPIRE? Disgusting! I mean, I never knew I was that ugly and gross! It really hurt my feelings.
My boyfriend tried to tell me that someone thinking I looked like a vampire wasn't an insult. I never believed him.

Everyone's packing. I'm packing, too! Just for something different. :-(
We leave for Kona on Saturday morning and will come home the following Sunday. While we're gone, we will golf (I'll do a maximum of 9 holes each at a maximum of two courses), go to a luau, snorkel (even though I'm not a big fan of snorkeling), hike in the rain forest and to the lave flow, parasail (unless I chicken out), and other... stuff that I don't know about yet!
I'm looking forward to it even though I'm stressed about leaving work with all the month-end paperwork up in the air for someone else to take care of, missing a week of writing while I'm enrolled in a writing class, and all the bloody money we're inevitably going to spend.
Ah, well. I'm trying not to think of those things. And the writing thing might work out anyway. I'm going to try going back to my roots (ha!) and see how writing by hand feels. I haven't done it since spring of aught-five. The only things I hand write these days are notes planning for scenes, not the actual scenes themselves.
So, yeah, I'm going to try it again. I want to see if I can get in an hour or more a day (maybe much more on some days) with writing scenes by hand. If it ends up being cool and effective, I might have to start up a new routine when I get home where I actually leave the house for a while on writing days to keep from using the computer. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself with all of this. I'm just looking forward to seeing how it will all work out!
